About 70% of the population gets random muscle twitches. The medical term for this is fasciculation—spontaneous involuntary muscle contraction and relaxation. This could happen to your eyelid, arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, or tongue.

There is even a medical condition called benign fasciculation syndrome. I believe this condition is really a nutritional deficiency. But, the typical treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy, anti-depression medication, and calcium channel blockers.

In my opinion, random muscle twitches are caused by a magnesium deficiency. About 70% of the population also has a magnesium deficiency. Leafy greens are rich in magnesium.

Other symptoms of a magnesium deficiency:
• Fatigue
• Muscle cramps
• Anxiety

Other potential causes of a muscle twitch:
• High calcium
• Low vitamin D
• Alkalosis (potentially caused by a high carb diet or low potassium)

2:40 The benefits of cholesterol
3:23 How to bulletproof your immune system (free course)

In this video, we’re going to talk about the relationship between bile acids and cholesterol.

Bile acids are made by your liver and the friendly bacteria in your gut.

75% of your body’s cholesterol is made by your body. This means that only 25% comes from your diet.

Many people freak out over dietary cholesterol. However, your body is your primary source of cholesterol.

Bile acids are the primary pathway for cholesterol catabolism. Catabolism is the breakdown of complex molecules into simple molecules. This allows your body to utilize cholesterol and turn it into things like vitamin D, cellular membranes, hormones, and even bile.

50% of your daily cholesterol turnover (the rate of being depleted and replaced) is controlled by your bile.

Bile salts also regulate your LDL to HDL ratio. In fact, bile can lower your LDL levels and increase your HDL levels.

If you lack bile on a low-carb or ketogenic diet, it may cause increased cholesterol levels.

The benefits of bile salts include:
• Regulating cholesterol
• Breaking down fat-soluble nutrients, including vitamins A, D, E, and K.
• Regulating essential fatty acids
• Promoting liver health
• Supporting healthy vision
• Regulating bruising

In this video, we’re going to talk about a condition called acanthosis nigricans.

This condition is characterized by symmetrical hyperpigmentation on the back of the neck, sides of the neck, armpits, and certain other places on the body. The affected areas often have a velvety texture.

Acanthosis nigricans is associated with diabetes, PCOS, Cushing’s syndrome, and metabolic disease. The majority of cases are considered idiopathic—meaning the cause is unknown.

What this condition is really caused by is an excessive amount of insulin—or hyperinsulinemia. This is often a byproduct of unmanaged insulin resistance.

On the web, you will find that the “causes” of increased insulin are related to:
• Tumors
• Carb malabsorption
• Pancreatic cancer
• PCOS
• Trans fats

What are they missing? They are missing the primary cause: eating too many carbs.

The best remedy for acanthosis nigricans is to lower your intake of carbohydrates.

Healthy keto and intermittent fasting are great ways to help get your insulin levels under control.

Give this remedy a try, and let me know how it works for you in the comments below.

Today, we’re going to dig into why exercise helps you live longer. Endurance running is in our genes. It’s a survival mechanism. Over time, our genes have adapted to anything that increases our survival. When you exercise, a lot of good things happen.

The leading cause of death is cardiovascular disease. So, anything done to improve cardiovascular health would help extend your life.

An interesting study actually compared people who did physical activity vs. inactivity. They found that the group that did physical activity decreased their mortality by 30-40%, adding an additional five years to their life.

Why exercise helps increase lifespan:
• Increased O2 (blood flow)
• Decreased inflammation
• Increased parasympathetics
• Decreased insulin resistance
• Increased growth hormone

It’s a common thought that Alzheimer’s is a problem in the brain that starts in the brain. But, there is some interesting data that suggests that Alzheimer’s may originate in the liver.

The liver helps clear out amyloid B plaques so that they don’t spread to other parts of the body. But, when the liver is compromised, it can have a hard time getting rid of that plaquing, which can then develop in the brain.

Symptoms may not arise for 20 years. People often wait until they notice symptoms before they do anything about the problem. So, I want to emphasize this important connection, especially for those who want to prevent Alzheimer’s.

It’s very important to take care of your liver to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. If you already have dementia, it’s important to immediately start supporting your liver.

Natural remedies to support the liver:
• Bile salts (tudca)
• Vitamin D
• Silymarin (milk thistle)
• Intermittent fasting

In this video, we’re going to talk about why eating nuts can deplete zinc.

I’ve talked a lot about why the anti-nutrient phytic acid in grains can deplete zinc. But did you know that nuts also contain phytic acid?

Anti-nutrient phytic acid binds to zinc, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, chromium, copper, and manganese. It also inhibits pepsin, amylase, and trypsin.

Based on a 100g serving of nuts, here is how much phytic acid is in each type of nut:
• Brazil nuts: 1719mg
• Almonds: 1400mg
• Walnuts: 982mg
• Peanuts: 952mg
• Hazelnuts: 648mg

You can reduce phytic acid by…
• Lowering your intake of phytic acid-rich foods (like grains and nuts)
• Support your microbiome
• Germinate your nuts
• Boil or pressure cook your nuts
• Eat nuts after your meal, not with it
• Include high-zinc foods in your diet

Red Meat Causing Cancer, Heart Disease, Stroke and Diabetes?

Recently, there was an interesting study that came out that analyzed five different meta-analyses, which are studies of studies. They looked at the data and concluded that adults should continue the current consumption of meat and processed meat. On the flip side, current guidelines say that you need to decrease your consumption of meat.

There is conflicting information. So, it’s time to dig deeper. When I started digging deeper into this topic, I found that most of the research is observational studies. This has to do with questionnaires where they rely on the person’s memory. I don’t believe these types of studies are very credible. There are no randomized controlled trials that I found that examine eating beef and disease.

It’s important when you hear different claims to look at both sides and find out if there’s any vested interest, and look at the quality of the study.

As far as consuming red meat, this may be one of those times where you can test it out for yourself and see how you feel after eating red meat. This way, you have first-hand knowledge to see if something works for you or not. However, I do believe that doing the Healthy Keto diet and Intermittent fasting is the way to go.

In this video, we’re going to talk about which food is highest in calcium.

Cheese is the food highest in calcium. In particular, parmesan cheese is the cheese highest in calcium.

You can also get calcium from leafy greens, nuts, and seeds.

If you have a prostate problem, high estrogen, or fibroids, you want to avoid cheese. This is because too much cheese can swell the prostate, cause difficulty urinating, and cause frequent trips to the bathroom at night.

The benefits of calcium include:
• Bone health
• Preventing muscle cramps
• Preventing blood clotting
• Supporting your cellular membranes

Without calcium, you can develop holes in your cell membranes and cause fragility. Calcium regulates the resealing mechanism in the cell membrane.

The problem is, if you have chronic inflammation, calcium can build up in your body’s tissues, including your joints, arteries, brain, and eyes.

When calcium builds up in certain areas in the body, it virtually always has to do with chronic inflammation, which overstimulates the healing mechanism that occurs.

It’s vital to address the inflammation in your body to avoid calcium build-up.

2:52 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

Today, I want to cover when the ketogenic diet started.

— In 500 B.C., epilepsy was treated (likely unknowingly) with ketones.

— In the late 1800s, a man named William Banting discovered that restricting carbohydrates could help you lose weight. He wrote a book in which he talked about restricting bread, sugar, and potatoes and eating meat, fish, vegetables, mutton, and kidneys. However, he did consume small amounts of biscuits, toast, fruit, and alcohol.

— In the 1920s, the ketogenic diet was used for epilepsy.

— In 1922, Dr. Fredrick Banting used insulin for diabetes. This allowed diabetics to control their insulin. Before insulin was used for diabetics, a low-carb diet was typically used. It was called the Allen diet, and it was created by Dr. Fredrick Allen. This diet restricted carbohydrates and put certain patients on a very restricted calorie diet.

— The introduction of insulin and diabetes medications lead to the low-carb diet becoming almost obsolete.

— Dr. Atkins promoted a low-carb diet.

— The low-carb diet is now the most popular diet in existence, helping millions of people.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do if you’re tired but can’t sleep.

Have you ever felt exhausted, but you can’t seem to fall asleep? If so, you’re in the right place. Try these 7 tips for falling asleep easier when you’re tired:

1. No water past 7 pm – Consuming water before bed can cause you to feel like you have to use the restroom, especially if you have insulin resistance or pre-diabetes.

2. Limit caffeine intake – One 8oz cup of coffee a day should be your limit. Excess caffeine can make it difficult to fall asleep.

3. Limit protein – Too much protein can act as a stimulant. Keep your protein consumption to 3 to 8 oz per meal.

4. Use up body energy – Having too much energy before bed can make it difficult to fall asleep. Try using up your energy by going on long walks, exercising, and doing physical work.

5. Catch the first circadian wave – Your first circadian wave is typically around 9:30 pm. Try to catch this wave to make falling to sleep easier.

6. Take a sleep aid before bed – Natural sleep aids can help you get to sleep faster when it comes time for bed. Calcium lactate is a great natural supplement that can help with sleep.

7. Keep your room on the colder side – A warm body temperate may keep you up at night. People tend to sleep better in a slightly cool environment.

Today we’re going to talk about fasting and belly fat. If you have the correct pattern of intermittent fasting, you can tap into your visceral (belly) fat.

A recent study done on mice indicated that intermittent fasting could slow down weight loss and create a resistance to losing weight.

This conflicts with other studies that show that intermittent fasting can help with weight loss. One study indicates that a person can lose their visceral fat by 4-7% by doing one meal a day.

When we have conflicting information, it’s time to dig deeper. With the first study, they did every other day fasting. This is where you would fast for one day, go back to your regular eating plan the next day, then fast again the day after that, and so on. They were also not doing the keto diet when they ate their meals.

This is a lot different than what I talk about, where you fast for a period of hours, then go on keto, and then fast for a period of hours, and so on. The key is staying on keto.

Two types of fasting that will slow your weight loss:
1. Every other day fasting
2. The 5:2 fasting pattern (5 days you eat what you want and for 2 days you eat 500 calories)

If you go on and off keto, it can cause the body to adapt and protect its fuel source, which is stored as body fat. If you want to correct your metabolism and target belly fat, the best way to do it is with a combination of keto and intermittent fasting.

Consultants are available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 10 pm EST. Saturday & Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm EST. USA Only.

Today we’re going to talk about how to measure the pH of your blood. Are you too acid or too alkaline? It’s possible to try to figure this out by looking at your symptoms. There is also a difficult test that can be performed. However, your bicarbonates are another indicator that you can look at to get a rough idea of what your pH is.

Bicarbonates are alkaline substances that help to buffer the pH and keep it at a certain level. You can measure bicarbonates by getting a basic metabolic panel or a comprehensive metabolic panel.

Conditions that could cause high bicarbonates:
• Severe prolonged vomiting or diarrhea
• COPD
• Cushing’s syndrome

High bicarbonates are an indication that your body may be too alkaline, and you need to acidify it. You can do this by taking apple cider vinegar or betaine hydrochloride, as well as correcting the root cause.

Conditions that could cause low bicarbonates:
• Addison’s disease
• Chronic diarrhea
• Diabetic ketoacidosis
• Kidney disease
• Aspirin overdose

Consultants are available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 10 pm EST. Saturday & Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm EST. USA Only.

If you have hypothyroidism, you may want to take cod liver oil. Here’s why.

The thyroid needs three main nutrients:
1. Vitamin A
2. Iodine
3. Selenium

Iodine makes up the thyroid molecule. When we talk about T4 or T3, we’re talking about the number of iodine molecules. Selenium is involved in an enzyme that allows the conversion from T4 to T3 (the active form of the thyroid hormone).

Vitamin A is involved in another hormone called thyroid-stimulating hormone, which is created from the pituitary and sent down to the thyroid. One way they diagnose a hypothyroid case is if the thyroid-stimulating hormone has increased. If you have a vitamin A deficiency, you likely have an increase in thyroid-stimulating hormone. This could increase the size of the thyroid and decrease the absorption of iodine.

I believe the best source of the active form of vitamin A (retinol) is cod liver oil.

Other foods high in vitamin A are:
• Liver
• Butter
• Egg
• Fatty fish
• Cheese

In this video, we’re going to talk about constipation and fiber.

Constipation is not just a symptom of a lack of fiber. Constipation is the result of incomplete digestion anywhere in the digestion tract.

This could be due to a lack of:
• Stomach acid – Which breaks down protein
• Bile – Which breaks down fats
• Enzymes – Which breaks down all nutrients
• Gut microbes – Which breaks down fiber and other nutrients

If you have constipation, it could be that you need more stomach acidity, bile, enzymes, or probiotics.

16% of Americans have constipation, and 30% of adults over 60 have constipation.

It’s important to look at the entire digestive process if you have constipation. The answer usually isn’t as simple as adding more fiber. You have to look at your digestion as a whole.

Constipation causes and solutions:
• Antibiotics – Probiotics
• Antacids – Re-acidify the stomach with ACV or betaine hydrochloride
• Medications – Talk with your doctor about alternatives
• Processed foods – Consume raw foods with more enzymes
• Low fiber – More vegetables
• Low electrolytes – More vegetables
• High carbs – Keto and benfotiamine
• Overeating – Intermittent fasting
• Stress – Lower your stress levels with nutrition and relaxation

In general, these things are great for supporting digestion:
• Fermented foods
• Vegetables
• Increasing fat intake
• Lower your carbs
• Intermittent fasting
