Many times, someone will want to get rid of a fever as soon as possible. But, this is a big mistake. The normal temperature of the body is between 97.8-99 degrees Fahrenheit or 36.5-37.2 Celcius. These temperatures can vary slightly. Babies and children generally have a higher temperature. As we age, we run cooler.

The purpose of a fever is to fight pathogens and to help you decrease the duration of the infection. If you instantly try to break a fever, you could end up with the infection for longer than you should. A fever also helps mobilize and increase your white blood cells.

There are many natural things you can do to help speed up the cycle of an infection, such as:
1.Taking the right nutrients
• Calcium lactate, especially for kids
• Trace minerals

2. Fasting

When to call a doctor:
• 0-3 months — 100.4 F
• 3 months-3 years — 102.2 F
• 4-18 years — 104 F
• 18+ — 105 F

Generally, if the fever is lower, you may want to consider doing things to strengthen the immune system rather than automatically trying to turn off the fever with medications.

A few interesting points about body temperature:
1. When a person is lying, the temperature of their forehead, eyes, and neck may go up. But, the temperature of their nose may go down.

2. Consuming red hot chili peppers may cause your body temperature to go up. Peppers are also loaded with vitamin C.

3. People tend to sleep better in a colder room.

4. When you smoke, you may increase your temperature. (I don’t recommend smoking)

5. When you get a fever, you may want to enhance the fever by staying hot.

How to Make Up the Damage from Eating Refined Carbs

4:14 How to bulletproof your immune system

In this video, we’re going to talk about how to make up the damage from eating refined carbohydrates. I’m talking about things like bread, pasta, cereal, biscuits, waffles, pancakes, crackers, etc.

The first question is, what damage do these carb-rich foods cause? When you consume refined carbs, you cram a tremendous amount of fuel into the mitochondria. This makes them overloaded with electrons.

At the same time, because we’re talking about refined carbs (as opposed to natural vegetable carbs), you don’t get the benefits of antioxidants and nutrients that should be there to protect against oxidation and free-radicle damage.

Since the mitochondria can’t utilize these refined carbs, many oxidative byproducts and free radicles are produced. This is what causes damage in your body after having carbs. In turn, you will experience microvascular inflammation, which affects the retinas, kidneys, heart, and entire vascular and nervous systems.

How can you make up this damage? Antioxidants are the key to reducing damage due to consuming refined carbs.

Plants are the richest source of antioxidants. Seafood, organ meats, and nutrients such as selenium, vitamin E, vitamin C, and coenzyme Q10 are also great sources of powerful antioxidants.

Do not get your antioxidants from synthetic sources. Also, avoid omega-6 fatty acids, grains, ice cream, chips, and animal products that were fed grains.

In summary, if you have refined carbs, make sure you also have plenty of antioxidant-rich foods to counteract some of the effects.

Today we’re going to talk about depression and the HPA axis.

H – Hypothalamus
P – Pituitary
A – Adrenals

There is a feedback loop of communication between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and the adrenals. This communication turns certain hormones on and off. If cortisol (a stress hormone) is constantly stimulated and turned on by chronic stress, it could lead to burnout.

Cortisol can affect the hippocampus in the brain, which involves memory and learning. High levels of cortisol over time can potentially shrink the hippocampus affecting your memory.

If the sympathetic nervous system and the fight or flight mechanism are overstimulated over time, it can cause someone to experience anxiety and then depression. On the flip side, if the parasympathetic nervous system is dysregulated, it can cause someone to develop depression.

Potential remedies for depression from chronic stress:
1. Reduce stress
2. Magnesium
3. Fasting (combine this with ketones)
4. Aerobic exercise
5. Vitamin D
6. Rhodiola
7. Get plenty of sleep
8. Vitamin B1 (from nutritional yeast)

In this video, we’re going to talk about why once you start eating carbs, you can’t stop.

If you’re someone who wants to start keto, but you just can’t seem to cut out the carbohydrates, this video is for you.

Carbohydrates are highly addictive. We are conditioned as children to feed a carb addiction—most children consume large amounts of sugar daily. Sugars and refined grains are added to baby food, cereal, candy, and virtually all processed foods.

Carbs are so addictive because they trigger two hormones: dopamine and serotonin. These are pleasure and happiness hormones.

Over time, an addiction to carbs becomes stronger and stronger.

So what can you do to break a carb addiction? Take a look.

#1. Stop eating immediately – The first thing you should do is start fasting. This will kick start ketosis, which is when your body burns fat as fuel instead of glucose (sugar). This will begin to heal your neurotransmitter receptors that are triggering intense carb cravings.

#2. Exercise – This will further increase your fat-burning and allow you to get rid of any excess glucose in your system.

#3. Avoid triggers – Get rid of all carbohydrates and sugars in the house, avoid images of food (like commercials or unhealthy recipe books), don’t go to restaurants with unhealthy foods, avoid food smells that cause cravings, etc.

#4. Take B vitamins – All B vitamins are important for lessening the addiction to carbs—especially vitamin B1. Using nutritional yeast is a great way to get your B vitamins.

Your Liver Does NOT Store Toxins

1:11 How cruciferous vegetables help with detoxification
1:37 How to bulletproof your immune system

In this video, we’re going to talk about your liver. Many people think that the liver stores toxins—your liver does NOT store toxins.

The liver works by filtering out toxins—but it does not store them. Instead, it converts toxins into non-toxic particles. This is a process called biotransformation.

Many toxins are fat-soluble. Through the liver’s phase 1 and phase 2 detoxification mechanisms, your body converts fat-soluble toxins into water-soluble toxins.

Rather than store these neutralized toxins, your body gets rid of them through your urine and feces.

So when you come into contact with drugs, alcohol, poisons, pesticides, etc., your liver neutralized them first and then pushes them out of your body.

Cruciferous vegetables actually help support the liver’s natural phase 1 and phase 2 detoxification stages by stimulating enzymes. Other types of vegetables do not have the same effect.

The liver does store nutrients, including vitamins B12, A, D, E, and K, along with iron, copper, and folic acid.

• Starting to get into ketosis
• Fewer cravings
• More energy
• Improved mood
• Improved cognitive function

Stage 3: 24-36 hours

• Decreased appetite
• Decreased ghrelin
• Increased BDNF (new brain cells)

Stage 4: 36-48 hours
• Autophagy
• Kill cancer cells
• Decreased oxidative stress
• Decreased misfolded proteins
• Increased memory

Stage 5: 48-60 hours
• Insulin sensitivity super boost
• More autophagy
• Less inflammation
• Atrophy healing
• Protein sparing

Stage 6: 60-72 hours
• Immune system regeneration
• Spike in immune stem cells
• A 2014 study demonstrated that a 72 hour fast led to a complete rejuvenation of the immune system, and people on chemotherapy had less damage

In this video, we’re going to talk about what you need to know if you have high cholesterol on keto. The American Heart Association guidelines actually state that “total cholesterol is not significantly associated with heart disease.” Your body makes cholesterol to make hormones, cell membranes, bile, and vitamin D.

Total cholesterol is really LDL, HDL, and triglycerides combined. Whenever a person gets a cholesterol test, they may also want to get an advanced lipid profile. This is an advanced test that measures the two different types of LDL.

The two types of LDL are large buoyant and small dense (sdLDL-C). The type of cholesterol that can be dangerous is the small dense (sdLDL-C). The small dense type may be a better marker for predicting future potential heart problems and a better indicator of inflammation inside of the arteries. The small dense type of LDL comes from a high-carb diet.

By doing the healthy version of keto, you can get into ketosis and start burning fat. There will be certain times where your cholesterol goes up and down. But, as long as you keep your carbs low, you’ll get more of the large buoyant LDL and not the small dense type.

A few potential causes of inflammation in the arteries:
• Seed oils
• Glucose
• Smoking
• Junk food
• Low vitamin E

Still having cravings on keto? This could be why.

Timestamps

0:28 Causes of cravings on keto
8:53 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

Today we’re going to talk about why you might still be having cravings on keto. Normally it takes about three days to convert from sugar to fat burning if your carbs are really low.

If you do keto and your carbs are high, it could take more time to transition into fat burning. The lower the carbs, the faster you’re going to get into ketosis or fat-burning. A good indicator that you’re in ketosis is that your cravings and hunger have gone away.

A few causes of cravings on keto:
1. Your carbs are too high (you should consume 30g-50g of carbs per day)
2. You’re not doing fasting (consume 2 meals close together a day)
3. You’re snacking between meals
4. You’re consuming too much protein
5. You’re eating too late (try to have your last meal at 6 pm-7 pm)
6. You’re eating too much
7. You’re stressed
8. You’re not sleeping
9. You’re eating too many keto desserts
10. You’re consuming hidden sugars

In this video, we’re going to talk about how to lower your cholesterol on keto.

The fat cell is made up of triglycerides (which is used a fuel) and cholesterol (which can’t be used a fuel).

If you have excess cholesterol, your body breaks it down with bile and dissolves it with an enzyme called lipase.

If your cholesterol increases, it could be that your body is having a difficult time processing excess cholesterol due to liver damage.

Fatty liver, scar tissue, inflammation, endotoxins can all cause liver problems.

Not having a gallbladder can also cause high levels of cholesterol.

Here’s what you can do to help normalize your cholesterol levels:
1. Consume plenty of vegetables (at least 7 cups per day)
2. Take bile salts
3. Use choline
4. Take niacin (vitamin B3)

As you adapt to a healthy keto diet, your cholesterol will naturally normalize on its own. Keto helps decrease liver fat, increase liver function, and increase bile production. So if you’re not already on keto, check out some of my other videos to get started.

Refeeding Symptoms After a Fast

2:22 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

Today I want to cover the potential refeeding symptoms after a fast and how to avoid them. If you’re doing intermittent fasting, where you’re eating 1-2 meals a day, you don’t have to worry about refeeding. This video is for the person who does a 36-72+ hour fast.

The longer a person fasts, the less they need:
• Hydrochloric acid
• Bile
• Enzymes

When a person consumes a large meal after a long fast, they could experience different refeeding symptoms, such as:
• Arthritis
• Nausea
• Bloating
• Fatigue
• Diarrhea
• Gas
• Stomach pain

After a prolonged fast, to help prevent these symptoms, you would want to consume a small meal. Try small amounts of these foods:
• Cooked or steamed vegetables
• A leafy green salad with olive oil
• Berries
• Fermented vegetables
• Protein (eggs, chicken, or fish—3oz.)

After this small meal, you’ll start to produce more hydrochloric acid, bile, and enzymes. Now, your meals can gradually get slightly bigger and bigger.

What to avoid when refeeding:
• Red meat
• Large meals
• High-fat meals
• Too much nut butter

In this video, we’re going to talk about the best foods that can potentially help you avoid a miscarriage.

Keep in mind that there are no studies on this. Research on prenatal vitamins shows that they do not prevent a miscarriage. I believe the reason for this is because if your diet isn’t correct going into a pregnancy, synthetic vitamins aren’t enough to restore nutritional balance.

It’s important to prepare your body ahead of time with nutritional foods.

80% of miscarriages happen in the first trimester. The cause of a miscarriage can be due to genetics or epigenetics. Epigenetics can be influenced by nutrients, stress levels, and other lifestyle factors.

Other potential causes of a miscarriage include:
• Ectopic pregnancy
• Infection
• Chronic health issues (like diabetes, autoimmune disease, or high blood pressure)
• Fibroids
• Smoking
• Alcohol
• Drugs
• High caffeine
• Seizures
• Problems with the umbilical cord
• Mercury and other chemicals
• Pesticides

The best things you can do to potentially prevent a miscarriage include:
• Cut out carbs (go keto)
• Lower your diary
• Go organic
• Increase healthy fats
• Consume lots of leafy greens

Instead of taking a synthetic vitamin prenatal, make sure you take a natural food-based prenatal.

Here are ways you can get different nutrients:
• Folic acid: dark leafy greens
• Vitamin D: Sunlight, cod liver oil
• Vitamin C: Vegetables
• Vitamin E: Seeds, nuts
• Omega 3s: Fatty fish
• Trace minerals: Seafood
• Vitamin B3: Turkey, tuna
• Amino acids: Eggs, fish
• Fats: Grass-fed butter, olives, olive oil, cod liver oil

After a COVID infection, some people experience residual symptoms, such as:
• Brain fog
• Lessened cognitive function
• Lowered mood (anxiety or depression)

COVID-19 may affect these symptoms more than other viruses, and it’s not related to severity. The symptoms aren’t actually coming from the virus, but from the inflammation from your own immune reaction.

Potential remedies for brain fog:
1. Get more sleep
2. Get regular exercise
3. Avoid junk food and sugar
4. Take vitamin D (at least 10,000 IUs)
5. Take cod liver oil
6. Get more sun
7. Do fasting
8. Take lion’s mane (mushroom)

Why Do Stones Develop In Your Kidney and Gallbladder?

Kidney Stones:

Calcium Carbonate:

Timestamps
0:00 Gallstones vs. kidney stones
0:11 Kidney stones
2:25 Gallstones
4:58 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

Today I want to cover the difference between a gallstone and a kidney stone and how they develop to begin with.

The most common type of kidney stone is the calcium oxalate stone. The urine is becoming super concentrated, and the oxalates are forming with the calcium. Certain foods, even keto-friendly foods, are high in oxalates.

Foods high in oxalates:
• Spinach
• Almonds
• Black tea
• Beets
• Beet tops
• Chocolate

How to help minimize the risk of forming a calcium oxalate stone:
• Drink plenty of fluids (at least 2.5 liters of fluid every day)
• Potassium citrate (add lemon juice to your water)

Other types of kidney stones that are less common:
• Calcium phosphate
• Struvite
• Uric acid
• Cystine

Gallstones are completely different. They can be caused by a lack of bile. Over 80% of gallstones are cholesterol stones, which form because of supersaturated cholesterol. Typically, the cholesterol is supersaturated because of a lack of bile.

A few causes of a bile deficiency:
• Damage to the liver
• Low-fat diets
• High insulin
• High cortisol
• High estrogen

How to help minimize the risk of gallstones:
• Keep insulin in check
• Keep stress down (cortisol)
• Keep estrogen low
• Keep enough bile
• Take purified bile salts (if you’re at risk for getting gallstones or if you have liver damage)

20% of gallstones are calcium stones. Those are primarily related to taking calcium supplements, specifically calcium carbonate.

What could potentially happen if you completely stopped eating for seven days? In past videos, I’ve said that the most weight a person could lose in one week is about 2 pounds (0.9kg). But that’s if someone is eating throughout the week. So, what could happen if someone fasted for seven days?

If you start cutting carbs, you could start losing a lot of fluid. Initially, a person could easily lose 13 pounds (5.89kg) in one week. This depends on how much water weight you have.

One pound of fat is 3500 calories. An average person might burn roughly 2000 calories in a day. So, in theory, if everything goes perfectly, a person could lose 0.5-0.7 pounds per day while fasting. This would come out to just under 5 pounds (2.2kg) per week with fasting.

But, there are a lot of variables that can affect this, including:
• Exercise
• Stress
• Sleep
• Age
• Metabolism
• History of consuming a lot of carbs
• Health issues

When you start fasting, you can stimulate growth hormone. Growth hormone protects against the loss of protein. Typically, the body doesn’t use protein as fuel. It uses the fat fuel until that’s gone, then it uses muscle.

Let’s say someone is a bodybuilder, or they have a good amount of muscle on their body, and they’re exercising. But after they start the week fast, they don’t exercise. Potentially, their muscles could shrink because it’s the exercise that keeps the muscles stimulated and growing.

A good indicator to know if you’re fasting correctly is being able to exercise without feeling too weak and tired. If you’re fasting, but you don’t have any energy, and you can’t do intense exercise, you may need more electrolytes.

It’s also important to make sure you’re taking enough sea salt regardless of whether or not you’re eating. Green powder drinks, B vitamins (nutritional yeast), and trace minerals may also be beneficial while fasting.

Some people think they need to load up on carbs to spike insulin to help their muscles grow. But, insulin comes with a package. And, insulin is also triggered by protein. So, a better solution may be to have more protein instead of carbs. If you’re trying to lose weight, this isn’t a good idea. But if you’re trying to build muscle, it may be a better option.

In this video, we’re going to talk about a loss of smell and what you can do about it.

There are multiple types of loss of smell:
• Anosmia – Total loss of smell
• Dysosmia – Distorted sense of smell
• Hyposmia – Reduced ability to smell

The potential causes for a loss of smell include:
• Infections (especially covid-19)
• Injury
• Allergies

The key trace mineral that supports smell is zinc. If you have a zinc deficiency, you can lose your sense of smell. If zinc doesn’t help, what can you do?

Well, let’s talk about what’s involved in your sense of smell. The olfactory nerve or bulb is the brain tissue responsible for processing the sense of smell. You have around 10 million receptors in each sinus that communicate with the olfactory bulb and the brain.

If there is an injury to the olfactory bulb due to trauma, infection, or allergies, this can lead to problems with your smell.

The best nutrients to support the olfactory bulb are:
• Zinc
• Vitamin B1 (benfotiamine)
• Alpha-lipoic acid

Can You Get Fat on Too Much Protein?

1:39 Side effects of too much protein
3:45 How to bulletproof your immune system

In this video, we’re going to answer the question, can you get fat on too much protein?

When you consume protein, you trigger two hormones: insulin and glucagon. These are opposing hormones. While insulin stops fat burning, glucagon increases fat burning. This is why consuming too much protein does not cause you to put on fat on keto.

So if you’re replacing carbs with protein, you are most likely not going to put on more weight.

However, too much protein can…
• Slow down ketosis
• Cause sleepiness
• Cause bloating/constipation
• Lower sleep quality
• Cause indigestion
• Increase kidney or liver damage

Adding in intermittent fasting can help lower these side effects.
