Coronavirus Destroys Sense of Smell: Why?

There is an additional symptom of the coronavirus—the loss of smell. Why could this be happening?

4:33 Zinc is incredibly important

Today we’re going to talk about why the coronavirus causes the loss of smell.

Some coronavirus symptoms:
• Fever
• Tired
• Cough (dry)
• Shortness of breath
• Sore throat

Recently it has been found that there can be an additional symptom, and it’s the loss of smell. The medical name for a loss of smell is “anosmia.” You can also have a loss of taste.

What might cause this to happen?
There is a certain enzyme that’s involved in your perception of smell and taste. It’s called carbonic anhydrase 6. This essential enzyme for the sense of taste and smell is zinc-dependent. Big symptoms of a zinc deficiency are actually a loss of the sense of smell and a loss of the sense of taste.

I think the reason for the symptom of a loss of smell could be a zinc deficiency. When you go through an infection, especially in your lungs, you use up a lot of zinc. Zinc is not stored that well in the body. So, unless your constantly consuming zinc, chances are you’re going to be zinc deficiency. On top of that, with an infection, you could be even more zinc deficient.

Potential anosmia causes that could be connected to zinc:

• Upper respiratory infection
• Nasal polyp
• Idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism
• Hypothyroid
• Antibiotics
• Diabetes
• Cushing’s syndrome
• Cadmium poisoning
• Zinc deficiency
• Kallmann syndrome
• Primary ciliary dyskinesia

A loss of smell could potentially be because of a zinc deficiency. Taking zinc might not only help improve the sense of smell, but it also might help increase the strength of the immune system. Overall, zinc is a vitally important mineral.

In this short video, we’re going to talk about caffeine and hair growth. I’m not saying you should go and pour some coffee over your head. But, there is some research on the effects of caffeine for hair growth.

Interesting effects of caffeine:

1. Stimulating hair follicle growth
2. Counters the suppressive action of DHT (DHT blocks and suppresses hair growth)
3. Stimulates faster hair growth

*There are caffeinated shampoos that may work as a hair loss shampoo.

One reason some older men and women experience hair loss is because of their free testosterone going down. A lot of other problems can accompany a low testosterone issue. But, in this situation, zinc can also be very beneficial. Zinc is important in helping to regulate testosterone.

6:44 How much zinc do you need?

Today we’re going to talk about zinc. I want to cover the key zinc deficiency causes and the things that can help increase your absorption of zinc. I believe zinc is probably one of the most important trace minerals. Over 2 billion people are at least somewhat deficient in zinc.

The big problem with zinc is that we don’t store zinc very well. So, unless you’re consuming it every day, you could end up having a zinc deficiency.

Zinc can affect:

• The reproductive organs
• Skin health
• The immune system

Here are a couple of things that can decrease the absorption of zinc:

• Too much calcium
• Too much iron
• Excessive amounts of copper
• Phytates (bran, rice, grains, corn)
• Cadmium
• Casein
• Gut damage
• A lot of tannins
• A lot of sulfites
• Infection
• Refined sugar
• Stress

Here are a couple of things that can increase the absorption of zinc:

• Strong stomach acid
• Enough protein
• Red meat
• Shellfish (especially oysters)
• Nuts/Seeds
• Cheese

The amount of zinc you should consider getting per day is 8-13 mg.

2:15 What can prevent zinc absorption?

In this video, we’re going to talk about zinc and your immune system. Zinc is probably one of the most important trace minerals because it does so many different things. But, one of the most important health benefits of zinc is that it can help support the immune system.

Zinc is involved in:
• Genes and making DNA
• Many different enzymes
• Protein synthesis
• Wound healing
• Heart health
• Joint health
• Insulin
• Thymus function
• Gonads

What can happen in relation to your immune system if you have a zinc deficiency:
• Thymic atrophy
• Decreased lymphocytes
• Defective white blood cell response
• Low recovery rate
• Increased duration of infections
• Increased inflammation
• Increased oxidative stress
• Decreased capacity to fight off infections
• Increased susceptibility to viruses and infections

Foods high in zinc:
• Oysters
• Red meat
• Seafood/fish
• Pumpkin seeds

If you want to take zinc supplements, I think a good choice is zinc bisglycinate chelate.

There are certain things that can prevent the absorption of zinc, such as:
• Phytates
• Oxalates
• Antacids
• Malabsorption (pre-existing gut damage or inflammation)

Cheryl’s Testimonial

Cheryl’s health issues began in 2013: Four years of lung infections with prolonged use of medications; Pre-diabetes, perhaps caused by the medications and solved by diet changes; Hashimoto’s; Severe nerve pain all over her body that doctors were never able to diagnose or treat. In 2019, Cheryl found out about Dr. Joe and signed up for a live-streamed teaching and meditation. After months of daily meditation practice, Cheryl has been able to start weaning herself off of some medications, and her symptoms are much more tolerable.

Today we’re going to talk about why the sperm count is downtrending. From 1973 to 2011, sperm count has crashed down by 60%.

A few potential causes of low sperm count and low sperm motility:

1. Phthalates (from plastics)
2. Estrogen (from body fat or chemicals in the environment)
3. Insulin resistance (high levels of insulin can lower testosterone)
4. Statins (testosterone is made from cholesterol)
5. GMO foods (glyphosate)
6. Soy (soy has been directly associated with low sperm count)

How Coronavirus Targets Your Lungs –

2:13 What’s missing with COVID-19

Today we’re going to talk about the relationship between the coronavirus and your lungs.

The word “corona” comes from the word “crown.” The coronavirus has small projections that look like a little crown—the little projections like lung tissue.

In certain cases, especially critical coronavirus cases, a person can develop a condition called ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome). This is a situation where you have severe hypoxia, which means you have a lack of oxygen.

Other symptoms are:
• Rapid breathing
• Dizziness
• Breathlessness
• Sweating

What’s missing with COVID-19 is two nutrients:

1. Vitamin D
2. Zinc

90% of patients with ARDS have very low vitamin D levels.
• Vitamin D is an immune modulator
• It can help greatly improve the immune system
• It’s a great anti-inflammatory

Zinc is one of the most important nutrients for your lungs.
• It can help reduce inflammation
• If you’re deficient in zinc, an infection can last longer
• If you’re deficient in zinc, you’re more susceptible to infections, viruses, and bacteria
• If you’re deficient in zinc, you don’t have the full capacity of your white blood cells (your army)

Hidden Cause of Depression and Anxiety

Not many people know about this interesting hidden cause of depression and anxiety. Find out more.

3:53 More on the brain and gut connection

In this video, we’re going to talk about a hidden cause of depression and anxiety. It has to do with your microbiome—the good bacteria in your gut.

There is actually a connection between your brain and your colon through what’s called the vagus nerve. But, what’s interesting about the vagus nerve is that only 10% of the information is going from the brain to the colon. 90% of the information is going from the colon to the brain. So, you’re getting a lot of feedback in your brain from things that are happening in your gut.

The microbiome (your good bacteria) makes a lot of neurotransmitters, which are identical to the ones that your own body makes.

Your microbiome makes:
• Acetylcholine
• GABA
• Norepinephrine
• Serotonin
• Dopamine

All of these neurotransmitters can help make you feel calm, stress-free, and happy. If there is a problem with your microbes making these neurotransmitters, you might not feel that great.

This part of the nervous system is a part of what’s called the parasympathetic, which is all about rest, digestion, and recovery. It’s possible that things like depression and anxiety can occur if your gut is not right.

Your good bacteria also eat fiber from vegetables, and they make small-chain fatty acids. This is a specific type of fat that can provide 90% of the energy for the colon cells. It can also help improve insulin resistance and supports the integrity of the gut lining. There is a huge connection between your state of well being and your digestion.

On the flip side, if you’re stressed, this can also affect your digestion.

The brain and gut connection also control:

• Enzyme release
• Acid production
• Hormone release
• The muscles around the colon

While recovering from surgeries and treatments, Shehana listened to Dr. Joe’s Walking Meditation #3, which includes breath work at the beginning. Doing the breath significantly reduced pain, and the use of pain medications.
