Of course, dietary sugar can raise your blood sugar, but something else can do it too. In fact, it’s pretty significant. It’s called gluconeogenesis.

Gluconeogenesis means that your body is generating new glucose from non-carbohydrate sources. Your body can make new sugar from fat or protein. High blood sugar is not just about dietary sugar. Your body makes sugar from other things.

The amount of sugar in your blood is significantly coming from gluconeogenesis. Diabetics have enhanced gluconeogenesis. So, your liver and your kidneys are making a lot of sugar, which raises your blood sugar.

It’s important to keep in mind that the body doesn’t need much sugar. There are very few parts of the body that are dependent on sugar. Everything else can live on other sources of fuel, like fatty acid and ketones.

The body has the ability to make the sugar that it needs. We don’t need to get sugar or carbohydrates from the diet. However, we do need dietary fiber, which is considered a carbohydrate.

If you’re a diabetic, your body is making too much sugar because insulin isn’t working correctly in your body. Even though there might be high levels of insulin in the blood, the insulin is dysfunctional because of insulin resistance. Insulin isn’t doing its job, which is to keep gluconeogenesis in check.

The real problem is insulin resistance. This is what’s causing the high levels of sugar in your blood. I believe the best thing to do would be to focus on fixing your insulin resistance. This could potentially help your body make less sugar and improve your blood sugar levels. In my opinion, the best way to improve insulin resistance is to do the Healthy Keto diet and intermittent fasting.

What if you’ve already started the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting, and you’re seeing improvements, but you still have high blood sugar? Your body is likely still in the process of dealing with your insulin resistance. It takes time to reverse insulin resistance. The key is to not give up, stay consistent, and know what’s really going on.

A study I read recently talked about how vitamin D levels could be linked to depressed teens. A few symptoms linked to a vitamin D deficiency are sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest, loss of concentration, and even thoughts of suicide.

Potential causes of a vitamin D deficiency in teens:
• Not getting enough sun
• Not consuming enough vegetables (not enough magnesium)
• Snacking (insulin resistance blocks vitamin D)
• A high carb diet (fructose blocks vitamin D)
• Obesity (increases the need for vitamin D)
• Darker skin blocks vitamin D absorption

Other symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency:
• Achy joints
• Low back pain
• Lethargy
• Insomnia
• Anxiety

Natural remedies:
• Vitamin D (10,000 IUs)
• Magnesium
• Vitamin K2

A few more things for teens to do:
• Get out in the sun
• Consume more vegetables
• Stop snacking (do intermittent fasting)
• Get on a low-carb diet (healthy keto)

Carbs and sugars: what’s the difference? Find out!

In this video, we’re going to talk about the difference between carbs and sugars.

On a Healthy Keto diet, you want to keep your carbs under 50g per day—preferably around 20g per day.

Carbohydrates are a combination of starches, fibers, and sugars.

Sugars are smaller carbohydrate molecules. For instance, sucrose is a disaccharide, which means that it is made up of two (di, meaning two) simple carbohydrate molecules.

Fructose and glucose are monosaccharides, which are made up of one (mono, meaning one) molecule.

Starches are complex carbohydrates.

Complex carbohydrates are broken down into two categories: oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. Oligosaccharides have between 3 and 20 molecules, and polysaccharides have more than 20 molecules.

Then, we have fiber. We deduct fiber from the total carbs because, even though fiber is a carbohydrate, it can’t be broken down by our digestive systems.

Microbes can break down fiber, so fiber is great for supplying your gut microbes with nutrients.

Fiber does not affect your blood sugars like other carbohydrates.

Let’s talk about the glycemic index (GI). The GI tells you how fast a particular carbohydrate turns into blood glucose and affects your blood sugar level.

For example, a raw potato would be relatively low on the GI because the starch isn’t going to break down very quickly. However, cooked potatoes or a bag of potato chips would be much higher on the glycemic index because they are broken down much more quickly, thus causing a spike in blood sugar.

The goal is to consume foods that are low in sugars and carbs but higher in fiber to help keep your blood sugar levels normal.

Some vegetables are very starchy, which means it is high in carbohydrates. Potatoes, carrots, and beats all have higher amounts of carbs compared to leafy greens, asparagus, celery, and broccoli. You don’t have to count your carbs when it comes to non-starchy vegetables.

In this video, we’re going to talk about an excellent natural remedy for inflamed eyelids.

Inflamed eyelids are known medically as blepharitis. This condition can cause your eyelids to become red, irritated, itchy, and crusty. Blepharitis typically appears at the ends of your eyelids, where your eyelashes grow.

The root of this problem is often an overgrowth of bacteria, fungus, or viruses.

The best natural remedy to help get rid of pathogens is colloidal silver. Colloidal silver has potent natural anti-pathogenic properties. It can help penetrate the eyelid, unlike other conventional solutions.

Not only is this an incredibly useful remedy, but there are not any known side effects. Using conventional antibiotics may have unnecessary side effects.

Give colloidal silver a try, and let me know how it works for you!

In this video, we’re going to talk about why fasting lowers your blood pressure.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is usually an asymptomatic condition. The only way to know for sure that you have high blood pressure is to test your blood pressure level with a blood pressure cuff.

There are two types of hypertension: primary and secondary. 95% of all hypertension cases are primary hypertension.

Primary hypertension is related to lifestyle choices. These are some of the things that may contribute to high blood pressure levels:
• High salt
• Obesity
• Smoking
• Alcohol

The problem is, many doctors recommend a diet that includes carbohydrates, such as fruits, whole grains, and simple sugars. In fact, their recommended diet allows 12 teaspoons (50g) of sugar per day. That’s a lot of sugar!

Keep in mind that I am not recommending that you go off your medication without your doctor’s approval. Instead, I want to show you the problems with what many consider a “healthy” diet for hypertension cases.

A study called the sprint trial was done in 2015. This study found that those who are 50 years or old who take medications live longer when taking multiple medications for hypertension.

This sounds pretty good—but, they also found a significant increase in kidney disease risk.

There are many problems with this study. They only used those with severe hypertension and

Another study on 174 people who were fasting found a 90% success rate of lowering blood pressure levels naturally.

Why?

When you fast, your insulin levels reduce. High blood pressure is really a result of high blood sugar. This is often caused by insulin resistance. When you lower your insulin levels, you can repair insulin resistance and help normalize your blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

The best natural remedies for high blood pressure are:
• Intermittent fasting
• Vitamin D3
• Potassium
• Vitamin K2
• Magnesium
• Healthy Keto

Today, we’re going to talk about how your liver could potentially cause stiffness in your body. If the liver isn’t working right, it may cause joint stiffness to the point where you feel like you have arthritis.

Cholestasis is a condition where your bile is backed up and not flowing freely through the bile ducts. There is a combination of too much cholesterol and not enough bile, causing the bile to back up, which then causes inflammation.

If there is a problem with the bile ducts, you can experience a lot of pain and stiffness, especially on the right side of the body.

If you don’t have enough bile, you also won’t be able to absorb and utilize vitamin D, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Other fat-soluble vitamins will also not be available to you, which can lead to pain, stiffness, and other issues.

The best potential remedies for stiffness:
• Purified bile salts (take 1-2 on an empty stomach in the morning and the afternoon)
• Get on the Healthy Keto diet
• Do intermittent fasting
• Eliminate omega-6 fatty acids from your diet

If you have osteoarthritis from an old injury that’s causing your stiffness, you may want to apply a technique called the Egoscue Method.

8:55 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

In this video, I’m going to go through what I typically eat on a given day. It’s really nothing too exciting because unlike many people I can eat the same thing every single day. Other people need variety, and that’s fine. This is just what I eat, but you can eat whatever you want as long as it’s keto-friendly.

Currently, I eat one and a half meals per day. I would normally eat one meal a day, but when if I do that, I tend to lose too much weight. I also have a more difficult time fitting all of the calories I need into one meal.

I have my first meal between 1-2 pm. I have my second meal between 5-6 pm. This gives me a fasting range between 19-21 hours.

Keto vs. Healthy keto:
Keto —
A low-carb diet that doesn’t focus on nutrition. There are benefits when you lower your carbs.

Healthy Keto —
A low-carb diet that factors in nutrient-dense foods. I think a Healthy Keto diet with intermittent fasting is the best way to go.

What Dr. Berg eats:
First meal — Mostly a combination of protein and fat with some vegetables (not too much)
A few different combinations I like:
• 4 eggs with onions and fermented vegetables (without sugar) or raw asparagus
• Grass-fed, grass-finished, fatty hamburger (.5Ib) and sauerkraut
• Organic summer sausage (8 oz.) with organic grass-fed Swiss cheese
• Salmon (8 oz.) fried with olive oil, topped with sea salt, black pepper, and mayo (Primal Kitchen) with olives on the side
• A handful of pecans after the meal (if unsatisfied)
• Celery and organic valencia salted peanut butter after the meal (if unsatisfied)
• Sugar-free chocolate occasionally after the meal (if unsatisfied)

Second meal — Primarily vegetables with a small amount of protein and fat.
A few different combinations I like:
• 8 cups of salad (arugula or greens mix from the farmer’s market, olive oil, balsamic vinaigrette, sea salt, and avocado or nuts)
• 3 1/2 cups of chopped white and red cabbage and carrots, topped with mayo (Primal Kitchen)
• 4 cups steamed cauliflower with butter, sea salt, and black pepper
Things I may add to my second meal:
• 1/2 can cod liver
• Summer sausage (4 oz.)
• Pecans
• Celery and organic valencia salted peanut butter

I fry my eggs in beef tallow, and I try to get my greens from the farmer’s market. If I buy greens from the store, they have to be organic. I also consume a lot of organic tomatoes from the farmer’s market or my garden when they’re in season.

In this video, we’re going to talk about smartphone addiction in teens, children, and adults.

In 2016, a study on 1240 parents found that…
• 50% of teens feel addicted to their smartphones
• 59% of parents believe their kids have a smartphone addiction
• 77% of parents feel their kids get distracted or lose focus when using a smartphone
• 72% of teens feel they need to respond to texts immediately
• 78% of teens check their devices at least hourly

It’s best to be fully invested in what you’re doing rather than constantly being distracted by your phone. This is why I try to only check my texts about two times a day.

Smartphone addictions are similar to drug addictions in that they influence the size and shape of certain parts of the brain—specifically in the parts of the brain that involve emotion, speech, hearing, sight, memory, and self-control.

Your phone emits EMFs, which can cause issues with your brain, heart, circadian rhythm, and fertility.

How can you avoid the effects of smartphone use?
1. Avoid contact with your brain/head
2. Don’t use your smartphone within 2-3 hours of your bedtime
3. Use an EMF protection case

In this video, I want to cover what PCOS is and what can cause PCOS.

Symptoms of PCOS:
• Infrequent or prolonged menstrual cycle
• Excess male hormones (androgens)
• Infertility
• Excess hair growth on the body
• Thinning hair on the head
• Acne
• Insulin resistance

Most websites will tell you that the potential causes of PCOS are genetic or maybe environmental. But, I think the missing piece that you need to know is that high androgens can be caused by high insulin. And high androgens may cause many of the symptoms of PCOS.

Unfortunately, insulin levels are rarely checked. You can’t really determine what’s going on with insulin by checking your blood sugar levels. You could actually have normal blood sugars and still have high levels of insulin.

If you’re not sure what causes high insulin, I have a lot of other videos on that topic. Watch those videos and start the Healthy Keto Diet and intermittent fasting.

In this video, we’re going to talk about COVID-19 and black fungus.

In certain countries, there have been more instances of having a black fungus infection after having COVID-19. The scientific name of this fungus is mucormycosis, and it grows in certain soils.

Steroid coronavirus treatments may increase the risk of fungal infections. Additionally, if you are a diabetic, this can increase the risk of fungal infections after covid.

Anything that compromises your immune system may increase your risk of a black fungus infection.

When you take a steroid, you are actually suppressing the immune system. In fact, the hormone cortisol turns off immune reactions. This is why cortisol is used for inflammatory conditions.

The symptoms of a black fungus infection include:
• Sinus infection
• Facial pain
• Congestion
• Eye pain
• Lung infection
• Respiratory problems
• Coughing

Although black fungus infections are rare, these symptoms typically appear 10-60 days after infection.

The best remedies for a black fungus infection include:
• Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (o2 inhibits fungal growth)
• Garlic and oregano oil
• Vitamin D and zinc
• Non-dairy probiotics
• Getting your blood sugars under control (keto and intermittent fasting)

In this video, we’re going to talk about a powerful mushroom that has the potential to help fight off cancer cells and strengthen your immune system. This mushroom is called the turkey tail mushroom.

The turkey tail mushroom has an interesting shape and color that looks like the tail of a turkey.

This mushroom contains at least 35 compounds that directly relate to improving your immune system and fighting cancer cells, including:

• Quercetin – This compound helps release interferon. Interferon is a potent immune chemical that interferes with the production of viruses. It also helps kill cancer cells.

• Balcaleim – This compound has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It also inhibits the spread of cancer cells, reduces the adhesion properties of tumors, and induces tumor cell cycle arrest.

• PSK/PSP – These are protein-bound carbohydrates that help increase monocytes, dendritic cells, macrophages, and immunity to toxins. These compounds are commonly used alongside chemotherapy in Japan and China.

Turkey tail mushrooms are potentially beneficial for fighting breast, blood, colon, lung, and stomach cancers.

If you are at risk for one of these forms of cancer, consider giving turkey tail mushrooms a try and let me know what you think in the comments below.

In this video, we’re going to talk about prescription drugs. 7 out of 10 people in the United States take prescription drugs. That’s 70% of the population!

The majority of those who are 45+ take four prescription drugs.

Now, you should know that I’m not against taking medications. You should never stop taking a medication without your doctor’s approval.

However, there are some side effects that come with taking virtually any medication—especially when you take multiple medications. This is why I believe everyone should be working with their doctor to address their health problems at the root.

Many times, there isn’t a long-term plan established by a patient and their doctor to come off of the prescription drug. If that sounds like you, here are some questions you should ask your doctor:

1. What is our long-term plan?

2. What is the actual cause of my symptoms?

3. Are you willing to help me get off my medications using dietary and lifestyle changes and natural alternatives?

Changing your diet can often completely change your health. Having a healthy diet and lifestyle may reduce your need for medications over time, with the help of your doctor.

Additionally, many natural alternatives can help remedy your symptoms without any side effects.

Tudca, milk thistle, and vitamin D may help you ween off of medications without additional side effects.

Ask your doctor the questions above and see if they can work with you to reduce your long-term medication use.

In this video, we’re going to talk about why you should add more mushrooms to your diet.

Many people consider mushrooms a vegetable, but it’s actually a type of fungi. Mushrooms are made up of 92% water, 4% carbs, 2% protein, and less than 1% fat.

One cup of mushrooms comes out to 2g carbs and 1g of fiber, making the net carbs 1g.

There are many benefits of having mushrooms in your diet:
• They break down plastics within weeks
• They have a closer biology to animals than plants
• They are rich in vitamins and minerals, including B2, B3, B5, B9, D, selenium, zinc, copper, and potassium.
• They contain B-glucans, which have anti-tumor properties

Fungus is an important part of your microbiome and acquired immune system.

Funguses can also break down nutrients in the soil, which allows plants and our bodies to absorb and utilize them more efficiently.

As you can see, mushrooms aren’t just keto-friendly; they are also very healthy.

Today we’re going to talk about what to do if you accidentally messed up on keto. Maybe you were served something you didn’t realize had a lot of sugar in it, or you accidentally bought something you didn’t realize wasn’t actually keto-friendly. What do you do?

In the brain, you can use either sugar or ketones as fuel. But, the brain will always prefer ketones over glucose. This means that all you have to do is elevate the ketones in your blood, so the brain can use them as fuel. This can help you start to feel better fast.

What you can do if you mess up on keto:
• Take liquid MCT oil
• Take powdered MCT oil
• Take exogenous ketones

In this video, we’re going to talk about which herbal teas to avoid during pregnancy. Some teas can contain compounds that have the potential to cause complications during pregnancy. Take a look.

1. Hibiscus tea – in excess, hibiscus tea can potentially lead to delayed puberty, cause a miscarriage, and stimulate mensuration.

2. Nettle tea – nettle tea can stimulate contractions of the uterus. This is not good for early pregnancy.

3. All caffeinated teas – black, green, white, matcha, and chai teas can increase your risk of early pregnancy miscarriages due to high levels of caffeine.

4. Fennel tea – fennel tea can increase your estrogen levels, which may lead to pregnancy complications.

5. Fenugreek tea – this tea can induce early labor.

6. Licorice tea – this tea can increase cortisol levels, which can throw off your normal balance.

If you’re not sure about a certain herbal tea, make sure you do your research and ask your doctor before you have it to help avoid potential pregnancy complications.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do when cutting your carbs doesn’t help you lose weight.

When you hit a plateau, I typically say you need to cut your carbs down and eat less frequently. But what do you do if that doesn’t work?

There are two situations that may cause you to stop losing weight even when you’re fasting and lowering your carbs. The first situation is when you’re not getting enough sleep, and the second is when you’re stressed out.

Not getting the right amount of quality sleep can stop weight loss because of a hormone called melatonin. Sleep produces melatonin, and melatonin inhibits insulin. So if you’re not getting enough sleep, you won’t have enough melatonin to keep your insulin levels under control.

High insulin causes your body to store sugar as fat. This is obviously not good for losing weight.

Exposure to blue light before bed and late-night snacking can lead to poor sleep.

Stress affects weight loss because of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol, also known as the stress hormone, releases glucose as a source of quick energy. In turn, this releases sugar into the body and causes high insulin.
