Today we’re going to talk about steroid drugs. To be more specific, we’re talking about corticosteroids. This is different than androgens and testosterone. This drug is mainly used for anything connected with inflammation.

The two main effects steroids have on the body:
1. Suppression of the entire immune system
• Your immune system is your army to fight off pathogens. Suppressing your entire immune system could be dangerous.

2. Suppression of inflammation
• Suppressing inflammation can be dangerous, especially for the healing process.

Taking steroids can increase your risk of having a cold turn into a severe pneumonia infection. Steroids may also increase the risk of getting TB. 25% of the population has a latent TB infection. This means the infection is inactive in the person’s body, but steroids can potentially turn the infection into an active form.

I believe steroids are a double-edged sword and should only be taken short-term and infrequently. When you stop taking steroids after chronic use, your adrenals have basically shut down, potentially leaving you with withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal symptoms can include:
• Osteoporosis
• Ulcers
• Severe infection
• Weight gain
• Diabetes
• Cataracts
• Skin problems

Alternatives to steroids:
1. Curcumin (200g)
2. Boswellia
3. Green tea
4. Vitamin D
5. Fasting
