Someone asked me why keto didn’t cure their diabetes. Here’s what happened.

Someone recently wanted to talk to me because she said that keto didn’t cure her diabetes like “I said” it would. I don’t remember ever using the word cure. But, I do believe that it will help fix a person’s blood sugars and help normalize a person’s A1C.

I asked her a few questions to find out what was going on. She said she was on the program for 6 weeks, and her blood sugars were normalized, and she even was able to get off of her medication. But then she went back to her normal diet, and her diabetes came back.

Here was the problem. With keto, about 5% of the calories should be carbs. With her diet (the average American diet), 65% of the calories are carbs. The current food pyramid recommends that 45-65% of your calories should be carbohydrates. That’s going from about 23g of carbs per day to 300g of carbs per day. That’s 13x more carbs than I believe a person should consume.

A normal blood sugar level should be about 80. This means that you should have no more than one teaspoon of sugar in your blood. I don’t believe the body is supposed to have the “normal” amount of carbohydrates.

The number of carbs a person has on the keto diet should be the “normal” amount. The keto diet should be the normal diet. The actual normal diet (that she was consuming) can potentially lead to diabetes.

We’re not trying to cure diseases with a certain treatment. We’re simply trying to bring people back to the real normal diet, which is the keto diet.

The keto diet is a normal way of eating to maintain your health and to help avoid potential complications of the “normal” American diet.

Which vitamin is the best support for healthy adrenal glands? Find out.

3:27 How to bulletproof your immune system

In this video, we’re going to talk about the most important vitamin for the adrenal glands.

The adrenal glands are very interesting because they have an outside (cortex) and an inside (medulla). The outside of the adrenals is all glandular tissue, and the inside is all neurological tissue. The neurological tissue in the adrenals is part of the fight-or-flight response, which is related to the sympathetic nervous system.

The purpose of the adrenal glands is to adapt your body to physical and mental stress.

Out of all of the vitamins and minerals, the adrenal gland has the highest concentration of vitamin C.

Vitamin C is crucial to the healthy function of the adrenal cortex and medulla.

Vitamin C is a co-factor or helper nutrient for catecholamines—which are the neurotransmitters inside the adrenals (like serotonin, dopamine, and adrenaline).

Vitamin C is also a co-factor for the steroid hormones outside of the gland (like cortisol, aldosterone, and androgens).

Additionally, vitamin C acts as an antioxidant in the adrenal glands.

The most common symptom of adrenal dysfunction and vitamin C deficiency are the same: fatigue.

As your stress increases (both physical and mental), so does the need for vitamin C.

Refined carbohydrates inhibit vitamin C utilization in the body.

The best sources of vitamin C are:
• Sauerkraut
• Bell peppers
• Leafy greens
• Berries
• Citrus

In nature, vitamin C always comes in a complex. It’s best to get your vitamin C from natural foods than supplements.

Today we’re going to talk about an interesting Turkish study that recently came out on faster recovery from COVID.

In the study, they used two different treatments with the end result of improving recovery by 3.5 days. They also found that it may help decrease the severity of the infection and inflammation and improve liver function.

Four main natural nutrients used:
1. Nicotinamide ribose (an alternative form of vitamin B3)
• It may increase NAD, which can increase the repair of the DNA in the mitochondria

2. L-serine (an amino acid)
• During stress, there is a huge demand for L-serine
• It supports the immune system
• It can help support the remodeling of lung tissues

3. NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine)
• It turns into L-glutathione (an important antioxidant for the liver)
• It can help repair damage from inflammation
• It can be good for chronic respiratory problems

4. L-carnitine L-tartrate
• It transports fatty acids to the mitochondria for energy
• It can help improve recovery after exercise and stress

Personally, I would also add vitamin D, zinc, and vitamin C.

It’s important to drink water when fasting. But, how much? Find out.

Today I’m going to cover how much water a person may want to consume while fasting. You would actually need more water while fasting than when you’re not fasting.

When fasting, you’re losing glycogen. With the glycogen loss (stored sugar), you’re also going to lose a lot of fluid. This fluid isn’t just water. It’s a combination of water, electrolytes, and salts—which need to go back into the body.

I think it would be a good idea for someone to consume between 2-3 liters of water per day while fasting. This could also help prevent kidney stones.

You would want to be sure to add in electrolytes and sea salt. Forgetting electrolytes and sea salt can potentially lead to keto fatigue, keto flu, and overall weakness. Many people really forget about sea salt. I believe a person should have between 1-1.5 teaspoons of sea salt every day. If you work out, you may need more.

Today we’re going to talk about how to choose your protein wisely on keto. In nature, protein never comes as a complete protein—it comes with fat.

There is something called the insulin index, which looks at the protein effect on insulin. The leaner the protein, the higher the spike in insulin. You would want to consume fattier proteins and avoid lean proteins to get into deeper ketosis.

The calories in your keto diet should consist of about 10% carbs (5% of your carbs should be from vegetables), 20% protein, and 70% fat. This is about 3.5 times more fat than protein. But, really, we have to look at the weight because there is more condensed energy in fat than protein. Now, we’re looking at 1.56g of fat and 1g of protein. Having a higher fat to protein ratio can have many benefits.

Have you tried everything for your acne, but it’s still not clearing up? This may just help.

Let’s say you’ve tried everything to get rid of acne, including the healthy version of keto and fasting, but you still have acne. What can you do? If you haven’t tried healthy keto and fasting yet, this combination may be very beneficial to help clear up acne.

A spike in androgens, a spike in estrogen, or a spike in both of these hormones could be what’s behind your acne.

Stress is one thing that can spike androgens and cause acne. It’s important to do what you can to lower your stress levels.

DHT is something that can trigger acne. A few potential remedies for acne in this situation are saw palmetto, stinging nettle root, or black cohosh.

A spike in estrogen (estrogen dominance) can be behind acne, especially cystic acne. There is an enzyme called aromatase that converts testosterone into estrogen. A few potential natural remedies for acne in this situation are stinging nettle root, cruciferous vegetables, and DIM.

Your liver regulates excessive amounts of hormones, especially estrogen. There could be something going on creating a buffer. A powerful natural remedy for this situation is milk thistle. Of course, the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting may be beneficial too.

High levels of insulin can potentially cause acne and many other symptoms. Consuming a high-carb diet could cause high levels of insulin.

Dairy may also cause high estrogen. If you have a problem with acne, cutting out dairy may clear it up.

Tips to get rid of acne:
• Avoid dairy
• Avoid sugar and refined carbs
• Lower your stress
• Take certain herbs based on your situation
• Take zinc
• Take cod liver oil
• Avoid fluoride

2:48 Bulletproof your immune system (free course!)

Is it possible that when you start the keto plan or intermittent fasting, you will spike your adrenal hormones and create more stress in the body? The answer is no.

Some people believe that it appears to be stressful on the body because you’re starving the body of glucose. But, a person has fat on their body to be used as fuel. I believe it’s logical that our bodies are meant to run off of fat between meals.

Cortisol is a stress hormone. Cortisol is also called glucocorticoid. One of the big functions of cortisol is to keep your blood sugars from getting too low. It will release stored glucose or cause the production of glucose to maintain the blood sugars. This isn’t a stress event. It’s a normal thing that occurs in the body.

It takes about three days for the body to start adapting from burning glucose to burning fat. Cortisol can rise a little bit when a person goes through the three-day keto-adaptation phase, but then it levels out.

When you run your body on glucose, it is very stressful for the body, and you can’t tap into your own fat. But, when you get into ketosis, you could go from a stress state to a much higher level of calmness and state of well-being. Burning fat or being in ketosis is a non-stressful state.

Keep in mind, when you start keto and fasting, it’s important to take electrolytes and B vitamins.

Today we’re going to talk about negative ions. There may be an interesting way you could actually change your mood and boost your health through negative ions.

Have you ever wondered why you feel better when you’re in nature? For example, when you’re walking in the forest or sitting by the ocean? Well, there are a lot more negative ions going on in the air.

An ion is something that can be positively charged or negatively charged. When you’re exposed to negative ions, you may feel better than when you’re exposed to positive ions.

You’re exposed to more negative ions in the air if you’re outdoors in the country vs. outdoors in the city. You’re even exposed to more negative ions if you’re indoors in the country without the AC on than if you were outdoors in the city. With a simple change in your environment, you can increase the negative ions in the air.

Potential benefits of negative ions:
• Increases respiratory function
• Increased energy
• Improved sleep
• Improved mood
• Decreased stress
• Improved recovery
• Enhanced immune system

Drinking too much coffee can have side effects. Check this out!

Today we’re going to talk about how much coffee a person should drink and what can happen if someone drinks too much coffee. Coffee contains caffeine, which blocks a certain chemical that makes you sleepy.

Consuming too much coffee can affect cortisol and adrenaline. Cortisol can help regulate your blood sugars if they’re too low. But, cortisol decreases insulin sensitivity. So, if your cortisol is too high, it can knock you out of ketosis.

Cortisol spikes at about 8:30 am. If you drink coffee throughout the day, you’re continually spiking cortisol. As you do that, you start stressing out the body, which has side effects. Spiking adrenaline can also put you into fight or flight mode.

If a person wants to drink coffee, I think they should consume no more than 8 oz. of coffee in one day.

Potential side effects of consuming too much coffee:
• Fatigue
• Insomnia
• Less ketosis
• Anxiety
• Less cognitive function
• Decreased serotonin
• Tight neck
• Less digestion

A few good things to try:
• Decaf coffee
• Teeccino
• Tea (naturally decaffeinated)

The food industry pumps out 15 million pounds of food dye into our food supply. You might not be eating anything with red food dye, but your kids might be.

Food dyes are in foods, such as:
• Baked goods
• Candy
• Pie filling
• Cake frosting
• Cake mix
• Fruit snacks
• Cereals
• Strawberry filling
• Red sodas

Potential symptoms of consuming red food dye:
• Hyperactivity

What does the hypothalamus do? A lot. Check this out!

Timestamps

0:55 What does the hypothalamus do?
3:28 Inflammation in the hypothalamus
5:33 What you could do for the hypothalamus
6:14 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

Today I’m going to cover what the hypothalamus is and what it does. The hypothalamus represents one percent of the brain. But it’s one of the most active parts of the brain. It’s half gland and half nervous system. It’s half endocrine system and half autonomic nervous system. The endocrine system makes hormones as communication, and the autonomic nervous system uses neurotransmitters as communication.

The hypothalamus controls many different things, including:
• Urination
• Appetite
• Temperature
• Stress
• Reproduction
• Fluid
• Salt
• Glucose levels
• Sleep cycles
• Metabolism
• Smell
• Blood pressure
• Thirst
• Growth
• Sex

The hypothalamus is all about homeostasis. You have sensors all over your body. There is a lot of sensory information going into the body, causing the hypothalamus to make adjustments. It’s like a thermostat that increases or decreases function, but the overall goal is to keep things at a constant. It’s all about balance.

The goal of the hypothalamus is to respond to sensory information and make adjustments to the entire body, adapting to what’s happening for the goal of creating homeostasis or balance.

It’s possible to develop inflammation in the hypothalamus. This can come from overnutrition. Overnutrition basically means you’re consuming too many calories. The real problem is that most of these calories are probably carbs. Too many carbs could potentially cause the hypothalamus to become inflamed and can cause metabolic syndrome. I believe metabolic syndrome is really high insulin, which is caused by insulin resistance.

In my opinion, to get rid of metabolic syndrome, you need to decrease inflammation. To get rid of inflammation, you may want to get on the healthy keto plan and do intermittent fasting.

Today I’m going to cover what I believe is the very best remedy for PMS, which is evening primrose oil.

PMS is premenstrual syndrome. There is a problem somewhere between when you ovulated and when you have your period. PMS is a broad term for many different symptoms.

A few different symptoms of PMS:
• Irritability
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Fatigue
• Headaches
• Low libido
• Cravings
• Breast pain
• A flare-up of endometriosis
• A flare-up of fibroids

What’s happening is the circuits between the brain, the ovaries, and the uterus are not flowing correctly. There is too much of a certain hormone called prolactin, which influences estrogen. The increase in prolactin may be the main problem.

Evening primrose oil has Gamma linolenic acid, which can lower prolactin. By lowering prolactin, it can potentially help with estrogen levels as well. If a woman has PMS and gets tested for prolactin and it’s normal, evening primrose oil may help make that hormone more sensitive and potentially reduce PMS symptoms.

A few more PMS remedies that could be added to this:
• Vitamin D3 (10,000 IUs)
• Calcium (calcium lactate or calcium citrate)

Why do you bloat when you consume vegetables? Take a look.

In this video, we’re going to talk about why some people experience bloating when consuming salads—or, as I like to call it, salad bloating syndrome.

As you probably already know, 7-10 cups of vegetables per day is necessary for healthy nutrient levels in the body. Many people have a difficult time consuming this amount of vegetables.

There are four potential reasons why you might experience bloating when eating vegetables.

1. Small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) – SIBO is a situation where you have an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. This robs your body of nutrients and causes excess fiber fermentation, which leads to gas and bloating.

The best remedies for SIBO include:
• Avoid all plant-based foods (for up to two months)
• Go on a carnivorous diet
• Take betaine hydrochloride
• Use oregano oil

2. Leaky gut – This is a situation where you have holes in the lining of your gut. This leaks into your body and causes a lot of inflammation and irritation.

The best remedies for leaky gut include:
• Avoid lectins
• Nightshades
• Beans
• Legumes
• Grains
• Consume a moderate amount of pasture-raised meats
• Consume plenty of saturated fats (like lard)

3. Poor microbiome – A healthy gut contains trillions of bacteria that benefit the body. If you have too many microbes and not enough good microbes, this creates an imbalance in the gut. In turn, this can cause loads of fermentation and bloating when consuming vegetables.

The best remedies for a poor microbiome include:
• Non-dairy probiotics (take it with your salad)

4. Vegetable sensitivities – The last situation is where you have a sensitivity to certain vegetables. If you notice that your body doesn’t respond well to a particular vegetable, avoid it and try some others.

The best remedies for vegetable sensitivities include:
• Avoid vegetables that bloat you (broccoli and Brussels sprouts are common ones)
• Try vegetables like lettuce and cabbage

Today we’re going to talk about the different foods that could potentially boost libido in both men and women. These foods can have an aphrodisiac effect.

Things like a lack of sleep, chronic stress, or a high carb and high sugar diet can nullify the effects of these foods on libido.

Testosterone is the hormone that increases libido in both men and women. But, women don’t need as much. If women have too much testosterone or other androgens, this could lead to different issues. There needs to be the right balance.

Anything that increases estrogen too much will lower testosterone and lower libido. A few of these things could include:
• Alcohol
• Dairy
• Soy
• Tap water

Foods that could potentially boost libido:
• Pistachios
• Oysters
• Coffee
• Saffron
• Maca root
• Asparagus
• Truffles
• Beets

Make sure you also get on a low-carb diet, get plenty of sleep, lower your stress, and exercise.

2:49 Bulletproof your immune system *free course!

Today we’re going to cover the benefits of macadamia nuts and why they’re great to have on keto.

Per cup macadamia nuts have a great amount of fat, a low amount of carbs, and a lower amount of protein. I’m always trying to find things to eat on keto that are fattier but don’t have too much protein. I usually do animal fat for protein, but then I need to add a little bit more fat so that the fat to protein ratio is correct. You want to have a little bit more fat than protein. Macadamia nuts have the most fat of any other nut.

You really want to make sure you buy fresh macadamia nuts. Macadamia nuts are toxic to dogs, so keep that in mind. But, having a small handful of macadamia nuts right after a meal could help you feel more satisfied.

Benefits of macadamia nuts:
• They are high in fat and low in carbs
• They have omega 7 fatty acids which have many benefits
• They are high in vitamin B1, vitamin B6, copper, manganese, magnesium, and iron

Today we’re going to talk about good fats vs. bad fats.

Bad fats:
• Soy oil
• Corn oil
• Canola oil
• Cottonseed oil
• Margarine

The above oils are GMO and inflammatory. There is a solvent sometimes used when processing these oils that is potentially toxic. There could also be traces of glyphosate (an herbicide in these oils. These oils are in many different foods, including common foods like mayonnaise, salad dressing, and hummus. Margarine has trans fats. Trans fats are deadly.

These bad fats are also loaded with omega 6 fatty acids. In many cases, fast food restaurants and other restaurants include these bad fats in their foods.

There are a few types of oils that are fine for some people to consume in small amounts every now and then, as long as they’re cold-pressed and organic. Flax oil is very estrogenic and may only be beneficial for females who are lacking estrogen and need a small boost over a short period of time.

These oils include:
• Safflower oil
• Sunflower oil
• Flax oil
• Sesame seed oil (and tahini)
• Nut oils

Good fats:
• Cod liver oil
• Avocado oil
• Lard (wild boar)
• Tallow (grass-fed bison, beef, or lamb)
• Camel fat
• Butter (grass-fed, organic, and raw if possible)
• Ghee
• Olive oil (extra virgin olive oil)
• Palm oil (environmentally friendly versions)
• Coconut oil

Today I’m going to show you a few ways to boost your discipline with exercise and diet. I know from my own experience that it’s possible to go from having terrible discipline to being very disciplined. Discipline is self-control. It’s restraint over impulses, emotions, and desires that can counter your progress.

A few tips to boost your discipline with exercise and diet:
1. People are not naturally lazy
If you feel lazy, you really just need more energy. Start with the keto diet first to help give you more energy.

2. Raise your emotion
Your emotion controls your behavior. You could try music, exercising with friends, or being around upbeat people. Also, the more you speed up, the higher your emotion.

3. Find a trainer or coach
A trainer can help push you further than you could push yourself. A keto coach could give you the information you’re missing, which will make a world of difference.

4. Keep your word
Every time you keep your word, you build up your willpower. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. This is a helpful therapy.

5. Make it easy to do
Make your recipes simple and start out with short or easy exercises. Something is better than nothing.
