In this video, we’re going to talk about the five top health tips of all time.

But before we look at the best tips, we should take a look at the worst tips. Here’s what you should NOT do:
• Low fat
• Low salt
• Lots of water
• Lean protein
• Lose weight to get healthy
• 6 small meals per day
• Exercise is most important
• Reduce added sugars, but you can still have some
• Eat your breakfast
• There are no bad foods
• Everything in moderation
• No one diet for everyone
• Every diet works if you keep your calories low
• Replace saturated fats with vegetable oil

Here are the 5 best health tips:

1. Keep insulin normal
Keeping your insulin levels normal is one of the best things you can do for weight loss and your overall health. To promote healthy insulin levels, lower your carbohydrates, increase your healthy fats, and avoid all vegetable oils.

2. Fasting
Intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting are incredible tools for promoting a healthy body. They induce autophagy and help normalize your insulin levels. Two things you can do to start off your intermittent fasting plan is to skip breakfast and cut out all snacks.

3. Get healthy to lose weight
One of the worst tips is to lose weight to get healthy—instead, you should get healthy to lose weight. You want to always focus on your health first, and the weight loss will come with it. Keep in mind that you can lose weight without being healthy—this is not our goal!

4. Do healthy keto
A low-carb, high-fat diet will put your body into ketosis. Ketones are the body’s preferred fuel source. A healthy keto diet consists of plenty of vegetables and healthy fats that promote overall health and longevity. You always want to focus on organic, grass-fed, pasture-raised, wild-caught, and full-fat products.

5. Exercise, sleep, and reduce stress
Stress triggers insulin, which blocks weight loss. You want to get plenty of sleep and exercise to reduce stress and promote a healthy body.

Give these tips a try and let me know how they affect your health and happiness.

Is it okay to put toothpaste on acne? Toothpaste is formulated for your teeth, not your skin. There are actually several ingredients in toothpaste that are not good for your skin.

A few of these ingredients are:
1. Sodium bicarbonate
This is very alkaline and can irritate your skin. It can also disrupt the natural bacteria of your skin.

2. Sodium lauryl sulfate
This can be too harsh on the skin. It can remove the oil layer and can cause irritation or even a rash.

3. Triclosan
This may make your bacteria resistant to antibiotics.

4. Fluoride
This could create a condition called fluoroderma, which actually looks like acne.

If you want nice skin, don’t put toothpaste on it. Instead, try these four things:
• Lower your carbs (get on the healthy keto diet)
• Do intermittent fasting
• Take probiotics
• Avoid dairy

Today let’s talk about vitamin D and skin type. The pigment in your skin (melanin) has an interesting function of acting as a filter for UV light. So it could potentially prevent the harmful rays that could cause cancer. So, the more melanin you have in your skin, the more protection you may have against skin cancer.

The darker the skin, the more melanin, the more natural sunscreen a person has to protect against UV light. But, people who have more melanin may have a greater risk of having a vitamin D deficiency. They might need three to five times more vitamin D than someone with much less melanin.

Also, if you have liver or kidney problems, you may not be able to convert the pre-vitamin D (the inactive form) to the active form of vitamin D that you need.

Most tests only check for the inactive form of vitamin D and not the active form of vitamin D. If you have a liver or kidney problem, and your vitamin D levels appear normal, know that the test could be misleading.

But, there is a home kit that you can get to measure your vitamin D levels. The company agreed to give my followers a 20% discount for this kit. Just use the code: drberg20. They have other interesting tests available on their website as well.

In this video, we’re going to talk about diabetes. The secret to diabetes is actually hidden in the definition.

If you have diabetes and you’ve done some research on it, you may be completely confused. If you looked up the definition of diabetes, you would see that it says that diabetes is hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). I’m going to clear this up in this video.

Why is diabetes so dangerous? Well, high blood sugar affects the blood vessels (both small and large) throughout your body. Diabetes most commonly causes issues in the retinas, kidneys, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.

High blood sugar is caused by a lack of insulin. What controls insulin? The pancreas controls your insulin.

Insulin goes through the blood and connects to certain receptors to lower your blood sugar.

What creates low insulin levels? It can either be a lower production of insulin or the lack of ability to receive insulin. The insulin receptors can become blocked or resistant to insulin.

The first compensatory hyperinsulinemia is when the cells begin to resist insulin, and the pancreas compensates by creating more insulin. This causes dysfunction beta cells in your pancreas, which lowers your insulin far too much. Then, your blood sugar levels become out of control.

The issue is consuming sugar and carbohydrates. To promote healthy blood sugar levels, you have to eliminate carbs and sugars in your diet.

In summary, carbohydrates and sugars are at the center of diabetes. Even whole grains, starchy vegetables, and “natural” sugars can cause adverse effects and contribute to diabetes.

What type of food do you eat when you’re stressed? Is it something like candy, chocolate, or bread? Or, maybe you drink alcohol or take a pill? When you consume carbs, it affects your blood sugar levels. Your blood sugar will end up at a lower state about 30-40 minutes after eating the carbs. This will then increase your cortisol levels and cause you to feel more stressed.

Dopamine (a pleasure hormone) is actually increased with the anticipation of a reward like cookies or ice cream, but not when you’re consuming it. Dopamine doesn’t actually lower cortisol, and your cortisol will be increased after consuming carbs. Medication or alcohol may block stress for longer, but it will come back.

A few powerful things you can do for stress:
1. Take vitamin B1 or nutritional yeast (without synthetic vitamins)
2. Take magnesium
3. Drink lemon balm tea
4. Take L-theanine
5. Take an adaptogen like ashwagandha

3:21 Need keto consulting?

In this video, we’re going to talk about cod liver oil and the prevention of COVID-19. Can cod liver oil prevent COVID-19?

There’s a huge clinical trial being done right now in Norway on 70,000 people on the effectiveness of this method.

An earlier study showed some very interesting results that indicated that cod liver oil may have decreased the number of cases of covid-19 and decrease the severity of complications due to covid. Keep in mind that I’m not saying that cod liver oil will cure, treat, or prevent covid. This data is inconclusive.

Interestingly, the coronavirus death rate in Norway is 2-3x lower than the average. Out of 50,000 cases, they have only had 436 deaths. Norway has about the same population as Colorado or Minnesota. However, Norway has 7x fewer cases and 10x fewer deaths compared to Colorado. They also have 10x fewer cases and 12x fewer deaths compared to Minnesota.

Obviously, Norway is doing something very right.

I believe this may be due to the amount of cod liver oil and fatty fish that they consume. Finland has similar covid statistics.

What is in cod liver oil that makes it so effective? Well, cod liver oil contains:
• Omega-3 fatty acids
• Vitamin E
• Vitamin A
• Vitamin D

All of these vitamins help promote a healthy immune system.

Though the research is inconclusive, it may not be a bad idea to include fatty fish or cod liver oil into your diet.

Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting:

I’ve condensed some of the most important information I’ve shared on intermittent fasting in past videos into these 7 intermittent fasting rules. Check this out.

4:35 Intermittent fasting rules – #4
5:20 Intermittent fasting rules – #5
6:15 Intermittent fasting rules – #6
6:43 Intermittent fasting rules – #7

Today I’m going to cover the most important rules of intermittent fasting. I’ve done a lot of different videos on this topic, but I wanted to condense everything from those videos into just one.

The 7 most important intermittent fasting rules:

1. Water, tea, and coffee are fine to have while fasting. I think drinking water while fasting is beneficial. Certain types of tea may actually help you fast for longer and decrease hunger. Coffee is fine, but don’t overdo it.

2. I believe taking certain supplements while fasting is important. This includes taking vitamins, electrolytes, trace minerals, nutritional yeast, and omega-3 fatty acids. A green drink without fiber (like wheatgrass juice powder) is fine. You may want to avoid protein powders and branched-chain amino acids. You can try bone broth or MCT oil, but they don’t work well for everyone.

3. Don’t eat unless you’re hungry. If you meet your fasting goal, but you’re not hungry, and you feel like you can go longer, then go a little longer. But don’t go too far to the point where you’re weak, tired, irritable, or dizzy.

4. The longer the fast, the more important it is to refeed slowly. If you do a fast for 48 hours or longer, make sure that when you do eat, it’s just a small amount of food. Then wait and gradually have more.

5. A good indication of how bad your insulin resistance may be is how long you can fast. If you can fast easily, your insulin resistance may be much better. If you can’t fast for very long, you may still have insulin resistance, and you just have to give it more time and keep working at it.

6. I believe you should always do healthy keto with intermittent fasting. The healthy keto diet may help keep your insulin low when you do eat and may provide a wide range of health benefits. A high-carb diet could minimize the effects of intermittent fasting.

7. It may be beneficial to do periodic prolonged fasting. Longer fasts may provide additional benefits. There are three potential benefits that people can get from doing regular intermittent fasting: weight loss, cognitive benefits, and mood benefits. But, periodic prolonged fasting could potentially support the brain and immune system, as well as provide anti-aging benefits.

Timestamps

0:07 What is schizophrenia?
0:23 Causes of schizophrenia
1:00 Another theory
2:20 Other potential benefits of vitamin B3

Today we’re going to talk about niacin (vitamin B3) and schizophrenia. With schizophrenia, a person may have hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, feelings of disconnection, a loss of interest in life, and may feel emotionless.

The medical theory of what causes schizophrenia is dopamine excess. A person is then given certain drugs to help regulate this. The potential problem with these drugs is that they could have side effects that cause metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. This has been shown to worsen symptoms of schizophrenia because of what it could do to the brain.

However, Dr. Abram Hoffer had another theory about schizophrenia. It was called the adrenochrome theory. Adrenochrome is basically the byproducts of adrenaline. In his research, he found that the chemical structure of adrenaline is similar to LSD and that in higher amounts, it could have certain effects on the brain. His theory was that schizophrenia comes from excessive amounts of adrenochrome in the brain, which is toxic.

Normally, a person has an enzyme that clears out that chemical. But, people with schizophrenia have a defect with this enzyme. He found that large doses of vitamin B3 every day (straight niacin) may help prevent the conversion of the precursor of adrenaline to adrenaline, making less adrenaline. This could potentially help clear out adrenaline as well as decrease the production of adrenaline.

Other potential benefits of vitamin B3:
• It could help reduce liver toxicity
• It could help reduce oxidative stress in the mitochondria
• It could help the DNA repair

2:56 What normal blood sugar levels should look like
3:22 The bad effects of sugar on the body

What age group eats the most sugar? It turns out, those in the 11-18 age group consume the most sugar. Many people don’t realize that all carbs turn into sugar in the body. The only exception is fiber. Fiber is a carbohydrate, but it doesn’t turn into sugar in the body.

Vegetables are great because they are low in sugar and high in fiber. But, most fruits are actually grown in a certain way to have more sugar so they will taste sweeter. For example, a honey crisp apple has 19g of sugar. The only types of fruit I would consume (in small amounts) are berries, like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries.

With a normal blood sugar level, a person would have only about one teaspoon of sugar in all of their blood. That one teaspoon of sugar can actually be made by your own body. You don’t have to consume carbs or sugar. The body can make the sugar it needs from fat or protein.

Potential problems that can happen when a person consumes high amounts of sugar:
• Diabetes
• Heart problems (high blood pressure, clots, stroke)
• Bad teeth
• Bad breath
• Problems with the brain (ADD, brain fog, irritability, anxiety, depression, low cognitive function)
• Problems with hormones
• Skin problems
• Joint inflammation
• Low endurance
• Tiredness
• Problems with the eyes
• Belly fat
• Nerve pain
• Problems with the liver

A good exercise might be to take one day and evaluate how much sugar you consume per day. You can even get an app to help you measure the carbohydrates you’re consuming to help give you an idea of how much sugar you consume.

In this video, we’re going to talk about 9 ways to boost your stress tolerance. If you’re someone who regularly gets flustered when driving behind a slow driver, or if you regularly feel stress at work, this video is for you.

Take a look at these 9 ways to increase your stress tolerance.

1. Increase your sleep – If you aren’t getting enough sleep at night, you’re not going to be able to be patient and stress-free throughout the day. Avoid blue light before bed and get 7-8 hours of quality sleep.

2. Get plenty of vitamin B1 – Vitamin B1 directly affects your tolerance to stress. Get vitamin B1 from a natural source, like nutritional yeast.

3. Lower your carbohydrates – A high-carb diet will cause significant blood sugar and insulin fluctuations, which can cause significant irritability and boost your stress.

4. Avoid the news – The news can be overwhelmingly negative, and it can add unnecessary fear and stress to your life.

5. Exercise – Exercise increases the oxygen in your blood and lowers your stress naturally. Long walks are especially good for lowering your stress levels.

6. Magnesium – This mineral is great for lowering your stress levels. 7 cups of vegetables and a bottle of mineral water a day will give you plenty of magnesium.

7. Vitamin D – Get plenty of sunlight or supplement vitamin D. Vitamin D helps reduce stress and anxiety as well as support healthy sleep.

8. Ketones – Ketones elevate your mood and promote healthy stress levels. Get on keto and intermittent fasting.

9. Change your environment – Get outside and enjoy nature. This can really help slow down your pace and get rid of stress.

Leave a comment below with your current stress level and let me know how these tips help you this week.

Vitamin D Comes From Sheep’s Wool: WHAT???

2:17 Key takeaways
2:36 Need keto consulting? Call this number!

In this video, we’re going to talk about the best sources of vitamin D.

The absolute best source of vitamin D is the sun. When the sun’s rays hit your skin, your body produces a form of pre-vitamin D using the cholesterol in your skin. This pre-vitamin D is then converted into the active form of vitamin D.

Many different factors affect your ability to get your vitamin D from the sun. Where you live, your skin color, the time of year, your age, and your weight factor into your ability to create vitamin D naturally. In many parts of the world, getting vitamin D naturally can be difficult.

Food sources of vitamin D include cod liver oil, fatty fish, oysters, and sardines. The problem is that these food sources often do not contain enough to supply you with the amount of vitamin D that you need to stay healthy (unless you consume a MASSIVE amount of these foods). This is where supplements can help pick up the slack.

The best supplemental form of vitamin D is vitamin D3, which most often comes from sheep’s wool. A healthy sheep produces 2-30 pounds of wool per year. That wool is then sheered to create a lanolin extract. They can then extract vitamin D3 from this wool.

Vitamin D3 is the same form of vitamin D that your body creates naturally. The form of vitamin D that your body does not make is vitamin D2, which happens to be the form that most supplements use. Your body does not absorb a large portion of vitamin D2, which is why I do not think it’s the best way to get your vitamin D—you end up wasting a large portion of it.

How long do you think you might live? The oldest person documented lived to be 122 years old. Currently, the oldest living person is a woman living in Japan who is 118 years old. The first fifty people on the list of oldest living people are all women. Women do tend to live longer than men.

On average, in the United States, men live to be 76.1 years old. On average, in the United States, women live to be 81.1 years old.

There are three reasons why women may live longer than men:
1. Women have more estrogen
2. Women have a better immune system
3. Women have a lower production of oxidants

Men need to work twice as hard as women to keep their oxidants low and their antioxidants very high. Personally, I’m actively doing things every day to extend my life. What are you doing to help extend your life? If you’re not sure what to do, check out my other videos.

Today we’re going to talk about what to do at the first sign of a kidney stone.

What are the first signs of a kidney stone?
1. Back pain (usually on one side and could wrap around to the front)
2. Lower abdominal pain or deep dull ache on one side
3. Groin pain
4. Blood in the urine
5. Painful urination
6. Urge to urinate but unable to do so
7. Nausea or vomiting

A kidney stone can develop in the kidney or just outside of the kidney in the duct. There are several types of kidney stones, but the most common is the oxalate stone, which we’re going to focus on.

What you could do if you start noticing symptoms of a kidney stone:
• Drink at least 2.5 liters of fluid
• Drink 1 cup of lemon juice per day
• Take potassium citrate

Foods to avoid (foods high in oxalates):
• Spinach
• Almonds
• Chocolate
• Swiss chard
• Beet tops
• Peanuts

If you consume these foods, here are a few things you could do to help prevent calcium oxalate stones:
• Consume the food with calcium (for example, a spinach salad with cheese)
• Take chondroitin sulfate
• Take berberine
• Take cod liver oil

Timestamps
0:00 How many carbs should a diabetic consume?
0:10 What do the experts say?
3:12 What can you do?

How many carbohydrates should a person with diabetes consume on a daily basis? The experts say that 45-60% of your calories should be from carbs. If a person consumes 1800 calories per day, that’s 225g of carbs per day. They also say there is no magic number of carbs a person should consume and that appetite and hunger should play a role.

This is insanity and a recipe for disaster. I believe a person should keep their carbs between twenty and fifty grams per day.

Here are a few things you could do:
• Reduce your carbs (less than 50g per day)
• Stop snacking
• Intermittent fasting (consume two meals a day)
• Increase healthy fats
• Stop consuming so-called “healthy carbs” (fruit, whole grains, brown rice)
• Consume Himalayan sea salt
• Avoid omega-6 fatty acids
• Increase omega-3 fatty acids

In this video, we’re going to talk about the world’s cheapest mental health booster: bird watching.

Bird watching is a great natural mental health booster for…
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Depression

There are three studies done in the UK that showed significant changes in stress, anxiety, and depression after doing several hours of bird watching. Along with lowering stress, they also noticed a huge boost in happiness among the participants.

Bird watching shifts your attention from your stressors and onto something peaceful and beautiful.

Other activities that may have a similar effect include listing to nature sounds outdoors, nature walks, and identifying trees and other plants.

If you’re interested in identifying plants, try the app “Picture This.” The app allows you to take a picture of a plant, and it will tell you all about it. It’s quite fascinating.

Give it a try, and let me know how bird watching affects your mental health.

Insulin resistance is like a pre-pre-diabetes—one of the first signs or clues of diabetes. If you can catch it at the insulin resistance stage, you can potentially avoid any further progression.

The first indicators of insulin resistance include:
1. Frequent hunger
2. Carbohydrate cravings
3. Not feel satisfied after a meal
4. Urination at night
5. Thirst before bed
6. Feeling tired after eating
7. Belly fat

Take a look at what’s happening when you have insulin resistance. This situation is when the insulin receptors are downgraded, so they don’t receive insulin. This means that the feedback loop to the pancreas is stopped. In turn, the pancreas pumps out more and more insulin, which further contributes to insulin resistance.

When you get to the pre-diabetes stage, you start to lose this pancreatic compensation, and your blood sugars start to go a little too high.

Full-blown diabetes is when you lose more compensation, and your blood sugar levels skyrocket because your insulin levels are low.

When you first have signs of insulin resistance or pre-diabetes, what do they do? They often wait until it turns into diabetes, and then they start treating it with medications and diet changes.

However, many “professionals” think that a healthy diet should allow 225 carbs. This is way too much—especially if you have insulin resistance. It will be virtually impossible to get rid of this situation if you are consuming that number of carbohydrates.

Here’s what you can do for insulin resistance and pre-diabetes:
1. Lower your carbs to less than 50 grams
2. Stop snacking
3. Cut back to 2 meals a day (intermittent fasting)
4. Get plenty of butyrate by consuming vegetables
5. Get plenty of vitamin D
6. Replenish your chromium, vitamin B1, potassium, and magnesium

You can also use some plants and herbs to help support healthy blood sugar and insulin levels. Try using cinnamon, green tea, Gymnema, and berberine.

In this video, we’re going to talk about the mental health benefits of having a pet. Did you know what 96% of pet owners consider their pet as a member of the family?

Research shows three major mental health benefits of having a pet. Pets can…
• Lower stress
• Rid anxiety
• Rid depression symptoms

The reason pets have this effect on people is for five primary reasons. Having a pet can…
1. Lower your cortisol levels – cortisol is known as the “stress hormone”
2. Lower your blood pressure levels
3. Increase your levels of oxytocin – this can improve your sense of wellbeing and support pregnant mothers
4. Increase endorphins – this helps minimize discomfort and maximize pleasure
5. Boost dopamine – this is a pleasure hormone that helps decrease stress and anxiety

Let me know in the comments below if you feel that your pet has improved your mental health.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do at the first sign of dementia.

What are the first signs of dementia? They can be:
1. A loss of spatial navigation (like forgetting where you parked your car)
2. Difficulty finding the right words
3. Confusion
4. Repeating yourself

Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are situations where your neurons cannot get fuel anymore—specifically glucose. This can happen if you have insulin resistance.

If you have ketones and glucose in your blood at the same time, your brain will prefer ketones and use them first. Ketones are the byproduct of fat burning. Rarely does anyone run their body on ketones.

The first thing you want to do if you are experiencing dementia symptoms is to start feeding your brain ketones. This will help bypass the degraded glucose absorption mechanism that is starving your brain of fuel and begin to feed the neurons directly.

There are three ways you can increase your ketones:
1. Lower your carbs
2. Do intermittent fasting
3. Supply your body with healthy fats, like MCT oil and fatty fish

DHA, zinc, and vitamin B1 are other important nutrients for supporting a healthy brain. Exercise and sleep are also vital to healthy brain function.
