The Hidden Cause of Vitamin D Deficiency

There could be something much deeper going on that’s causing your vitamin D deficiency. Check this out.

2:55 What is your vitamin D deficiency coming from?
3:11 What to do

In this video, we’re going to talk about another important huge cause of a vitamin D deficiency. There are over 1 billion people on this planet that don’t have enough vitamin D.

There are many reasons for this big problem. A few causes of a vitamin D deficiency are:

• You don’t get enough sun
• You’re sitting in front of a computer screen all of the time
• It’s almost impossible to get the vitamin D you need from food
• You have insulin resistance
• You consume a lot of sugar and refined carbs

But there’s something else that’s very important going on. Vitamin D can only work if it connects to a receptor. There is something called the vitamin D receptor (VDR). A few vitamin D benefits are that it helps regulate calcium and supports bone health. But, that’s only a small part of what it does.

The vitamin D receptor is responsible for 229 genes. So, this receptor has the ability to create a lot of different effects. A really big function of vitamin D is immune modulation. This means that it can control your immune system to a great extent.

One of the primary strategies used by pathogens is called “successive infection,” which means it slows down the immune system by interfering with the vitamin D receptor.

Some microbes that interfere with the vitamin D receptor:

• TB
• Lyme (Borrelia burgdorferi)
• Syphilis
• Leprosy
• EBV
• HIV

So, could your vitamin D deficiency be caused by a microbe shutting down the receptor, or could you have a vitamin D deficiency allowing these microbes to invade? If you have an infection, you may want to take vitamin D.

1:37 The four best adaptogens
1:49 Benefits of ashwagandha

In this video, I’m going to cover what you need to know about adaptogens.

What are adaptogens?
An adaptogen is usually a plant or herb that helps increase the ability to adapt and avoid damage from harmful factors. The Latin word for adaptogen is “adaptare,” which means to adjust or fit. The greek word for “GEN” means produced by or generated by. So, an adaptogen generates the ability to adjust to stress.

Stress is something that threatens homeostasis.

Homeostasis is a steady state of equilibrium. You have different normal values that are generated by different mechanisms that control homeostasis, which is your internal ability to adapt to the environment—to keep things normal. But, when you have stress, it can push some of these factors out of balance. For example, when you’re stressed, cortisol goes up. In this situation, an adaptogen can help bring that back to normal. If your immune system is suppressed, adaptogens may even be able to help bring it back to a higher level.

The four best adaptogens:

1. Siberian ginseng
2. Panax ginseng
3. Rhodiola
4. Ashwagandha

My favorite adaptogen is ashwagandha.

Ashwagandha can be good for:

• Inflammatory conditions like arthritis
• Anxiety
• ADHA
• Stress relief
• Lowering cortisol
• Adrenal stress

The #1 Most Powerful Epigenetic Trigger: SURPRISING

No one, not even most doctors, typically think of this powerful epigenetic trigger. Find out what it is.

1:22 Spontaneous remission
2:28 The most powerful epigenetics trigger

Today we’re going to talk about the most powerful trigger of epigenetics.

What is epigenetics?
Epigenetics are the factors that are outside of your genes that affect your genes and turn them on or off (expressed or silenced). Epigenetics are the controlling factors for what diseases you may get, how long you may live, and what may happen to your health.

What influences epigenetics:

1. Environment
2. Drugs
3. Diet
4. Age
5. Nutritional deficiencies
6. Stress
7. Exercise
8. Thoughts, beliefs, etc.

There is a term called spontaneous remission. For example, let’s say someone has a disease, and all of a sudden, it goes in remission, or they’re HIV positive, and all of a sudden they’re HIV negative, or they have a tumor and all of a sudden it disappeared. In her book, “Mind Over Medicine,” Lissa Rankin M.D. talks about spontaneous remission as well as the placebo effect.

Your mental state and your thoughts can have a huge effect on epigenetics. This helps explain why it can be much more difficult to heal if you’re in a stress state.

Why Babies Thrive on Ketosis

Babies on keto may have the best chance to truly thrive and optimize their health. Think about this.

1:52 Babies on formula vs. breastmilk
2:32 If we started out on ketones, why would we change anything?

In this video, we’re going to talk about why babies thrive on keto.

When a woman is pregnant, especially during the last trimester, 30% of all of the energy fed to that baby is from ketones. Once the baby is born, for the first two hours, they’re running off of lactate. But, after that, they convert to ketones again.

Ketones are not meant to be an alternative fuel. In fact, breast milk is loaded with MCT fats, which then turn into ketones.

A baby’s brain makes up between 11-12% of their entire body weight, as compared to an adult brain, which only makes up 2% of the weight. With a newborn, 75% of all of the energy used is for the brain. An adult uses 20-25% of energy for the brain.

Ketones not only provide a good amount of fuel for an infant’s brain, but they also provide the building blocks for the lipids of the infant’s brain. Ketones also supply the brain with 90% of the carbon to make the white matter.

Babies are born with extra fat because that fat can help supply more ketones. But, formulas are like giving a baby a high carb diet. The glucose and carbohydrates will prevent the ketones from being used as fuel. Consider trying to breastfeed as long as possible. In the process, make sure you’re eating foods with all of the ket nutrients. That way, the child has the best chance of optimizing their IQ, bone formation, the reduction of risk of different diseases, and their longevity.

If we started out on ketones, why would we want to go to a high carb diet?

Since the Stone Age, our bodies have adapted to various things like starvation and freezing. A little bit of freezing occasionally is very beneficial to your body. It creates something called the hormetic effect. It induces a small amount of stress to make your body stronger.

There are certain genes, proteins, and enzymes that become activated when you put yourself in colder temperatures. You can use a cryotherapy chamber to get this effect, or just take a cold shower.

Cryotherapy:
• Increases satellite cells (turns into a muscle cell)
• Increases kinases cells
• Suppresses certain genes that regulate inflammation
• Increases mitochondria

The 10 benefits of cryotherapy:

1. Decrease muscle soreness and repair muscle damage
2. Improves the immune system
