Today we’re going to talk about the immune benefits of vitamin C. Vitamin C does a lot of different things for your health, but it’s immune benefits are really amazing.

Vitamin C deficiencies are actually a very common problem. You can have what’s called a subclinical vitamin C deficiency, where you’re not completely deficient, but you’re deficient enough to have a weakened immune system. Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient. This means that unless you’re constantly getting vitamin C, you could become deficient very quickly.

Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant. Free-radicals can damage certain things in the body. Vitamin C can help counter free-radical damage.

Immune benefits of vitamin C:

1. Enhanced antibodies
2. Increased neutrophil motility
3. Enhanced B-cells (increases antibodies)
4. Enhanced T-cells (helps fight pathogens)
5. Increased interferon (kills infected cells)

A vitamin C deficiency can make you more susceptible to certain infections. If you’re very deficient in vitamin C, you can develop scurvy. Scurvy can increase susceptibility to fatal infections like pneumonia. Scurvy is often followed by infectious epidemics because infections increase the need for vitamin C. If you’re using your immune system more, you can deplete your vitamin C reserves.

Causes of a vitamin C deficiency:

1. Not getting enough vitamin C from the diet
2. An infection that puts stress on the immune system

How much vitamin C do you need?

• You need at least 200mg of vitamin C per day.

Foods high in vitamin C are:

• Sauerkraut
• Leafy greens
• Bell peppers
• Hot peppers

If you’re going to take vitamin C supplements, make sure that you take a whole-food-based complex vitamin C supplement, not a synthetic vitamin C supplement.

Magnesium Protects Against the Bad Effects of Calcium

Magnesium and calcium have a really interesting relationship. Check this out.

Magnesium and Sleep Cycles:

Magnesium Rich Foods:

Timestamps
0:05 Magnesium function
1:02 Magnesium deficiency
1:29 The RDAs of magnesium
1:35 Foods rich in magnesium
2:01 Magnesium and calcium relationship

In this video, we’re going to talk about magnesium and calcium. I’m going to explain the interesting effect magnesium has on calcium.

Magnesium is involved in over 350 biochemical reactions. It’s a coenzyme involved in enzyme reactions. It’s also a key electrolyte.

Magnesium is also involved in:

• Muscle relaxation
• Nerve transmission
• Fluid balance
• pH
• ATP production
• Mood
• Anti-stress
• Sleep
• Bone physiology
• Heart physiology
• Supporting insulin

Magnesium is very important. But, up to 60% of the population has a subclinical magnesium deficiency. Subclinical means that it won’t show up on a blood test, but you’re still deficient. The deficiency is inside of the cell. 98% of your magnesium is inside of the cell, not outside of the cell. So, if you get a blood test and find that your magnesium levels are normal in your blood, it may not really mean anything.

• The RDAs of magnesium for men are 420 milligrams.

• The RDAs of magnesium for women are 320 milligrams.

Good sources of magnesium:

• Pumpkin seeds
• Spinach
• Swiss chard
• Sunflower seeds
• Leafy greens
• Salmon

One of the important things magnesium does is keeping calcium outside of the cell. If there is enough magnesium in the cell, it can prevent calcium from going inside of the cell and creating damage.

When there’s low magnesium, and calcium gets out of control, you can start getting:

• Calcification
• Hyperexcitability of the nervous system
• Insulin problems
• Stiffness
• Sticky blood
• The liver can start to produce too much glucose
• Kidney stones

3:49 Other benefits of microbes

Did you know that your body can’t make vitamins? But your friendly bacteria are vitamin-making machines.

Your good bacteria in the gut can make:

• Vitamin K – stops bleeding
• Vitamin B12 – supports the nervous system and blood
• Vitamin B1 – may benefit the nervous system, brain, and heart
• Vitamin B2 – helps break down carbs, protein, and fat to turn into energy
• Vitamin B3 – may help you regulate cholesterol, support brain function, and support joint health
• Vitamin B5 – a coenzyme in a lot of biochemical reactions including making protein
• Vitamin B6 – may help with PMS symptoms, edema, and carpal tunnel syndrome
• Biotin – is important for your hair, skin, and nails
• Folate – may help protect DNA and is involved in making DNA

If there is something not right with your gut flora, you could be deficient in all of these important vitamins. You can get these good microbes by consuming fermented foods—especially sauerkraut. Your microbes help you in many different ways. So, it’s not just about eating healthy. It’s about preserving the good bacteria that help you make vitamins so you can be healthy.

Your good bacteria also make:

• Enzymes
• Amino acids
• Lactase

The 10 Key Symptoms of Prediabetes

Understanding these prediabetes symptoms and why they occur could change everything.

Timestamps
0:04 Pre-symptoms of diabetes
1:38 What happens before prediabetes
2:27 Insulin resistance
3:38 What to do

In this video, we’re going to talk about the pre-symptoms of diabetes.

Prediabetes symptoms:

1. Darkened skin (in the body folds)
2. Poor memory
3. Tired after eating
4. Belly fat
5. Hunger and cravings
6. Slow healing
7. Urination at night/increased thirst
8. Dry mouth
9. Itchy
10. Blurred vision

The thing is, you could have all of these symptoms, and your blood sugar levels may still not be high. This is because, way before you get diabetes or even prediabetes, you have high insulin. You probably have high insulin from consuming a high-carb diet and eating too frequently.

Too much insulin is toxic, so you will develop insulin resistance. This can go on for years until you eventually develop prediabetes and then diabetes.

This can be an easy problem to solve if you understand that all of these symptoms are really side effects of too much insulin and too much blood sugar. In my opinion, the obvious thing to do to help with this situation would be to cut down on the carbohydrates in the diet.

Today we’re going to talk about the dangers and benefits of erythritol.

What is erythritol?
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol. It’s an alternative sweetener, and it’s 60-70% as sweet as sugar. It has less than 25% of 1 calorie per gram. Sugar has 4 calories per gram. Erythritol has .24 calories per gram. It has 95% less calories than sugar.

Erythritol gets absorbed in the small intestine, it gets in the blood, but it gets excreted by the kidney unchanged. The microbes don’t like to eat it. There aren’t many negative side effects of erythritol. It has zero impact on insulin—it doesn’t affect the blood sugars.

*As long as it’s non-GMO, I think erythritol is a great alternative sweetener.

The dangers of erythritol in high doses (greater than 50 grams):

1. Gas
2. Bloating
3. Stomach noise
4. A laxative effect

Today I want to give you a very important tip to help figure out health problems. This is so simple, but it’s so important. This is one of the most important questions to ask yourself or someone else when trying to figure out health issues.

The most important question to ask when figuring out health problems is: “What happened just before you experienced the health condition?”

There is always a trigger. It could be food-related, stress-related, or environmental. If you have a health problem, think about what happened just before you started to experience that health complaint.

This Is What Sugar Does to Your Arteries

4:32 Antioxidants
5:16 A good natural remedy

Today we’re going to talk about what sugar and your arteries. For a diabetic, probably the biggest damage from high amounts of sugar in the blood is done to the vascular system.

The macrovascular system:
These are the large vessels like the coronary artery, which supplies the heart muscle. This also includes peripheral arteries throughout the body.

The microvascular system:
These are small capillaries that go to the retina in the eye, the kidneys, and the nerves in your feet and hands.

Sugar basically rusts out your vascular system. It creates all sorts of oxidation. The layer of the inside of the blood vessel is called the endothelium. The endothelium controls the tone of the blood vessels, and it prevents things from invading the blood vessels. The endothelium is also highly sensitive to too much sugar.

Glucose can create inflammation in the arteries, which is the beginning stage of a sequence of events that can end in a blockage in your artery.

Oxidation can create a lot of serious effects within the body that you may not know is going on until you have a problem. It can thicken the inside of the blood vessels creating stiffness.

High sugar can also cause insulin resistance, which can create decreased blood flow. A lot of the neurological damage that occurs from diabetes comes from the damaged blood vessels that starve off the nerves.

Sugar can also have effects on the arteries, including:

• Creating advanced glycated end-products, which are very toxic to the arteries and the rest of the body.

• You can start to develop excessive amounts of sorbitol, which can lead to cataracts, blindness, and peripheral neuropathy.

Your body actually has the ability to make sugar if needed. This is called gluconeogenesis. But, none of these effects happens during gluconeogenesis. This is because your body also makes antioxidants that protect against the complications of high-sugar. This is another reason why you should eat foods high in antioxidants. Another potential natural remedy for some of these conditions is called benfotiamine.

Today we’re going to talk about anxiety and how to turn off anxiety like a switch. The term anxiety comes from the Latin word “angere” which means “to strangle.”

An interesting book called “Autonomic Nerves” describes fight or flight as: “The flight or fight reaction is a physiological response to a real or perceived threat to one’s safety. Depending on the nature of the threat, the person either mounts a defense (fight), or attempts to escape from a threat (flight). Both fight or flight require sudden vigorous muscle action.”

What having anxiety feels like:

1. Racing heart
2. Sweating
3. Shaking
4. Throat constricted
5. Breathing changes
6. Blurry vision/dizziness
7. Nausea
8. Irritation
9. Worry
10. Poor concentration
11. Mind goes blank
12. Focus on the negative
13. Sleeplessness

I’ve noticed many people with anxiety have a poor diet filled with stimulants. In many cases, they also seem to be depleted of vitamin B1.

How to control anxiety:

1. Probiotics
2. B-vitamins (especially B1)
3. Magnesium
4. Avoid environmental triggers
5. Adaptogens

In this quick video, I’m going to share with you the 7 best natural laxatives. If you’re constipated, it could be that the problem that you have is mainly in the large intestine more than the small intestine. The large intestine has smooth muscle that allows it to contract and push food along the tract.

The best natural laxatives:

1. Senna
2. Cascara sagrada
3. Black psyllium (swells with water)
4. Castor oil
5. Magnesium
6. Vegetables (fermented)
7. Probiotics

People often say they don’t want to take a laxative because they may be addicting. But, the toxic effect of having chronic constipation can be very dangerous to the body vs. the minor side effect of taking a laxative.

You might experience a small drop in potassium from taking a laxative, but you can easily take more potassium. Ultimately, you want to correct what’s really causing the constipation, which usually is what you’re eating, or a lack of friendly bacteria.

Today we’re going to talk about coronavirus susceptibility and susceptibility to other viruses.

When someone sneezes, about 20,000 little droplets containing viruses are projected through the air. For viruses like COVID-19 to spread, it has to be propelled in the air, and you have to come in contact with it. Certain viruses have targets for certain tissues. The coronavirus targets the lungs.

Viruses are everywhere. One liter of seawater contains over 100 billion viruses. So, it really all comes down to susceptibility.

The purpose of a virus is to deliver its DNA or RNA into the host cell to be copied so it can continue.

Viruses go through 5 stages:
1. They attach to the cell wall (this is easier for it to do if you’re susceptible)
2. They penetrate the cell wall
3. They go into the nucleus and replicate
4. They assemble
5. They are released

Some viruses go dormant and wait until you’re older, weakened, nutritionally deficient, or stressed, and then they come out. This could be why many people get a virus outbreak during stress states. Certain viruses can also activate the release of sugar.

Susceptibility factors:
1. Age
2. Nutritional deficiencies
3. Genetics
4. Weak immune system
5. Chronic disease
6. Stress

Out of all of these factors, you have the most control over the nutrients you get. Getting the right nutrients can also influence your immune system and even stress.

Two things happen when you have nutritional deficiencies:

1. It weakens your immune system
2. It makes viruses stronger

If we take a look at the fatality rate of the coronavirus pandemic and age, the fatality rate is much higher as the age group gets older. For example, people in their 80s and older may have a higher risk of death than people in their 50s and younger. COVID-19 also has a much lower fatality percentage than other viruses like ebola SARS and MERS.

Key nutrients for viruses:

1. Vitamin C
2. Vitamin E
3. Selenium
4. Zinc
5. Vitamin D

Why Does Insulin Cause PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Disease)?

If you have PCOS (polycystic ovarian disease), did you know insulin could be the cause? Check out why.

In this video, we’re going to talk about PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and why insulin may be behind it.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome or polycystic ovarian disease is a condition that occurs in females, which involves having too much androgen. Typically males have more androgens and/or testosterone. Women do naturally have androgens, but not at the same levels. High levels of androgens in women can cause polycystic ovarian syndrome symptoms.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome symptoms:

• Facial hair
• More body hair
• Acne
• Hair loss (a receding hairline)
• Deeper voice
• Irregular cycles or no cycles
• Cysts on the ovaries

I believe insulin causes PCOS with two different mechanisms.

Mechanism #1
The first one involves a hormone from the pituitary called LH. When you increase insulin, you’re going to get a spike in LH, which comes down from the pituitary to the ovaries. Once this hormone connects with the ovaries, it triggers this certain cell called a theca cell, which increases androgens.

Mechanism #2
There is a buffering mechanism in your liver called SHGB. This compound buffers androgens. When you increase insulin, you decrease this compound. Then, you get less buffering and more free testosterone.
