Today we’re going to talk about fasting as a potential natural antidepressant. There are a lot of positive and amazing things that can happen in your body from doing fasting that go way beyond just losing weight and getting rid of your hunger.

I found a fascinating study that involves fasting improving mood. Here are a few things from the study:

1. They found that orexin signaling activity increases. Orexin increases wakefulness, it increases dopamine, and it’s associated with happiness.

2. Fasting can increase endorphin release. Endorphins increase pleasure and decrease pain.

3. Fasting can increase CREB-TF, which signals certain genes that increase serotonin.

4. It could increase BDNF, which can help you grow new brain cells.

Other things you could do to potentially help with depression:
• Fish/cod liver oil (DHA, EPA)
• Vitamin D
• Choline
• Whole eggs
• Curcumin
• High-fat diet

Teresa’s Testimonial

Since a young age Teresa had alcohol problems. She tried to quit many times through different support groups. Even though she was able to stop it, she still didn’t feel happy with herself. She read the book ” Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” and immediately she began practicing the meditations every day. Now after a year and 3 months Teresa has been completely sober. Bonus: she used the meditations to heal from a herniated disks.

• Estrogen is an anabolic hormone. It grows things.

What causes high estrogen in men? It could potentially be because of:

• Soy products

Why Diabetes Makes You More Susceptible to Viruses

Did you know diabetes makes you more susceptible to viruses (like COVID-19)? Find out why.

Timestamps
0:10 COVID-19 and diabetes

1:09 A few additional things to be aware of
3:25 What to do

Today we’re going to talk about why diabetes can make you more susceptible to getting viruses like COVID-19. Being a diabetic actually triples the mortality rate from the COVID-19 virus.

The virus enters the cell through your own body’s receptor. This type of receptor is called the ACE2 receptor. The virus enters and starts to replicate. The more ACE2 receptors you have on your cells, the more susceptible you could be to this virus.

• Diabetics have a lot more ACE2 receptor proteins on their cells.
• People with high blood glucose have more ACE2 receptor proteins on their cells.
• People with higher amounts of insulin have more ACE2 receptor proteins on their cells.

A few additional things to be aware of:

• Insulin resistance can impair your immune response to a virus.

• People with hyperglycemia (high sugar) have a decrease in neutrophils. Neutrophils eat viruses, they release anti-microbial chemicals that kill pathogens, and they use NETS to dissolve microbes with chemicals. If you don’t have enough neutrophils, your immune system is going to be compromised, and your body won’t have the weapons to fight off viruses.

If you have diabetes and you’re concerned about COVID-19 (coronavirus), you may want to consider decreasing your carbs (the healthy keto diet) and intermittent fasting. This could potentially help greatly improve diabetes and help support the immune system.

How Ketones Affect Hormones and the Endocrine System

How do ketones affect your hormones and endocrine system? Watch this detailed video to find out.

PCOS:

Timestamps
0:07 Insulin
1:09 Glucagon
1:39 IGF-1 & GH
3:06 Cortisol
4:21 Thyroid
5:34 Estrogen
6:50 Androgens

In this video, we’re going to talk about how ketones affect hormones and the endocrine system.

1. Insulin
Lowered insulin triggers the production of ketones. When you have high insulin, you can’t get into ketosis. Carbohydrates and frequent eating are what mainly trigger insulin. Lowering your insulin and running your body on ketones can have a lot of health benefits.

2. Glucagon
Glucagon is a hormone that helps mobilize and burn fat. Glucagon is stimulated by a moderate amount of protein, intense exercise, and reduced insulin.

3. IGF-1
This is a hormone that works very similar to growth hormone. IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) mobilizes fat fuel when you’re not eating or when you’re keeping your insulin low. When you eat, IGF-1 goes down, and insulin goes up.

4. Growth hormone
Growth hormone is an anti-aging hormone, it helps make proteins in the body, and it’s a fat-burning hormone.

5. Cortisol
This is an adrenal hormone. If you go through a lot of stress, typically, your cortisol levels will be elevated. This elevated cortisol can eventually lead to a spike in insulin.

6. Thyroid hormones
When you’re on keto, and you start to make ketones, you might see a drop in T3 (the active form of thyroid hormone). This is not a problem because ketones are a much more efficient fuel than glucose, so the thyroid does not have to work as hard. Even though your T3 might be down, you should feel just fine and have lots of energy.

7. Estrogen
Estrogen can increase the sensitivity to insulin. If you have low estrogen levels, you may find that you have more symptoms of insulin resistance. Some women with extra weight after menopause may actually be more estrogen dominant because fat makes estrogen. The healthy keto diet may help.

8. Androgens
A high carb diet can decrease testosterone in the male body. In this situation, you’re running your body more on insulin, and you’re not in ketosis. When you get into ketosis by doing the keto diet, you can enhance testosterone. A high carb diet can actually increase testosterone in a woman’s body, causing hair loss, facial hair, a deep voice, and a gut because of the high insulin.

1:38 The advantages of this coronavirus treatment

Today I want to share some more good coronavirus news. There is another coronavirus treatment out there that’s being investigated. I like this coronavirus treatment. It’s actually been around for a long time. The name of it is convalescent antibody-rich plasma. The word convalescent means that you’re recovering from some type of infection.

With the convalescent antibody-rich plasma treatment, they use plasma from people who have been through the infection and fully recovered.

Plasma is rich in antibodies. People who recovered will have antibodies against COVID-19.

This treatment will actually give you the experience of someone else’s immune system without you having to go through it. It can help protect you. If you’re critically ill, you have antibodies with all of this experience that can help speed up the recovery.

The potential advantages of this therapy are:

• Decreased viral loads (without adverse reactions)
• Normalized body temperature within a few days
• A reduction in mortality rates from 16% to 1% from hemorrhagic fever
• Significantly lower death rates from flu, MERS, SARS, and ebola
• It was used in the Spanish flu of 1918 where it showed a reduced mortality rate of 21% between the years of 1918-1925
• One person donating plasma will be enough to treat 3-4 patients with severe symptoms
