Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

How long will you live? What can you do to extend your life? These are important questions to consider.

Timestamps

0:10 The oldest living people
1:06 Life expectancy in the United States
2:05 Why do women live longer than men?

How long do you think you might live? The oldest person documented lived to be 122 years old. Currently, the oldest living person is a woman living in Japan who is 118 years old. The first fifty people on the list of oldest living people are all women. Women do tend to live longer than men.

On average, in the United States, men live to be 76.1 years old. On average, in the United States, women live to be 81.1 years old.

There are three reasons why women may live longer than men:
1. Women have more estrogen
2. Women have a better immune system
3. Women have a lower production of oxidants

Men need to work twice as hard as women to keep their oxidants low and their antioxidants very high. Personally, I’m actively doing things every day to extend my life. What are you doing to help extend your life? If you’re not sure what to do, check out my other videos.

Today we’re going to talk about what to do at the first sign of a kidney stone.

What are the first signs of a kidney stone?
1. Back pain (usually on one side and could wrap around to the front)
2. Lower abdominal pain or deep dull ache on one side
3. Groin pain
4. Blood in the urine
5. Painful urination
6. Urge to urinate but unable to do so
7. Nausea or vomiting

A kidney stone can develop in the kidney or just outside of the kidney in the duct. There are several types of kidney stones, but the most common is the oxalate stone, which we’re going to focus on.

What you could do if you start noticing symptoms of a kidney stone:
• Drink at least 2.5 liters of fluid
• Drink 1 cup of lemon juice per day
• Take potassium citrate

Foods to avoid (foods high in oxalates):
• Spinach
• Almonds
• Chocolate
• Swiss chard
• Beet tops
• Peanuts

If you consume these foods, here are a few things you could do to help prevent calcium oxalate stones:
• Consume the food with calcium (for example, a spinach salad with cheese)
• Take chondroitin sulfate
• Take berberine
• Take cod liver oil

How Many Carbs Should a Diabetic Eat?

How many carbs should a diabetic consume each day? You may have gotten bad information in the past.

Timestamps
0:00 How many carbs should a diabetic consume?
0:10 What do the experts say?
3:12 What can you do?

How many carbohydrates should a person with diabetes consume on a daily basis? The experts say that 45-60% of your calories should be from carbs. If a person consumes 1800 calories per day, that’s 225g of carbs per day. They also say there is no magic number of carbs a person should consume and that appetite and hunger should play a role.

This is insanity and a recipe for disaster. I believe a person should keep their carbs between twenty and fifty grams per day.

Here are a few things you could do:
• Reduce your carbs (less than 50g per day)
• Stop snacking
• Intermittent fasting (consume two meals a day)
• Increase healthy fats
• Stop consuming so-called “healthy carbs” (fruit, whole grains, brown rice)
• Consume Himalayan sea salt
• Avoid omega-6 fatty acids
• Increase omega-3 fatty acids

In this video, we’re going to talk about the world’s cheapest mental health booster: bird watching.

Bird watching is a great natural mental health booster for…
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Depression

There are three studies done in the UK that showed significant changes in stress, anxiety, and depression after doing several hours of bird watching. Along with lowering stress, they also noticed a huge boost in happiness among the participants.

Bird watching shifts your attention from your stressors and onto something peaceful and beautiful.

Other activities that may have a similar effect include listing to nature sounds outdoors, nature walks, and identifying trees and other plants.

If you’re interested in identifying plants, try the app “Picture This.” The app allows you to take a picture of a plant, and it will tell you all about it. It’s quite fascinating.

Give it a try, and let me know how bird watching affects your mental health.

Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

Are you experiencing signs of diabetes? Check out these home remedies.

0:46 Signs and symptoms of insulin resistance
1:44 What is insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, and diabetes?
5:30 What to do for insulin resistance
7:41 Plants and herbs for insulin resistance

In this video, we’re going to talk about what you would do at the first sign of type 2 diabetes.

What would be the first sign of diabetes? It’s actually not pre-diabetes. It’s something that comes before pre-diabetes—insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance is like a pre-pre-diabetes—one of the first signs or clues of diabetes. If you can catch it at the insulin resistance stage, you can potentially avoid any further progression.

The first indicators of insulin resistance include:
1. Frequent hunger
2. Carbohydrate cravings
3. Not feel satisfied after a meal
4. Urination at night
5. Thirst before bed
6. Feeling tired after eating
7. Belly fat

Take a look at what’s happening when you have insulin resistance. This situation is when the insulin receptors are downgraded, so they don’t receive insulin. This means that the feedback loop to the pancreas is stopped. In turn, the pancreas pumps out more and more insulin, which further contributes to insulin resistance.

When you get to the pre-diabetes stage, you start to lose this pancreatic compensation, and your blood sugars start to go a little too high.

Full-blown diabetes is when you lose more compensation, and your blood sugar levels skyrocket because your insulin levels are low.

When you first have signs of insulin resistance or pre-diabetes, what do they do? They often wait until it turns into diabetes, and then they start treating it with medications and diet changes.

However, many “professionals” think that a healthy diet should allow 225 carbs. This is way too much—especially if you have insulin resistance. It will be virtually impossible to get rid of this situation if you are consuming that number of carbohydrates.

Here’s what you can do for insulin resistance and pre-diabetes:
1. Lower your carbs to less than 50 grams
2. Stop snacking
3. Cut back to 2 meals a day (intermittent fasting)
4. Get plenty of butyrate by consuming vegetables
5. Get plenty of vitamin D
6. Replenish your chromium, vitamin B1, potassium, and magnesium

You can also use some plants and herbs to help support healthy blood sugar and insulin levels. Try using cinnamon, green tea, Gymnema, and berberine.

In this video, we’re going to talk about the mental health benefits of having a pet. Did you know what 96% of pet owners consider their pet as a member of the family?

Research shows three major mental health benefits of having a pet. Pets can…
• Lower stress
• Rid anxiety
• Rid depression symptoms

The reason pets have this effect on people is for five primary reasons. Having a pet can…
1. Lower your cortisol levels – cortisol is known as the “stress hormone”
2. Lower your blood pressure levels
3. Increase your levels of oxytocin – this can improve your sense of wellbeing and support pregnant mothers
4. Increase endorphins – this helps minimize discomfort and maximize pleasure
5. Boost dopamine – this is a pleasure hormone that helps decrease stress and anxiety

Let me know in the comments below if you feel that your pet has improved your mental health.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do at the first sign of dementia.

What are the first signs of dementia? They can be:
1. A loss of spatial navigation (like forgetting where you parked your car)
2. Difficulty finding the right words
3. Confusion
4. Repeating yourself

Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are situations where your neurons cannot get fuel anymore—specifically glucose. This can happen if you have insulin resistance.

If you have ketones and glucose in your blood at the same time, your brain will prefer ketones and use them first. Ketones are the byproduct of fat burning. Rarely does anyone run their body on ketones.

The first thing you want to do if you are experiencing dementia symptoms is to start feeding your brain ketones. This will help bypass the degraded glucose absorption mechanism that is starving your brain of fuel and begin to feed the neurons directly.

There are three ways you can increase your ketones:
1. Lower your carbs
2. Do intermittent fasting
3. Supply your body with healthy fats, like MCT oil and fatty fish

DHA, zinc, and vitamin B1 are other important nutrients for supporting a healthy brain. Exercise and sleep are also vital to healthy brain function.

The first question is, what are the first signs of covid? The symptoms may include:
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Fever
• Loss of smell
• Persistent cough
• Sore throat

If you have any of these symptoms, you should know that they are actually being caused by your own immune response called cytokines. Cytokines are a part of your first defense against pathogens.

The serious complications of coronavirus are a result of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is caused by insulin resistance.

When you begin to experience symptoms of covid-19, here’s what you can do:

1. Start on a healthy keto diet and intermittent fasting. This will help support a healthy immune system.

2. Get plenty of vitamin D3 (up to 30,000 IUs)

3. Take zinc (225 mg)

4. Get plenty of vitamin C (500 mg)

5. Lower your stress levels

6. Increase your sleep

7. Heat your body (frequent hot showers and warm blankets)

Today I’m going to give you a few tips on your New Year’s resolution. Most people, at the beginning of the year, have a weight loss goal. I’m going to recommend that you change your goal to having more health. Weight loss is a byproduct of getting healthy.

Keep in mind that you don’t want to be too serious when you’re trying to achieve your goals. You may be more successful if you have a carefree attitude. Be positive and certain about it, but not too serious.

When you come up with your goals, include things that relate to health, such as:
• Your energy level

Vitamin K1 vs K2: What’s the Difference?

3:30 More on vitamin K1 vs. vitamin K2

Today I want to cover the differences between vitamin K1 and vitamin K2.

Vitamin K1:
• Has everything to do with blood clotting and bone metabolism
• If you’re deficient, you may have bruising, you may have trouble with blood clotting, or you may have bleeding gums
• Without vitamin K1, you could bleed to death
• It’s unlikely for someone to be deficient in vitamin K1
• You get vitamin K1 primarily from plant sources, but it’s in animal products as well
• Vitamin K1 in plants is poorly absorbed, but the body recycles vitamin K1
• Oil like olive oil, on a salad, for example, can help with the absorption of vitamin K1
• Blood thinners like Warfarin can cause a deficiency in vitamin K1

Vitamin K2:
• Has everything to do with calcium control and bone strength
• It’s primarily in animal products (like animal fat) and fermented foods (like natto and sauerkraut)
• A few examples of foods rich in vitamin K1 are beef or pork liver, pork, chicken, beef, egg yolks, and soft cheeses
• Vitamin K2 is much better absorbed than vitamin K1 because it comes with fat
• The bacteria in your colon can make vitamin K1 from vitamin K2
• You could become deficient if you’re on a low-fat diet, you have inflammation in your gut, you had your gallbladder removed, or you have a fatty liver or a damaged liver

Why Does a Fatty Liver Triggers Arthritis?

In this video, we’re going to talk about why people with a fatty liver often get arthritis. What is the connection between these two conditions?

There are different stages of liver damage: fatty liver, fatty liver with inflammation, and cirrhosis.

Arthritis is inflammation in your joints. How does the inflammation get from the liver to the joints?

There are several mechanisms in play here. Liver fat creates cytokines, which are proteins that cause inflammation. The particular cytokines that liver fat produces increases systemic inflammation—or inflammation throughout your body.

These cytokines released by liver fat are why you can get inflammation in your joints and arthritis when you have liver disease.

To make things worse, cytokines can worsen insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes getting rid of fat very difficult and increases even more systemic inflammation. This is a feedback loop that gets worse and worse.

When the liver is inflamed and filled with scar tissue, bile gets stuck. In turn, this can cause even more inflammation in the body and nutrient deficiencies.

7:22 Need keto consulting?

In this video, we’re going to talk about hypoglycemia without symptoms.

Let’s say that you notice that your blood sugars are very low, but you feel fine. This situation often occurs when you’re doing the ketogenic diet, or you’re fasting.

The definition of hypoglycemia is less than 70 for diabetics and less than 54 for non-diabetics.

When you start keto, and you aren’t eating large amounts of carbs anymore, your body will begin to burn ketones and fats. Your body will no longer depend on glucose. This means that the amount of glucose you need is far less than those not on a keto diet. In turn, your blood sugar levels can drop as low as 54 or even 45 without any symptoms.

The question is, are low blood sugars on keto dangerous? The answer is: it depends on if you have true hypoglycemia or if your blood sugars are at a normal level for being on keto.

If you experience hypoglycemia symptoms on keto, this is an indicator that you are in a true hypoglycemic state. These symptoms include:
• Trouble talking
• Confusion
• Irritability
• Hunger
• Cravings
• Sweating
• Shaking
• Fainting
• Vision problems
• Headaches

If you are experiencing hypoglycemic symptoms without low blood sugars, this could be idiopathic (unknown cause) hypoglycemia. This is most often a problem with your insulin receptors. When you have chronic high insulin levels (hyperinsulinemia), your insulin receptors become downgraded and begin to resist insulin, which is known as insulin resistance.

There’s also something called reactive hypoglycemia. This is related to low blood sugars 2-4 hours after a meal (often high in carbs).

The best remedy for hypoglycemia is to go on a low-carb ketogenic diet and gradually introduce fasting into your plan.

In this video, we’re going to talk about foods that look like certain body parts. Not only that, but these foods actually have properties that support that body part. Take a look.

1. Walnuts look like your brain. Walnuts happen to be very high in ALA, which is converted into omega-3 fatty acids, which are incredibly important for your brain health. Walnuts also contain melatonin, which also helps support a healthy brain.

2. Kidney beans look like your kidneys. Kidney beans contain arginine, an amino acid that can detoxify ammonia from your kidneys and your liver.

3. Tomatoes look like your heart. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is known to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.

4. Broccoli looks similar to cancer. Broccoli contains sulforaphane, which targets cancer cells and helps eliminate them.

Even though I don’t think all of these foods are ideal on a healthy keto diet, I hope you found these health benefits interesting.

In this video, we’re going to talk about yacon syrup and why it is definitely not keto-friendly!

Though certain people will say that you can have it on keto and that it will help you lose weight, they are way off with this one.

Yacon syrup is extracted from the roots of the yacon plants in Peru.

50% of yacon is made up of FOS, or fructooligosaccharide, which is a prebiotic fiber. If you use yacon and you have any problem with candida, SIBO, leaky gut, or any gut inflammation, you’re going to feel bloated.

30% of yacon is fructose sugar. Fructose can overwhelm the liver and lead to insulin resistance and a fatty liver.

There was a study that showed that yacon could help you lose weight. However, this was based on a low-fat/low-calorie diet, which I do not endorse.

Overall, yacon will spike your blood sugars enough to throw your body out of ketosis and stop fat burning. There are better sweetener alternatives, like allulose—try this instead.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do if you have terrible sugar cravings.

If you’re having sugar cravings and you’re not on keto, get on a healthy keto diet. This will make a HUGE difference in your cravings.

However, if you’re on keto and you’re still experiencing sugar cravings, we should take a deeper look at what might be happening.

When you’re in ketosis, your cravings for sugar naturally go down. So if they aren’t, this may mean that a medication you’re taking is causing sugar cravings or that you’re not fully in ketosis. Antibiotics, stress, and a lack of sleep can cause your blood sugars to skyrockets, which will make you crave more sugar.

First, you want to make sure that you’re keeping your carbs between 20 and 50 grams per day. If your carbs are higher than 50 grams, you might be kicking your body out of ketosis, which will cause a lot of sugar cravings.

Avoid all sugars. Instead, you should primarily be getting your carbs from berries and nuts.

Second, you want to cut down the frequency of your meals. The more often you eat, the more you’re going to experience insulin spikes, which can cause sugar cravings.

Finally, you want to get plenty of vegetables in your diet. Vegetables will help give you the nutrients you need to fight off sugar cravings.

Additionally, you want to do intermittent fasting. This will help fight off all cravings by keeping insulin levels low.

What Really Causes Costochondritis (Costosternal Syndrome)

2:45 Potential remedies for costochondritis

Today we’re going to talk about costochondritis. What is this condition, and how do you get rid of it? 30% of chest pain related visits to the ER end up being because of costochondritis.

Costochondritis is also called costosternal syndrome. With this condition, there’s pain and tenderness upon palpation. In most cases, a cause can’t be identified unless there’s trauma. But, what if there’s no trauma, no lung infection, and the person doesn’t have shingles? What’s going on?

Two potential causes of costochondritis:

1. Low vitamin D

2. A problem with the liver or gallbladder

It’s important to note that if the pain is on the left side, that could potentially relate to your heart. But what if you get that checked out and it’s not connected to the heart? Even pain on the left side could potentially be related to the pancreas. Both pain on the right side and left side could easily be connected to a problem with digestion.

Potential natural remedies for costochondritis (related to the liver, gallbladder, or pancreas):
• Take betaine hydrochloride (3-5 before you eat)
• Take purified bile salts (on an empty stomach in the morning, after lunch, and in the afternoon)

Talk to your doctor before taking anything new, and rule out other problems like heart issues before trying to self-diagnose. If nothing else seems to help and you can’t find anything wrong, you may want to look at a vitamin D deficiency or a problem with the liver or gallbladder.

In this video, we’re going to talk about 7 common headache triggers.

Now, the difference between headaches and migraine headaches is that migraines are often more severe and have other symptoms, including:
• Nausea
• Blurred vision
• Seeing spots
• Light sensitivity
• Sound sensitivity
• Vomiting
• Having some type of sensation or aura before the headache

Headaches often have triggers. These are the 7 most common triggers you have. Try eliminating these to see if your headaches go away.

1. Stress
2. Food and drink allergies and sensitivities
3. Environment (seasonal allergies, weather changes, etc.)
4. Hormones
5. Lack of sleep
6. Gallbladder sludge and gut problems
7. Medications (even over-the-counter)

Foods and drinks that may trigger headaches include:
• Any food you’re allergic to
• Caffeinated beverages
• Artificial sweeteners
• Alcohol (especially wine)
• Chocolate
• MSG
• Cured meats (nitrates)
• Aged cheeses
• Pickled foods and fermented foods (tyramine)

Try to think of what happened before you got your headache. Did you consume something a few hours before? Were there any changes in your environment? Did you experience stress? These questions will help you narrow down the primary triggers of your headache, so you can avoid them. Let me know in the comments below if these tips helped you avoid headache triggers.

Consider these pros and cons before taking liposomal vitamins!

In this video, I’m going to talk about my opinion of liposomal vitamins. I’m also going to talk about what they are so you have a full understanding of what they do.

Liposomal vitamins are vitamins that are carried deeper inside the body using something called liposomes. Liposomes are spherical sacks of phospholipid molecules that enclose a vitamin (or drug). There are multiple sizes of these liposomes. The smaller the size, the higher the quality. Make sure they are certified.

Let’s talk about the pros and cons. Take a look.

Pros:
• Increased absorption by 4-9x

Cons
• Very expensive
• Macrophages can break them down
• Many use synthetic vitamins (some from GMO sources)

Always ask about the source of the vitamins, so you know if they are synthetic or natural.

In summary, liposomal vitamins can be good if they are a high-quality product. However, high-quality liposomal supplements are often very pricy compared to other supplements.

Can We Live Without a Complete Liver?

Gut and Liver function:

How much liver can we actually live without? Find out.

Timestamps
0:00 Do you need your entire liver?
0:35 Can you eat whatever you want?
2:20 Tips to maintain liver function

How much liver does a person need to function normally and maintain normal liver function? You actually only need 25% of your liver to maintain normal function. The liver is very robust. Apparently, we can live without about 75% of the liver if necessary. However, of course, this isn’t ideal.

You might think you can eat whatever you want since you don’t need all of your liver to survive. However, pushing the limits could lead to needing a liver transplant or needing a living liver donation. Both of these options come with many hurdles and potential side effects.

However, if a person gets a new liver and the liver is not rejected by the body, it can actually regenerate at an accelerated rate. The liver is the only visceral organ that can regenerate.

Tips to help maintain liver function:
• Avoid triggers that can cause liver damage
• Establish a new eating plan (the healthy keto liver body type plan)
• Do intermittent fasting
• Take key nutrients (vitamin D, tocotrienols, bile salts, and probiotics)
