Does taking too much calcium lead to kidney stones? We’re going to explore this topic in this video.

Studies show that taking around 500mg of calcium carbonate will increase your risk of developing kidney stones. Massive doses of vitamin D over many months can also cause hypercalcemia, which can contribute to kidney stones. However, neither of these are the primary causes of kidney stones.

The most common reasons for kidney stones are:

1. Kidney damage – years of bad dieting can cause poor kidney function. Try a healthy keto diet.

2. Excess oxalates – avoid oxalate-rich foods, including almonds, spinach, swiss chard, and chocolate.

3. Low citrates – take citrates or lemon juice.

4. Low fluid – stay hydrated! At least 2.5 liters each day.

5. Poor microbiome – improve your microbiome with probiotics and prebiotics (fiber).

6. Low bile – take purified bile salts if you have low bile or a missing gallbladder.

Are you getting plenty of electrolytes, and you still experience cramping? In this video, I’m going to talk about the possible reason behind this problem and how to fix it.

Potassium, magnesium, and sea salt will usually fix cramps.
If these electrolytes are not the problem, you could also be low in one of these nutrients:
• Vitamin D – helps night cramps
• Vitamin E – helps cramps due to muscle weakness
• Vitamin B1 – helps cramps due to restless legs syndrome

If none of these nutrients helps with your cramps, it’s likely to be alkalosis.

Alkalosis is when your pH level is too alkaline (as opposed to acidic). You need just the right pH to mobilize electrolytes. Alkalosis can cause cramping, tremors, and twitching.

High stress and carbohydrates can cause alkalosis.

The best remedies for this problem are:
• Apple cider vinegar
• Pickle juice
• Kombucha tea

By now, you know the toxic effects of alcohol on the liver. In this video, I want to talk about the toxic effects of alcohol on your heart. It turns out that your heart cells hate alcohol.

Alcoholic heart muscle disease is a condition characterized by a dysfunction heart due to chronic alcohol consumption.

Alcohol will create several problems with heart tissue.

1. Acetaldehyde accumulation – This is a toxic compound that damages your heart and liver. It’s also responsible for the hangover feeling you get after excessive drinking.

2. Decreased protein synthesis – The heart is made out of muscle, and it needs protein to rejuvenate.

3. Dilated chambers – You have four chambers in the heart. Alcohol can cause them to become irregular and cause arrhythmia and murmurs and other heart issues.

4. Increased inflammation – Inflammation in the heart leads to calcium and cholesterol buildup, and fibrosis of the heart tissue. Over time, this leads to heart disease.

5. Deceased ejection fraction and contractibility – The heart’s ability to contract and pump blood throughout the body becomes impaired.

6. Reduced anti-apoptosis pathway – This causes an increase in cells that die in the heart.

7. Increased calcium in cells – Too much calcium inside the cell, causing numerous cellular issues in your heart cells.

I know some of you are curious about how much alcohol is too much. Can you have a glass of red wine every day? Isn’t red wine good for the heart? While there are some compounds in wine that promote heart health, exposure to ethanol is a problem.

If you could stick to just half a glass of wine, you’ll see some benefits. However, very few people can stop at that much.

If you want to support your recovery after drinking wine occasionally, you can do keto. The heart loves ketones and prefers fat fuel over glucose.

The heart also loves omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E. Make sure you use natural vitamin E instead of synthetic.

Today we’re going to talk about why snacking while on keto is not a good idea. There are so many different kinds of keto snacks available now, like protein bars, keto bombs, and much more. But, these keto snacks can actually decrease your results significantly. You’re going to plateau. 

The goal of keto is to decrease and normalize insulin. Every time you eat anything of significant calories, you will spike insulin. So, the more frequent the meals, the more insulin you’re going to have, and the less progress you’re going to make with weight loss and your overall health. 

Low-calorie foods like vegetables won’t spike insulin too much, especially if it’s filled with fiber, like leafy greens. So, this could be an exception. 

Let’s say you’re doing intermittent fasting, and your first meal is at 12 pm, and your next meal is at 7 pm. But, you have a snack in between because this time is technically your eating window. I don’t recommend doing this. I don’t recommend eating anything during the day except for during your first meal and second meal. So, after 7 pm, you would fast again until 12 pm the next day. To really see some significant changes, you may want to work up to an 18 hour fast. However, some people may need to go up to 20 hours or even 23 hours of fasting. 

A lot of keto snacks and keto bombs are okay to have, but you should only eat them with your meal.

In this video, we’re going to talk about the 11 benefits of lecithin. Lecithin is a fat-like substance found in all of your cells.

In Greek, lecithin translates to “yolk.” Interestingly, it’s primarily found in egg yolk. One egg contains 3,362mg of lecithin.

2.5 oz of beef contains 466mg, 1/2 cup of cauliflower contains 107mg, and 1oz of peanuts contains 105mg of lecithin. Organ meats also provide a good amount of lecithin.

Lecithin is common in baking products, chocolate, and other ingredients. The problem is that this form of lecithin is derived from soy. The majority of soy is GMO—which you want to eliminate from your diet. At the very least, make sure your sources of lecithin are organic.

Today I want to cover the potential complications of having your gallbladder removed. Some people believe that a person doesn’t really need their gallbladder, so there’s not going to be any complications. However, over 700,000 surgeries are done every year to remove the gallbladder, and 40% of people who have their gallbladder removed have complications. 

Bile is made by your liver, it drains through a tube, and is stored in the gallbladder. When you eat, you need less bile to digest food because it’s very concentrated. Without a gallbladder, all you have is a tube from your liver to the small intestines, and the bile trickles, but it’s not concentrated. 

Typically, the complications from not having a gallbladder have to do with a lack of bile. There are exceptions, but in this video, I want to talk about the symptoms that occur because of a lack of bile. Bile is like a detergent. It is both water-soluble and fat-soluble. Bile breaks down fats into smaller particles to allow the pancreas to release an enzyme to make it easier to digest and absorb it in the intestine. 

Potential complications of having your gallbladder removed:
1. You can’t digest fats 
2. Constipation 
3. Diarrhea 
4. Gas
5. Bloating 
6. Stomach pain 
7. Yellow skin or eyes
8. Hypothyroid symptoms 
9. Right shoulder tightness 
10. Tightness under the right ribcage 
11. Dry eyes and skin 
12. Vision changes

In this video, we’re going to talk about why cod liver oil can help you if you have eczema.

Eczema is a condition where you have red, scaly, flaky, or rashy skin. This condition is also known as atopic dermatitis. Psoriasis is a part of the same family as eczema.

Cod liver oil is the best remedy for nearly all skin conditions—especially eczema.

Cod liver oil contains three powerful nutrients:

1. Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA)

2. Vitamin A

3. Vitamin D

One common symptom of low vitamin A is follicular hyperkeratosis. This is a condition where you have small brown or red hair follicles on your arms and/or back. Another symptom of low vitamin A is xerosis. This is when you have dried-out skin with fine wrinkles or a scaly appearance.

When comparing different kinds of nuts, you can see that certain nuts are way more of a fat than a protein, but there is some protein. Many people also don’t realize that nuts have carbs as well, it’s low, but there are some carbs, and they can add up. 

All of these nuts that we are going to look at today can fit into the keto diet. However, if you’re trying to lose weight, you might not want to go crazy eating pistachios because they’re higher in carbs. But, if you want to gain weight while still being on a keto diet, pistachios might be a good type of nut to focus on. If you want to lose weight, macadamia nuts may be a better choice. Pecans are low in oxalates, while almonds are higher in oxalates. So, if you’re prone to kidney stones, you may want to avoid almonds.

In this video, I want to talk to you about how fasting affects your body. I’ve created a lot of videos on intermittent fasting. But in this one, I want to give you an overview of just how powerful it really is.

Brain – Fasting stimulates BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). This stuff is like Miracle Grow for the brain. BDNF helps repair and regenerate neurons. Fasting also helps with stress resistance, neurogenesis, mitochondrial production, and reducing inflammation.

Liver – Intermittent fasting helps improve your liver by restoring insulin sensitivity. Fasting also helps your liver function by detoxifying the body, acting as an antioxidant, reducing fatty liver, and lowering inflammation.

Gut – Intermittent fasting helps improve the diversity of your gut microbes. It also helps reduce the inflammation in your gut that contributes to leaky gut syndrome. Additionally, fasting helps prevent SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth).

Immunity – Fasting improves your immunity. It helps you become immune to pathogens by increasing the strength, size, and quality of white blood cells. Prolonged fasts (72+ hours) help produce stem cells—which basically helps you grow a new and stronger immune system.

Pancreas – The effects of fasting on your pancreas are huge. When you’re eating 3-6 meals a day, you are constantly triggering insulin. This creates damage to the cells in your pancreas. When you fast, you give your pancreatic cells a chance to heal and regenerate. In turn, this helps restore insulin sensitivity.

Fat – Fasting helps break down fat and get rid of fat cells. You also start generating ketones, which are a great source of energy. Intermittent fasting helps respire leptin sensitivity, which helps reduce inflammation and hunger.

Muscle – Fasting helps you restore insulin sensitivity, which also helps your ability to create muscle. Fasting also causes your muscles to go into a state where they stop breaking down—it prevents protein loss.

Heart – Fasting helps trigger the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation mode), which is the opposite of the sympathetic nervous system (stress mode). This helps with normalizing blood pressure levels and heart rate. Fasting also helps with heart rate variability.

In this video, I want to talk about the difference between fasting and starving. When does fasting become starvation?

You first need to know that the average non-overweight person is carrying around 100,000 calories of fat on their body. They are only carrying about 1,700 calories of stored sugar.

If you weighed 150 lbs, you would burn around 1,000-2,000 calories per day. This means that you have around 67 days worth of calories stored on your body.

The difference between fasting and starving is that with fasting, you’re living off of your fat fuel. When you’re starving, you’ve already used up all of your fat fuel, and you begin burning your muscle and organs for fuel.

If you have 100-200 lbs of extra fat, you have many calories stored.

The effects of fasting and starving are different. When you’re fasting, you don’t feel hungry—when you’re starving, you do.

When you’re starving, you also feel irritable, apathetic, fatigued, and weak. You also develop nutrient deficiencies when you’re starving.

Fasting helps you feel energetic, focus, and calm. Intermittent fasting alone will not cause starvation.

While you’re fasting, make sure you take nutrients, so you don’t develop a deficiency.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do for ADHD. ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

First, I want to start off by saying that ADHD is not genetic—there’s no evidence that says it is. In fact, it’s also not a Ritalin deficiency. From my viewpoint, it’s not even a mental disease—it’s purely a nutritional deficiency.

Symptoms of ADHD include:
• Inability to focus/pay attention
• Hyperactivity
• Restlessness
• Visual learning problems
• Difficulty reading
• Poor memory

A 12-week double-blind placebo-controlled trial showed significant improvements in the behavior of children with ADHD when given high doses of EPA and DHA (750mg) daily.

If you have ADHD, (EPA and DHA) can help. You especially want to take EPA.

EPA and DHA are omega-3 fatty acids. You have omega-3s, and you have omega-6s. Your body cannot make these—you have to get them from your diet.

The problem is, you need more omega-3s and less omega-6s. Omega-3s are far more important. However, the average person consumes 16x more omega-6s.

Omega-3s have antipsychotic properties, improve your cognition, and boost your IQ. They also help with brain development. Omega-3s can improve levels of dopamine and serotonin. They have neuron-protecting powers.

Vitamin B1 can also help your child with restlessness and hyperactivity. Nutritional yeast is a great source of B vitamins.

You can try taking 750 mg of omega-3s EPA/DHA, reduce your intake of omega-6s, and increase vitamin B1 for ADHD.

The number one sign that your child is eating too much sugar is moodiness. Changes with their mood like grouchiness, irritability, and whining may be happening because they’re consuming too much sugar. 

Popular foods for kids that have hidden sugar:
• Orange juice
• Apple sauce 
• Fruit juice
• Fruit snacks
• Granola bars 
• Vitamin water
• Mac’ n’ cheese

Moodiness can be the first symptom, because what happens is the blood sugars go up, insulin kicks in and pushes the blood sugars down, and now they have low blood sugar. Moodiness is a symptom of low blood sugar. 

Sugar, in general, interferes with different parts of the brain and the production of certain neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters calm the nervous system. 

Sugar blocks the absorption of vitamin C. In the presence of sugar, the body can’t absorb vitamin C. Vitamin C is necessary to make neurotransmitters. 

Sugar also depletes zinc, vitamin B1, potassium, and magnesium. All of these are key minerals and vitamins that help calm a child down. 

When a child is consuming too much sugar, they could:
• Be hyperactive
• Have attention deficit problems
• Have a difficult time learning, studying, and retaining information

If your child has any mood issues, you may want to check their blood sugars first. It may also be beneficial to get them on a special eating plan called healthy keto. If you do this, I think you’ll notice a huge change in your child’s mood, ability to focus, and self-control.

In this video, I’m going to give you some tips on what to do if your child is a picky eater.

If your child only consumes savory snacks, sugary cereals, french fries, mac and cheese, cheese sticks, frozen waffles, and packaged foods, and avoids vegetables, fish, and meats, then this video is for you!

Picky eating is most often due to nutritional deficiencies. The best situation is to start your kids out on healthy, nutritious foods from birth to ensure no nutritional deficiencies. However, at a certain age, it is often very difficult to get your child to consume the right foods.

A zinc deficiency is common among children. Zinc affects your child’s ability to smell and taste. Consuming refined carbs and sugars will create a zinc deficiency.

MSG and modified food starch affect your child’s appetite. If they are consuming any of the foods I mentioned earlier, then they are likely consuming a lot of MSG and modified food starch. In turn, this increases appetite and insulin. Always avoid MSG.

If your child is lacking DHA or vitamin B1, they are likely to have problems with their mood and behavior—especially anger.

If a child has enough B1, they are going to be calm—they won’t feel restless, and they’ll have more self-control.

Refined carbs and sugars can create vitamin B1 and DHA deficiency.

You should find healthy keto substitutes for high-carb and high-sugar foods. Make the transition from unhealthy junk foods to healthy keto foods. Instead of telling your child that they can’t have those foods, find a healthy substitute.

You can also get your child to make the recipes with you. My wife has done this with my children for many years, and this works great—they enjoy cooking healthy foods.

It can take some time to transition to healthier food options. While you’re doing the transition, it can help to take supplements for any nutrient deficiencies. This will help rebalance their body chemistry and make it easier to come off of junk foods.

In this video, I’m going to talk about why you want to always fast during an infection.

Fasting is a powerful tool—it delays aging, and it can even extend your lifespan. It also has powerful immune system effects.

When you get sick, you often lose your appetite. This is your body’s natural way to boost your immunity.

Ketones have profound protective properties, including antimicrobial effects.

When you fast, you also increase the survival of your T-cells and B-cells. T-cells run the immune system, kill microbes, and reduce inflammation. B-cells have to do with making antibodies, which have a “memory” to better fight off future infections.

T-helper cells are also boosted when you fast. These cells coordinate all other immune actions—like the general of the army.

If you fast long enough, you induce autophagy. Autophagy is when your body starts to clean up old, damaged cells and recycles them. Autophagy also helps control viral infections, decrease inflammation, and presenting antigens.

A 3-day fast can have profound effects on your immune system. You will trigger the stem cells that regenerate the immune system.

Continue taking vitamins and minerals while you fast—especially vitamin D. You can also take oregano oil, garlic, and olive leaf extract to boost your immunity.

Today we’re going to talk about endurance exercise and your heart. If you do endurance exercise, you need to get the book “The Haywire Heart” by Chris Case and John Mandrola. 

About one-third of marathoners experience dilated ventricles. It seems that many athletes develop dilated ventricles or enlarged ventricles on one side. There are even indications of heart muscle damage and cardiac fibrosis. Another problem that can occur is called ventricular tachycardia. 

The authors talk about how doing sustained endurance exercise for over 1 hour every day, five days a week, could cause issues. This could cause structural and functional changes within the heart.  

The heart is becoming stronger and more efficient, and the heart rate actually comes down. The heart rate can even come down from a normal heart rate of around 72 to 50 or even down to 30. The heart doesn’t have to work that hard, so everything is very slow. 

What can happen:
• Low heart rate 
• You can get cardiomegaly/hypertrophy (the heart can get bigger)
• Extra beats (PAC or PVC)

What you could do:
• Cut back on the exercise 
• Try interval training

Always Fast 12 Hours Before Your Cholesterol Test

In this short video, I want to talk about the new cholesterol test guidelines, and why you should fast before a cholesterol test. 

In the past, it was required to fast for twelve hours before your cholesterol test. Now, you don’t have to fast. They now say that you can eat before your test because:

1. Eating doesn’t affect cholesterol that much.
2. It’s less hassle for the patient, doctor, and lab.

I think this is bad advice. When you eat before the test, you’re adding in so many different variables that could affect your cholesterol.

If you’re on keto, you’re consuming more fat. The fat in your blood (triglycerides) will go up if you consume fat in your meal. This can alter the test, and it won’t give you a consistent baseline when you test over time. The lipids in your blood will change depending on what you eat. 

I think it may be best to always do at least a twelve-hour fast before you get your cholesterol test.
