Inflammation Videos:

Are you doing keto and intermittent fasting, but your blood sugar levels are still high? This could be why.

Timestamps
0:00 High blood sugar levels
0:10 Where is the sugar coming from?
1:09 Insulin resistance
1:56 What to do for insulin resistance

Do you have high blood sugar levels even though you’re not consuming dietary sugar? Today we’re going to talk about why this could be happening.

In this situation, the sugar is actually coming from your liver and kidneys. There is something called gluconeogenesis, which is the formation of new sugar. Your body always needs a very small amount of sugar, but your body can make this sugar out of non-carbohydrate sources. It can make it out of fat, protein, and even ketones. Insulin controls this process. It’s supposed to turn off gluconeogenesis.

When you have high blood sugar, but you’re not consuming any sugar, this could mean that you have very low amounts of insulin in your body. Your insulin may actually be too low. Insulin resistance is a condition that can cause you to not have enough insulin.

With insulin resistance, you have high levels of insulin, but that insulin is not working in the body, and it’s not shutting down gluconeogenesis. It may be best to focus on improving insulin resistance.

How to help improve insulin resistance:
• Exercise more
• Increase your fasting
• Increase your fiber (vegetable fiber)
• Apple cider vinegar
• Vitamin D
• Chromium
• Zinc
• B vitamins (nutritional yeast)
• Potassium
• Magnesium
• Get more sleep
• Decrease inflammation
• Give it more time
• Focus on other improvements

In this short video, we’re going to talk about three things you can do if you have allergies.

T regulatory cells (Tregs) are a part of your immune system. They control the development of autoimmune conditions and prevent the development of allergies. There are three important things that can strengthen the T regulatory cells.

3 important remedies for allergies:
1. Probiotics
• Always take a small amount in the beginning, and take it before bed. You can then take more, see how you respond, and continue this until you get to the right dosage.

2. Fasting
• Do intermittent fasting on a regular basis, as well as periodic prolonged fasting.

3. Vitamin D
• You may want to take 10,000 IUs to 20,000 IUs of vitamin D per day. You may notice fewer allergy symptoms after a few weeks. Vitamin D may also help with asthma.

In this video, we’re going to talk with Joseph Golisano about his incredible keto transformation.

Before Joseph found keto, he had a challenging time losing weight. No matter what he did—cutting out junk food, eating chicken, fish, and salads, nothing worked.

Joseph built a gym in his basement and religiously exercised six days each week and still didn’t see any results.

After 18 years of dieting and exercising with no results, Joseph found the Dr. Berg YouTube channel. Within his first week, he began to actually lose weight.

Every week after, he consistently lost weight. After ten months, he lost 80 pounds. After 14 months, he had lost a whopping 100 pounds. How incredible?

Joseph’s wife also lost 97 pounds.

Joseph feels and looks better than ever. He was able to cut out medications and normalize his blood pressure.

Within a year and a half, he went from 242.5 lbs (at 5′ 5″) to 133 lbs on keto. If that doesn’t show the power of the healthy keto diet, I don’t know what does.

In this video, we’re going to talk about the best nutrient for improved thinking.

This nutrient is choline. Choline used to be considered a B vitamin. It’s a lemon-tasting vitamin that your body requires. Choline is a vital building block for acetylcholine, which is a primary building block for your brain. It has an influence on:
• New memories
• Reasoning
• Concentration
• Cognition
• Sleep
• Growing synapses
• Coordinating movement (both speed and accuracy)

Signs of low levels of choline include:
• Brain fog
• ADD
• Brain fatigue
• Decreased learning
• Memory loss
• Poor recall
• Feeling distracted
• Irritability

The best dietary sources of choline are:
• Beef liver
• Shrimp
• Eggs
• Scallops
• Leafy greens

If you start adding choline to your diet and you’re still experiencing symptoms, it may be an issue with your overall diet. Your entire diet has to improve to experience the full benefits of choline. Intermittent fasting and the Healthy Keto diet are the best ways to support a healthy body. Check out my other videos on this channel for more information on healthy ketosis.

In this video, we’re going to talk about what you need to know about diabetes, medications, and the keto diet.

If you’re someone who is on medications for diabetes and you want to start keto, you may be curious as to what will happen when you go into ketosis. Will your medication needs change?

First, I’d like to say that you should always talk to your doctor and get their approval for any changes to your medications. Medical doctors are trained to adjust your medications as needed.

Type 2 diabetes is a problem of high sugars in the blood. Medications address this issue. The problem is, when you lower your carbs, your need for these medications may go down. This is because cutting out carbs will lower your blood sugar levels.

Without making adjustments, you may run into a hypoglycemic situation.

If you’re starting keto, continue to check in with your doctor as well as test your blood sugar levels frequently. This will give you indications of low or high blood sugars.

For some people, blood sugar levels on keto go down pretty quickly. For others, it can take a lot of time—it depends on how bad your diabetes is and how your body responds to keto.

If your blood sugars are low or normal, should you still take blood sugar medications? This is something you’re going to want to check with your doctor on. In my opinion, the answer is no.

In summary, if you’re a diabetic on keto, you should test your blood sugars and consult your doctor frequently so they can make changes to your medications as needed.

Does 600 IUs of Vitamin D Even Come Close to What We Need?

In this video, we’re going to talk about vitamin D. In particular, I want to answer a question that one of my viewers had. The question was, “Is 600 IUs of vitamin D enough? I was told that’s all I need.”

The answer is… Absolutely not!

Let’s start by talking about where you get vitamin D from.

You get vitamin D from the sun. When your skin is exposed to the sun, your body turns cholesterol into an inactive form of vitamin D. From there, it is converted into the active form of vitamin D.

In the summer, you will get far more vitamin D than in the winter. However, the amount of vitamin D your body produces is heavily reliant on your latitude. If you’re in a warm climate, you will likely have more exposure to the sun. Those who live in the northern hemisphere are very likely to have lower levels of vitamin D.

Vitamin D levels also depend on how much you go outside, your skin color, your age, whether or not you are exposing enough skin or wearing sunscreen, how heavy you are, etc…

So, if you don’t get enough vitamin D from sunlight, can’t you just get it from food?

Vitamin D isn’t in a lot of food. Even in foods that are relatively high in vitamin D, it’s not enough to supply you with the amount of vitamin D you need to support a healthy body.

If you have inflammation in your gut, you also won’t be able to absorb enough vitamin D from food to support your health. Viruses, health problems, and genetics can also influence vitamin D absorption.

My opinion is that 10,000 IUs is ideal for maintaining vitamin D levels.

Fasting Influence on Your Genes: https://youtu.be/IFjlQ6kkJQ4

Eating too frequently goes against the very programming of our genetics. It’s anti-survival.

Timestamps

1:45 Frequent eating is anti-survival

When some people are first introduced to fasting, they may think it’s anti-survival. However, frequent eating is actually anti-survival.

Many wild animals do not eat all day long. Domestic animals that are fed too frequently tend to be overweight. In the wild, fat animals typically have a fat layer around them to survive in cold temperatures. They don’t have visceral fat (fat around the organs) like humans do.

Humans are very similar to animals in regards to fasting. Only in the past 10,000 years, when there was the agricultural revolution, did humans start having problems with chronic disease. Now, we have access to food anytime we want. There is a deadly combination of available foods and cravings for those available foods.

From an evolutionary standpoint, our bodies were designed to eat less frequently. For example, we have way more hormones involved in releasing fuel (fat-burning) than we do for storing fuel.

0:10 What are genetics and epigenetics?
1:05 Fasting and genetic changes
2:36 Fasting benefits

In this video, we’re going to talk about how fasting influences our genetics.

Your genes are your blueprints or your code for building proteins. These proteins are involved in all of the biochemistry in your body—from making hormones and neurotransmitters to releasing stored glucose for fuel.

You have millions upon millions of these proteins, but they have to be instructed on what to do.

When someone does fasting, many interesting things happen to your genetics. Fasting is one very important part of your epigenetics.

Epigenetics are things that influence your genes. Your genes are like a series of light switches—they can be turned on and turned off. Epigenetics has the ability to turn on and off each light switch.

As an example, fasting positively influences the gene CFHR1, which regulates your cholesterol. It also influences the SIRT-3 gene, which has anti-aging potential.

Fasting also down-regulates genes like the APP gene that helps lower amyloid plaque, which is seen in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Fasting may also play a role in other genes that influence cancer risks.

You can begin seeing the benefits of fasting after just a 16-hour fast. One meal a day (OMAD) will give even more benefits.

Fasting can help:
• Lower inflammation
• Support your immune system
• Lower syndrome X
• Support healthy brain cells
• Promote a healthy mood and mind

In this video, we’re going to talk about the amazing benefits of black elderberry.

Black elderberry is a powerful immune system support. It’s particularly good at helping you fight back against viruses.

Black elderberries have been around for ages. People have used them for:
• Reducing pain
• Lowering inflammation
• Decreasing swelling
• Increasing urination
• Reducing gas
• Lowering blood sugars
• Decreasing UV radiation damage
• Reducing uric acid

Today, it is primarily used to support your immune health. Studies show that it can even perform as well as many antiviral medications for the flu.

Black elderberry even has the power to increase a particular cytokine by 44%. In short, this means that it activates your immune system.

Now, keep in mind that you should never consume raw black elderberries. They contain small amounts of cyanide, which can cause some digestive problems. When it’s processed and made into a supplement, the cyanide is completely removed.

Black elderberry is high in a specific group of phytonutrients called anthocyanins (nothing to do with cyanide). This is a great natural remedy for viruses.

Check it out and let me know how it works for you.

Stop adding lemon to your hot tea. Here’s why.

Timestamps
0:00 Tea with lemon
0:10 The problem with adding lemon to hot tea
0:40 Pasteurized lemon juice
1:18 Benefit of lemon in cold tea

Today we’re going to talk about why you should never add lemon to hot tea. A lemon has about 23mg of vitamin C. But, the vitamin C in lemons is very sensitive to heat. It may be much better to let your tea cool down before adding lemon.

Keep in mind that the lemon juice in a container that you would buy from the store has likely been pasteurized. This means that it’s already been cooked, and there is not a lot of natural vitamin C in the product. If there is vitamin C added to the product after it’s been heated, it’s typically not the complete vitamin C complex.

If you preserve the vitamin C by having your lemon in a cold glass of tea, the vitamin C and citric acid can help you retain a certain phytonutrient, catechin, in the tea by 5x. This phytonutrient is responsible for a lot of health benefits.

Fat-to-Protein Ratio on Keto: Healthy vs. Gut Issues

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey. Call 1-540-299-1556 with your questions about Keto, Intermittent Fasting or the use of Dr. Berg products. Protein Ratio:

How much fat and protein should you have on keto? Let me break it down!

4:38 Gut issues? Try this!
6:47 Key takeaways
8:23 Need keto consulting?

In this video, we’re going to talk about your fat to protein ratio on keto. How much fat and protein is ideal on the healthy keto diet? Take a look.

Let’s start by breaking down your daily calorie intake into percentages:
– 70% fat
– 20% protein
– 5% low-glycemic carbohydrates (not including vegetables)
– 5% low-carb vegetables

I encourage people to get plenty of leafy green vegetables, so you get enough vitamins and minerals. You don’t have to count these towards your carbs each day.

When you consume fatty fish, beef, and eggs, the fat to protein ratio is roughly 1:1—not in calories, but in weight. In calories, it’s typically 2:1. So fats are about twice as many calories as proteins.

Protein has four calories per gram, while fat has nine calories per gram.

If you are trying to lose weight, you’re better off cutting out the extra fats in your diet. This doesn’t mean that you should consume low-fat foods such as lean beef. Instead, cut out the extras like MCT oil, butter in your morning coffee (bulletproof coffee), and keto bombs.

The leaner the protein, the higher the insulin response. This is why you should avoid whey protein and lean meats.

Age, physical activity, metabolism, and preexisting health issues are all variables that you have to take into account when you’re dieting. The right amount of fat for your diet on keto will primarily depend on these factors.

If you have gut issues, avoid nuts, coconut oil, seed oils, dairy, butter, avocado, and MCT oil. Instead, focus on animal fats. If you don’t have gut issues, these foods are in the clear.

By total weight, 400-600 grams a day is ideal for your protein intake.

Best Diet for Peripheral Neuropathy

What is the best diet for peripheral neuropathy? Find out.

Timestamps
0:00 What is peripheral neuropathy?
0:15 Most common cause of peripheral neuropathy

Today I’m going to share with you the best diet for peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition where you experience tingling, numbness, or burning-type pain in the bottoms of your feet or your fingertips.

The most common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes. High blood sugar can create a lot of inflammation, free radical damage, and destruction to the proteins on the inside of your arteries. This can lead to peripheral neuropathy.

However, it can be easy to get relief from this condition. You may want to start consuming a low-carb diet (the healthy keto diet). You also may want to make sure you have very low amounts of omega-6 oils, as well as do intermittent fasting.

Potential natural peripheral neuropathy remedies:
1. Benfotiamine (4 capsules spread out through the day)
2. Alpha-lipoic acid
3. Tocotrienols

Timestamps

0:28 What causes heat intolerance?
1:37 What to do for heat intolerance

Today we’re going to talk about what you can do if you have heat intolerance. Heat intolerance is a situation where you get overheated easily in warmer weather. You could either sweat excessively when you shouldn’t be sweating, or you may not sweat at all in hot weather. When your body is in warmer weather, you may also feel weak or dizzy.

Heat intolerance can be a symptom of:
1. MS (multiple sclerosis)
2. POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
3. Dysautonomia
4. Hyperthyroid conditions

All of the above conditions have a common thread. People with these conditions typically have low vitamin B1. Increasing vitamin B1 may help improve the symptoms of the above four conditions. You may want to take a good amount of vitamin B1 for these conditions. You would also want to find a natural B complex. Nutritional yeast is a good source of vitamin B1.

Vitamin D3 may also be beneficial. But, if you have POTS, you may not want to take more vitamin D. Something else to keep in mind is that the more carbohydrates you consume, the more vitamin B1 you need. Consuming more carbs may aggravate a vitamin B1 deficiency causing you to have more heat intolerance.

Did you know that taking the wrong type of vitamin B6 can cause a vitamin B6 deficiency? Vitamin B6 is a cofactor for over 100 different enzymes. It’s involved in many biochemical reactions, including controlling cortisol, making serotonin, and converting amino acids into glucose.

Getting enough vitamin B6 could potentially help prevent depression, stress, and anxiety. But, if you take the wrong kind, it could potentially give you depression, stress, and anxiety.

You may want to stay away from the form of vitamin B6 called pyridoxine. The type of vitamin B6 you may want to take is called pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P5P).

Vitamin B6 deficiency causes:
• Taking the wrong kind
• Alcohol
• High stress
• Inflammation
• Birth control pills
• Malabsorption problems
• Genetic alteration (polymorphism)
• Certain medications

In this video, we’re going to talk about how to sleep off your belly fat at night.

Wouldn’t it be nice to go to sleep and wake up with a flatter stomach? Well, there’s an incredibly important role that sleep plays in weight loss. Few people emphasize this vital point.

If you’ve watched my videos before, you know the standard things you need to do to lose weight. Lower your carbs (keto diet), do intermittent fasting, exercise, and lower your stress. If you’re doing all of these things and your weight plateaus, the next thing you have to focus on is sleep.

When you get less than five hours of sleep, you significantly increase your risk of obesity.

Take a look at these key points.

1. You burn the most body fat while sleeping

2. Sleep reduces stress, which improves cortisol levels

3. Sleep improves blood glucose levels

4. A lack of sleep increases weight gain, metabolic syndrome symptoms, insulin resistance, and appetite

You need 7-8 hours of high-quality sleep each night.

Here are some tips to help you get better sleep:
• Add plants
• Take calcium
• Get plenty of potassium and magnesium
• Get plenty of vitamin B1
• Consume more celery
• Lower your EMF exposure
• Exercise (especially long walks)
• Go to bed when you’re tired
• Stop watching the news

In this video, we’re going to talk about keto desserts and gut issues. Keep in mind that I never recommend snacks throughout the day. I’m primarily talking about keto desserts that you’re having right at the end of your meal.

If you have gut issues, you should not be having any keto desserts. The ingredients in keto desserts can add to the inflammation in your gut.

Let’s break down the ingredients you should avoid.

1. Sugar alcohols
– Erythritol
– Stevia
– Monk fruit
– Xylitol
– Maltitol
– IMO (Vita Fiber)

2. Flour alternatives
– Almond flour
– Coconut flour
– Chia seed flour
– Chickpea flour
– Hazelnut flour

3. Vegetable fats
– Coconut out
– Safflower oil
– Sunflower oil
– Corn oil
– Soy oil

4. Nuts and seeds (all of them)

If you have gut issues, it’s ideal to consume full-fat animal proteins—including fatty fish, beef, organ meats, and sausage. These will help keep inflammation down in the gut.

You want to have a 2:1 fat to protein ratio if you have gut issues. Primarily stick with animal fats and animal proteins.

Many people don’t know about the primary purpose of magnesium. Do you know what it is?

0:14 Calcium and magnesium
3:04 Hypercalcemia
4:32 Sources of magnesium

Magnesium is needed in a lot of different functions in the body, but its primary purpose is to act as a calcium antagonist. Calcium is very toxic in the body unless it’s in normal amounts. Taking 500mg or more of calcium per day could potentially increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Calcium is essential, but we need it in smaller amounts. Calcium doesn’t exit the body very easily. There are even many different disease processes out there that involve the accumulation of calcium. Magnesium is the key mineral to help prevent this.

Hypercalcemia is a condition where there is too much calcium in the blood.

Symptoms of hypercalcemia:
• Arrhythmias
• Abdominal pain
• Paralytic ileus
• Vomiting
• Excessive or reduced urination
• Psychosis
• Strong desire for sleep
• Constipation

Foods rich in magnesium:
• Pumpkin seeds
• Avocado
• Leafy greens
• Nuts
