7 Red Flags That You May Not Be Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep:

In this video, we’re going to talk about sleep. I want to share with you the red flags that you may be sleep-deprived.

Many people think they’re getting enough sleep, but really they’re either not getting enough sleep or they’re not getting quality sleep.

Here are some effects of not enough sleep or bad sleep quality:

1. Losing creativity
2. Losing focus
3. Losing sharpness in problem-solving and learning
4. Afternoon tiredness
5. Increased appetite
6. Anxiety
7. Depression

Poor sleep or lack of sleep may:

•  Increase your risk of diabetes. Lack of sleep really destroys your blood sugars. If you’re trying to get into ketosis, make sure you’re sleeping.

• Effect your immune system

• Increase cortisol

• Increase the risk of heart problems especially if you’re exercising

• Lower IQ

We need between 6.5 and 7.5 hours of sleep if it’s quality sleep. If it’s not quality sleep, you need more like 8 or 9 hours.

Bile Salts:

Today, we’re going to talk about the gallbladder. I want to explain exactly what a gallbladder attack is.

What is the gallbladder?
The gallbladder is a sack that hangs underneath your right rib cage.

What does the gallbladder do?
The purpose of the gallbladder is to store and concentrate bile salts. Bile salts act like detergents that help you break down fats, and extract essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. Another purpose of bile is to eliminate excess cholesterol.

Key points you should know about bile:

• A person’s bile production should be between 27-34 oz (400-800 ml) per day
• Bile should be a yellow, brown, or olive green color
• It takes 500 mg of cholesterol per day to make bile

What causes gallbladder attacks?

The liver makes the bile and comes down through small tubes to be stored in the gallbladder. Usually, with a gallbladder attack, a stone gets stuck in one of the small tubes. When the stone gets stuck, the pressure is going to cause a lot of pain.

What causes gallstones?

A gallstone is mostly made of cholesterol. But, you need a certain amount of cholesterol. If you go on a low-fat diet, your risk of gallstones actually goes up. A lack of bile is what forms these stones.

The 3 main causes of gallstones:

• High insulin
• High cortisol
• High estrogen

Gallbladder attack symptoms:

1. Stomach pain
2. Nauseous
3. Right shoulder pain
4. Pain under the right rib cage

In this video, we’re going to talk about sulfite sensitivities.

What is Sulfite?
Sulfite is used as a preservative. It helps increase shelf-life and decrease the growth of fungus and bacteria. However, it can give you a lot of reactions. One of the problems with sulfites is that unless you’re in America or Australia, they’re not going to be on labels.

Sulfite Sensitivity Symptoms:

• Hives
• Itching
• Headaches
• Stomach pain
• Trouble sleeping
• Flushing (redness in the face)
• Dizziness

Types of Sulfites:

• K Bisulphite
• K Metabisulphite
• Soda Bisulphite
• Sodium Sulphate

Foods High in Sulfite:

• Canned fruit and vegetables
• Dried fruit
• Vegetable juice
• Jam/Jelly
• Cereal
• Corn Starch
• Tomato paste
• Ketchup/Pickles
• Lime concentrate
• Vinegar
• Wine

If you’re on the ketogenic diet, you won’t really have to worry about most of these foods.

There is also a trace mineral called molybdenum that helps break down sulfites in the body. If you’re deficient in this, the sulfites will build up.

There are a lot of different foods high in quercetin, such as:

Today, we’re going to talk about the black plague and some interesting new findings.

The black plague is also called:

• Black death
• Great plague
• Bubonic plague

The interesting findings I want to talk about have to do with nutrition.

The history of the plague that you may have already heard is that it was caused in the Middle Ages by bacteria-infected fleas and spread by rats.

However, 25 skeletons of victims of the black plague were dug up in a London cemetery.

A few things that have been discovered from these bones are:

1. Bone showed signs of rickets (rickets is a severe vitamin D deficiency)
2. Signs of malnutrition
3. Signs of injuries

Vitamin D regulates the immune system. If you’re deficient in vitamin D, it’s going to make you highly susceptible to infections.

Every year, 7 people in the United States get the bubonic plague.

There seems to be a relation between severe infections and vitamin deficiencies—especially vitamin D, especially in the winter months.

To protect yourself against viruses, you need to get enough vitamin D. Supplements are really the best way to get vitamin D, especially in the winter months.

Overall, the black plague and the Spanish flu are perfect examples of how a nutritional deficiency could potentially set you up for a serious infection.

What is the healthiest country? — Japan.

• Japan has the most supercentenarians per capita in the world. A supercentenarian is someone who lived to be at least 110 years old.

• Okinawa has the highest number of centenarians in the world. A centenarian is someone who lived to be at least 100 years old.

What is Transdermal Magnesium?

Overview of Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

Fibromyalgia:

In this video, we’re going to talk about transdermal magnesium oil.

Many people take transdermal magnesium oil for:

• Joint pain
• Muscle aches
• Leg cramps
• Fibromyalgia

While transdermal magnesium oil is good for people who overtrain when working out, if these issues are ongoing, it would be beneficial to consider a deeper cause.

Fibromyalgia is almost always connected to the gallbladder.

The purpose of magnesium is to provide a mineral for over 400 enzymes that generate ATP, repair DNA and RNA, promote muscle relaxation and nerve conductivity, and help with the production of muscle protein.

You also need magnesium to make vitamin D work. Vitamin D is one of the main anti-inflammatory vitamins.

Symptoms of low magnesium:

• Loss of appetite
• Arrhythmia
• Fatigue
• Weak
• Tremors
• Muscle cramps
• High blood pressure

Foods rich in magnesium:

• Spinach
• Chard
• Leafy greens
• Pumpkin seeds
• Sunflower seeds
• Avocado
• Almonds

Are you not hungry on keto, but you’re still feeling weak? Well, this video is for you.

One of the best indicators to know if you’re in ketosis is the hunger goes away. But at the same time, you should not have low energy or fatigue on keto. If you’re feeling weak while on keto, it’s likely related to nutrient deficiencies.

How to fix low energy or feeling weak on the ketogenic diet:

Muscle weakness – Deficiency of vitamin E or sodium
Consume: Seeds, nuts, leafy greens, or a vitamin E complex supplement for a vitamin E deficiency. For low sodium, consume at least 1 tsp. of sea salt per day.

Brain Fog – Insulin resistance
Consume: MCT oil, and vitamin D

Fatigue – A vitamin B1, vitamin B5, or potassium deficiency
Consume: Nutritional yeast, potassium, and magnesium (electrolytes, and vegetables).

What if you’re not in ketosis, but you have no appetite? This could be due to a:

• Magnesium deficiency
• B12 deficiency
• Iron deficiency
• Vitamin D deficiency
• Infection

A simple test will let you know if you’re in ketosis, and you can base your actions on that.

If Pasta Is So Bad, Why Do The Italians Live So Long?

Have you ever wondered if pasta is bad, why do Italians live so long? Do Italians know the secret to longevity? In this video, I’m going to share with you why this is. You’re also going to see an interview I did with a woman from Sardinia. We’re going to talk about what exactly Sardinians eat.

In Liguria, Italians live longer than any other region in Europe.

In Sardinia, Italians are tied with Japan as living the longest.

Out of 1091 residents aged over 105 years old, 951 of them are female. This is because of estrogen. Estrogen can act as an antioxidant and will slow down the free radical exposure and damage to the DNA.

What’s so different about the pasta in Europe?

• There is no glyphosate.
• It’s not enriched with iron and synthetic vitamins.

A few more points about pasta:

• The type of wheat that’s used for pasta is durum wheat, which is higher in protein and digests very slowly.
• Pasta will not spike your blood sugars initially, but it will spike your blood sugars within a few hours.
• It has a glycemic index of 45-50 compared to bread which is 70

I am not recommending pasta. I’m just saying that the quality of pasta is better in Italy than in America.

The typical Italian diet in Sardinia:

• Meat – (pork)
• Fish
• Shellfish
• Vegetables (lots of artichokes)
• Olive oil
• Mirto (digestive)
• Not much sugar
• Not much pasta
• Some bread
• Some wine
• Some beer

She also believes a secret behind Sardinian’s longevity is the low-stress lifestyle and walking.

Egg Yolks: Orange or Yellow – Which is Better?

Orange versus yellow egg yolk—which is better? In this video, I explain why egg yolks can be different colors and what kind of eggs you should have.

When you crack open an egg and see that it has a dark orange egg yolk, it’s a sign that it’s an egg from a pasture-raised chicken. Organic, pasture-raised chickens eat natural grass and insects. This means you won’t be consuming GMOs.

Factory-farmed eggs are a pale yellow color. These chickens consume GMO grains, which I don’t recommend. Sometimes pasture-raised organic eggs can have a yellow egg yolk, but they won’t be pale.

Pasture-raised organic eggs have more carotenoids, which is a plant-based antioxidant that has a wide range of benefits. If you are developing vision problems as you age, you are especially going to want to consume pasture-raised eggs. Carotenoids can help you avoid macular degeneration.

Keep in mind that when you see the term “cage-free,” this doesn’t mean these are necessarily better eggs. They could still be held in a large barn with no sunlight, and they are often not non-GMO.

Why I Eat 4 to 5 Eggs a Day

In this video, I talk about why I eat four eggs every day. I consume at least four, if not five, eggs at my first meal between 1:00–3:00 pm.

There are three main reasons why I have this many eggs every day:

1. Eggs have the highest anabolic effect. What this means is that it turns into muscle protein or other useful protein and body tissue.

2. Eggs are very high in nutrients. They have practically every vitamin and mineral except vitamin C.

3. Eggs are loaded with healthy fats. They contain omega-3 fatty acids, including DHA and EPA.

Are eggs bad for cholesterol? If you’re afraid of eggs increasing your cholesterol, keep in mind that there’s no evidence to support the idea that eggs raise your bad cholesterol. They can raise your good cholesterol, which isn’t bad for your heart. I recommend that you always go with pasture-raised organic eggs.

Do You Eat When You Are Not Hungry?

Do you ever eat when you’re not hungry—even while you’re trying to lose weight? I have a rule that I teach in all of my books and programs. The rule is simple: don’t eat when you’re not hungry. In this video, I talk about three things that relate to this.

How to stop eating when you’re not hungry:

#1 Satisfied/not hungry – If you’re on a healthy keto diet and you’re doing intermittent fasting correctly, you are not going to feel hungry. If you are hungry and you frequently have cravings on keto, you aren’t doing something correctly.

Start with keeping your carbs lower and increase your fat. This will help you go much longer with your intermittent fasting. When you’re really in ketosis, your body will produce plenty of ketones, which are natural appetite suppressants.

#2 Environment – How well can you resist temptation? On a scale from 1 to 10—10 being very disciplined, and 1 being unable to resist a doughnut if it’s in arm’s length—how do you score? Write it down in the comments below; I want to know.

You may be easily tempted to start eating when you are not hungry because of smells, social pressure, and visuals. The best thing you can do is simply not put yourself into an environment or situation where you can be tempted to eat. Don’t bring junk into the house and cook at home, so unhealthy options at a restaurant do not tempt you.

#3 Past habits – Many people eat out of habit. Don’t do this. If you’re used to having a snack while you’re watching a movie or if you feel like you can’t waste any food on your plate, then you have to break these habits.

Refeeding After Your Prolonged Fast: IMPORTANT

In this video, I talk about refeeding after prolonged fasting. If you’re on a longer fast—I’m talking about 4-7+ days, not 2 days—there’s a rare situation that can occur called refeeding syndrome.

What happens is that your body experiences a shift of nutrients from the blood to the cells — this occurs when you have nutrient deficiencies already before you begin your fast.

Then, fasting makes the situation worse because you aren’t getting any nutrients. Keep in mind that if you have known vitamin deficiencies, you should not do prolonged fasting.

What I recommend is to have vitamin supplements, electrolytes, and sea salt during your fast to make up for deficiencies. This won’t break your fast.

How to refeed after prolonged fasting:

When you do break your fast with food, don’t have carbohydrates, sugars, and or any other non-keto-friendly foods. These can actually further deplete your nutrients and create a big problem. Instead, break your fast slowly with keto-friendly foods.

What Do Nail Polish Remover and Fat Burning Have In Common?

Have you been wondering why your breath smells like acetone on keto? Or, maybe your breath smells like nail polish remover while on keto. Well, in this video I’m going to explain why this happens and what to do about keto breath.

There are three types of ketones:

• Beta-hydroxybutyrate
• Acetoacetate
• Acetone

Acetone is the ketone that has the same chemistry as nail polish remover. If your body is making acetone from fat, it’s not toxic. However, if you consume acetone, it is very toxic. Consuming nail polish remover is not the same as going into ketosis.

Acetone comes out of your breath while you’re still adapting to running on ketones. This can give you acetone breath on keto until you become fully keto-adapted. If your breath smells fruity or like nail polish remover, it’s a sign that you’re in ketosis. The smell is just temporary.

Benefits of ketosis:

• Hunger goes down
• More weight loss
• Decreased inflammation
• Better blood sugar stabilization

If you want to speed up the transitional phase to get rid of acetone breath:

• Drop your carbs lower
• Fast longer
