In this video, we’re going to talk about how to reduce or minimize the side effects of chemotherapy.

There are three big problems with chemotherapy:

1. Chemotherapy does not differentiate between healthy cells and cancer cells. It destroys them both.

2. Chemotherapy has significant side effects that are sometimes worse than cancer.

3. Chemotherapy weakens the immune system, which could cause cancer to come back. It also lowers recovery.

Chemo side effects:

• Fatigue
• Hairloss
• Bruising
• Infection
• Anemia
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Diarrhea
• Reactivation of viruses
• Weight loss (loss of muscle)
• Mood changes

What you can do to minimize the chemo side effects if you choose chemotherapy as your cancer treatment:

1. Strategy – Staving cancer cells
• Lower carbs (Keto)
• Reducing glutamate (Intermittent fasting)

2. Decrease inflammation
• Take high amounts of vitamin D
• Do intermittent fasting

3. The most effective and most powerful chemoprotective polyphenol is EGCG
• Take green tea

4. Chlorophyll
• Take chlorophyll in the form of wheatgrass juice powder

5. Cruciferous vegetables

An alternative cancer therapy that would be good for you to research is called insulin potentiation therapy.

The Largest Source of Dietary Sugar Is Coming From….

What do you think is the largest source of sugar in our diets? In this video, that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about.

The largest source of sugar in the American diet is soda or soft drinks. An average American consumes 45 gallons of soda per year. This comes out to about 20 pounds of sugar.

The 2015-2020 dietary guidelines for Americans:

No more than 50g or 12 tsp. of added sugar per day (That adds up to so much sugar)

Most of this sugar is in the form of high fructose corn syrup or beet sugar, which are both very oxidizing and are GMO. About half of these two types of sugar is fructose, and the other half is glucose. The fructose is forced on the liver, which can lead to a fatty liver and insulin resistance.

The American Heart Association maximum added sugar guidelines:

For women – 6 tsp.
For men – 9 tsp.

Why Lemon Juice is Both Good and Bad for Arthritis?

Is lemon juice good for arthritis, or is lemon juice bad for arthritis? Well, it’s actually both. In this video, I want to explain why lemon juice is both good and bad for arthritis.

Gout arthritis – High levels of uric acid.

Gout symptoms get better when you make things alkaline. When you consume lemon juice and it’s metabolized, it turns into an alkaline substance. This makes lemon juice a good remedy for gout. But, the lemon juice remedy for gout is really just a quick fix. It will help you feel better, but you still need to work on the real cause of the issue.

Osteoarthritis – Calcium deposits within the joints.

Osteoarthritis symptoms get worse when things are more alkaline. When you alkalize the body, you can create a flare-up of osteoarthritis. With osteoarthritis, you need to acidify the body by taking apple cider vinegar.

As a side note, when doing intermittent fasting, your body will produce more uric acid. If you’re sensitive to uric acid, it may cause a flare-up of gout. In this case, you can take lemon juice or potassium citrate to alkalize the body.

Is Keto (Low Carb) Really Safe for the Thyroid?

Is keto safe for the thyroid, or will keto damage the thyroid? In this video, that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about.

What is the thyroid?
The thyroid is in the base of the neck, and it’s controlled by the pituitary. The thyroid makes T4, but T4 is inactive. T4 has to be converted to the active form, which is T3. 80% of the conversion happens through the liver, and 20 % happens through the kidney.

How does keto affect thyroid function? When you go on a ketogenic diet, T4 will decrease up to 40%.

But let’s look at the big picture.

There are no studies out there that show any negative effects on the thyroid when you go on a keto or low-carb diet. Also, despite the 40% drop, there is no drop in metabolism.

T3 is becoming more sensitive and more effective.

I believe that high carb diets increase the need for more thyroid hormone, so T3 is higher. With a keto diet, T3 goes down, but I think that’s not actually abnormal. I believe that number is normal for what our bodies are designed to use.

So, is keto safe for thyroid function? Yes. When you’re on the ketogenic diet, you’re actually improving the efficiency of the thyroid.

You ARE Eating When You Are Fasting

Many people think that when you’re fasting, you’re starving. But, you ARE actually eating. I’m going to explain more about why this is in this video.

When you’re fasting, your cells are eating their own fat. They’re not being fed from your diet, but they’re being fed from your storage.

The only time fasting is starving is if you go too long and you’ve used up all of your fat. If you have no more fat, at that point, the body will start using up its muscles. But that will take a very long time.

Fat gives us glycerol and fatty acids, which turn into ketones. About 60% of the fuel your body uses while fasting is fatty acids. As far as the brain is concerned, two-thirds of the fuel can be ketones, and one-third will be glucose.

The body does need a small amount of glucose. However, there is something in the body called gluconeogenesis, where the body can make glucose.

Where does the body get glucose from?

• Glycerol – 20g of glucose per day
• Ketones – 10g of glucose per day
• Recycled lactate – 40g of glucose per day
• Organs – 80g of glucose per day
• Alanine – 15g of glucose per day

Our bodies are very well designed for fasting and intermittent fasting. There are a ton of fasting benefits, and the body does will on this. But, the body does not do well on frequent meals and snacks.

How to Determine Your Recovery Level

Heart rate recovery test:

Adrenal Stress:

In this video, we’re going to talk about recovery and how you can determine your recovery level.

If you’re an athlete, there are a lot of different tests you can do to determine your recovery. But, if you don’t have access to tests like a heart rate recovery test, you can go by other factors.

You have the body recovery rate, and then you have the being recovery rate. In your mind, you may be someone who can handle intense exercise, but your body may be older and not able to handle it. This can result in serious injuries.

Body recovery has to do with your ability to repair. There are repair proteins or enzymes in the body that do the work of repairing damage at the DNA level. These repair proteins require nutrients, or they don’t work that well.

Your adrenal glands help you adapt to stress. If you have a lot of stress in your life, it builds up, and your adrenals won’t be able to function as well. One of the most important things to do for this is to get plenty of sleep.

How to measure recovery level:
• Heart rate – Test
• Sleep – You can’t sleep at night after a good workout
• Blood pressure – Your blood pressure goes way too high for many hours after you work out and it doesn’t rebound
• Mood or stress reaction – How long does it take you to bounce back from stress mentally

Action Steps — Hormesis (beneficial stress):

1. Intermittent fasting
2. Exercise
3. Cold
4. Heat
5. O2
6. Light/UV
7. Phytonutrients

Why You Can Not Kill a Virus

Today I want to answer the question, “why can’t we kill a virus?”

Are viruses alive?
No. You can’t kill a virus because viruses are not alive.

What is a virus?
A virus is a piece of genetic material wrapped in a sack that invades the body. They go into the cells and latch onto the machinery of the cells (usually the DNA), and they use our own body’s energy to replicate.

You can’t kill a virus, but you can put a virus in remission. When a virus is in remission it’s in a dormant state which is called a latent virus.

For example, if you’ve had a viral infection in the past, the virus is still in your body. It will stay dormant until you’re stressed, sick, tired, and nutritionally deficient, and then it comes out and is reactivated. But, this time, it may show up as something like type 1 herpes, EBV, HPV, CMV, or shingles.

3 important nutrients that help suppress viruses:

• Vitamin D (Decreases the risk of cervical cancer, influenza virus, and respiratory infections)

• Zinc (Decreases the frequency, duration, and severity of viruses especially with herpes and shingles)

• Selenium (If you’re deficient in selenium you get a lot more viral reactivation)

How Much of Your Disease and Health is Genetic?

Epigenetics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g12kIu9jrIk

In this video, we’re going to talk about genetics. How much of your disease is genetic, and how much of your health is genetic?

Are diseases genetic? People often think they simply have “bad genes.” But, that’s not true. Only 5-10% of disease is caused by a genetic defect that has been passed on by your parents.

Most gene mutations are not inherited; they’re somatic mutations. Somatic mutations mean it’s not inherited, but caused by your environment.

Epigenetics means above genetics. For example, think of DNA as a DVD and epigenetic as the DVD player. You can select what you want to activate and control. 90-95% of your health, and whether you get a disease is epigenetics.

Exposome is the accumulation of all the exposures of an individual in a lifetime and how those exposures relate to health. We’re talking about the exposure to your environment, which started when you were still in the womb. Everything adds up and can trigger certain genes, which leads to certain diseases.

With epigenetics we include:

• Environmental factors
• Stress
• Social experiences as a child
• Nutrition

Another huge factor is your mental state and how you view and deal with life.

Your genes have a lot less to do with your health than you might think, and you have the ability to control your genes way more than you think. You are not predestined to have certain genetic diseases or genetic disorders.

Today, I want to cover a really fascinating trace mineral called molybdenum.

What is molybdenum?
Molybdenum is a coenzyme for many chemical reactions in the body.

Foods high in molybdenum:

• Legumes
• Grains (not keto-friendly)
• Nuts
• Eggs
• Green beans
• Sunflower seeds

Sulfite oxidase – Converts sulfites into sulfur compounds. You need this enzyme to detox the liver, make glutathione, and to make certain compounds in your joints.

Aldehyde oxidase – Involved in getting rid of the candida die off. It’s also involved in breaking down drugs.

Xanthine oxidase – Turns certain proteins into uric acid.

Molybdenum is involved in detoxification, and without it, things can become toxic. If you have a problem with detoxification, molybdenum is the trace mineral you would want to take.

Why Do You Get Acne During Your Period (Menstruation)

Overview of Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

http://bit.ly/2DH0d6o

I recently received a question about menstruation and acne from someone on my live show. They were wondering why they get acne during their period. If you’ve been wondering this as well, this video is for you.

Every other month the ovaries take turns in ovulation. This month, it may be the left ovary, and acne may start to show up on the left side of your jawline. The next month it would be your right ovary, and you may see acne on the right side of your jawline.

What causes acne during menstruation? Well, let’s take a look at the whole month.

• On day 14 when you’re ovulating, you get the highest spike in estrogen.
• About a week later, you get the highest spike in progesterone.
• During menstruation, you have the lowest amount of estrogen and progesterone.

Why would you get acne when both estrogen and progesterone are low? Well, there is actually another hormone involved called testosterone.

Women have a certain amount of testosterone, but if there is too much, it can cause things like acne.

What’s happening is you’re getting too much testosterone for the amount of estrogen and progesterone that’s in the body. Testosterone enlarges the sebaceous gland, which can release more oil and bacteria, which then results in acne.

How to get rid of acne:

1. DIM (androgen antagonist)
2. Decrease cortisol (monitor your stress level)
3. Normalize insulin (ketogenic diet)

Today, we’re going to talk about nutritional yeast, and how to use nutritional yeast in your diet.

What is nutritional yeast?
Nutritional yeast is a type of yeast that is a microbe that is inactive. It’s different than bakers yeast, which is an active yeast. You need to be sure you’re consuming non-fortified nutritional yeast. My version is non-fortified and does not contain synthetic vitamins.

Health benefits of nutritional yeast:

• It has a complete amino acid profile
• It has minerals and trace minerals
• It has B vitamins
• It has glutathione
• It has selenomethionine

What does nutritional yeast taste like?
Nutritional yeast has a slightly cheesy and nutty flavor.

Nutritional yeast is different than yeast extract, which is used as a food additive, and flavoring and also contains glutamate.

Yeast extracts:
• Vegemite
• Marmite
• Tasty yeast

Nutritional yeast uses in your diet:

1. Broths
2. Sauces
3. Soups
4. Salads
5. Curries
6. Eggs
7. Veggies
8. Dips

Synthetic vs Natural Vitamin B12

This video is in response to a question relating to the difference between synthetic and natural vitamin B12.

The synthetic version of vitamin B12 is called cyanocobalamin. The natural version of vitamin B12 is called methylcobalamin.

The main reason why people get synthetic vitamin B12 is that it’s cheaper. In many cases, on the label of synthetic vitamin B12, it will say something like 5000%. But, more is not always better. The reason why it’s 5000% is that it takes so much of it to be absorbed.

Cyanocobalamin (synthetic vitamin B12):

• Is not easily absorbed
• Splits of into cyanide

Methylcobalamin (natural vitamin B12):

• Bonds to protein (needs stomach acid to break it down)
• You also need the intrinsic factor

* I recommend methylcobalamin (natural vitamin B12). Most animal products are also filled with vitamin B12.

You might have a problem absorbing vitamin B12 if you:

• Have low stomach acid
• Have atrophic gastritis (take Zypan)
• Had stomach surgery
• Take metformin
• Are a vegan (you can get B12 from wheatgrass juice powder)

Side effects of a vitamin B12 deficiency:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Upset stomach
• Rash
• Headaches
• Dizziness
• Joint pain
• Fatigue

B12 is involved in:

1. The production of red blood cells
2. Brain function/nerve function
3. The creation of DNA

MSG vs Glutamate: What’s the Difference?

Take Dr. Berg’s Free Keto Mini-Course: http://pxlme.me/-i717vtY or go here: http://bit.ly/2RmaFDS

Glutamate:

Download Keto Essentials
http://bit.ly/2DH0d6o

Today, we’re going to talk about MSG vs. glutamate.

What is glutamate?
Glutamate is an amino acid. Cancer can live on glutamate, but glutamate does not cause cancer. Almost every single food that you eat actually contains glutamate. Glutamate even makes up part of the body’s tissue.

What is MSG?
In 1909 there was a patent on MSG, and they call it accent, which is a flavor enhancer. It tricks your tastebuds and makes food taste better than it really is. It can also raise your insulin levels.

What is the difference between MSG (monosodium glutamate) and glutamate?
L-glutamic acid is the natural form of glutamate found in foods. D-glutamic acid is artificially made. D-glutamic acid is MSG. L-glutamic acid is not MSG, and it won’t create a reaction.

D-glutamic acid is:

• Unbound – free
• Artificially made
• Hydrolyzed
• Autolyzed
• Modified
• Spikes 8-10 times in blood

There are so many products that have MSG, but it’s not always required to be on the label of these products.

MSG side effects:

• Hives
• Rashes
• Irritability
• Forgetfulness – simple words
• Mood swings
• Achy joints
• Pain/headaches

Names and ingredients that could have MSG:

• Natural flavors
• Flavorings
• Vegetable broth
• Textured vegetable protein
• Maltodextrin
• Bouillon cubes
• Autolyzed yeast
• Protein isolates
• Smoke flavoring
• Gelatins
• Imitation soy sauce

The Danger of Excess Phosphorus

Today, I want to cover the dangers of excess phosphorus.

It’s very difficult to become deficient in phosphorus because it’s in so many different foods. Your body actually needs phosphorus too. But, too much phosphorus can be a bad thing.

Excess phosphorus in the body can mess with your kidneys. If you have end-stage kidney disease, too much phosphorus can even be very deadly.

1. Excess phosphorus can cause kidney damage

2. Excess phosphorus can cause heart damage

3. Excess phosphorus can lead to calcium in the arteries

4. Excess phosphorus can cause bone loss (fracture)

Where are people getting too much phosphorus?

1. Soda (especially dark-colored soda)
2. Junk foods

How Much Potassium is Lost with Sweating

Potassium:

http://bit.ly/2DH0d6o

In this video, we’re going to cover an important topic, especially if you’re an athlete. How much potassium and sodium do you need when you’re sweating?

You need about 4,700 mg of potassium every single day. If you’re exercising, you’re stressed, or you have inflammation, you may need up to 6,000 mg a day.

You need 2,300 mg of sodium per day, which equals out to about a level teaspoon per day. But that’s for someone who doesn’t exercise.

If you’re doing an intense workout outside when it’s hot, you could lose up to two pounds of sweat (.9 kg).

• You could lose 500-2000 mg of sodium per hour
• You could lose 150-500 mg of potassium per hour

Glycogen is stored glucose in your muscles and in your liver. When you exercise, you use up your glycogen. When you use up your glycogen, you’re also losing your potassium. This is one of the reasons why a long distance runner could get cramps, bloating, or fatigue. It’s because of the loss of potassium even more than the sodium.

Symptoms of low potassium:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Weak muscles
• Muscle spasm
• Increased heart rate
