In this video, I want to talk about what to do if you stalled when doing intermittent fasting. I get this question a lot from my viewers and guests on my live show, and I wanted to create this video to cover all of the basics.

Our bodies have been evolving for hundreds of thousands of years. Starvation has played a part in this process. Starvation is a risk to your survival. Humans have gone through a lot of periods of starvation. We’ve developed and adapted certain mechanisms to help us survive.

When you start fasting, signals are sent to the brain to let it know that food is scarce. Your hormones and cells then adapt and become more efficient.

During fasting, the body starts to tap into your fat stores.

For survival purposes, your body wants to stay fat so that it maintains energy to use during periods of starvation.

1 lb of fat is the equivalent of 3,500 calories. So just eat fewer calories and exercise more, right? Wrong! Traditional weight-loss tactics rarely work.

Your metabolism plays a massive role here. Hormones will slow down your metabolism if you eat less, which can cause you to gain weight.

Fasting helps you get rid of your glycogen reserve—which is stored glucose and water.

The key hormone that keeps your body at a stall is insulin. If you have high insulin, you cannot lose fat. If it’s low, you can lose fat.

Focus on lowering your insulin, and you will have a much easier time losing weight.

A simple way to tell if your insulin levels are high is if you have a very strong appetite. If your insulin levels are low, your cravings go away.

If you can’t go a few hours without getting hungry, you have high insulin and insulin resistance.

The following 8 things will help you keep your insulin low. I put them in order of effectiveness.

1. Fast longer (don’t eat unless you’re hungry)
2. Lower carbs (including hidden carbs)
3. Lower stress
4. Increase sleep (7-8 hours)
5. Decrease fat (75g)
6. Exercise
7. Avoid certain medications
8. Reduce insulin resistance

When you’re fasting, you want to eliminate all macronutrients (carbs, protein, and fat) but still have some micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, and amino acids).

Is bread or potato worse for your health? Watch this video to find out.

2:22 How bread and potatoes affect blood sugar levels
3:00 Which is worse?

In this video, we’re going to talk about bread and potatoes. Which of these is worse in your diet?

Let’s take a look at potatoes by evaluating where they’re at on the glycemic index. The glycemic index is used to measure how much a particular type of food affects your blood sugar levels. The higher on the index a food it, the worse it is for your blood sugar levels.

Potato
• Instant potato: 97 (close to pure glucose)
• Baked potato: 84
• Boiled potato: 82
• Raw potato: Very low

As you can see, over-processing or cooking potatoes makes them bad for you. You could eat as many raw potatoes, and you won’t have a problem. However, cooking them breaks down the starch and makes them extremely high on the glycemic index.

Even sweet potatoes are high on the glycemic index. They have 3x more sugar than regular potatoes.

Now let’s take a look at the glycemic index of bread.

Bread
• Whole wheat bread: 74
• White bread: 74

As you can see, whole wheat and white bread are both the same on the glycemic index. They are also lower than cooked potatoes.

However, bread often contains harmful substances, including:
• Bleach – this lowers your level of vitamin E
• Phytate – this reduces your zinc levels
• Gluten – this causes gut inflammation

Bread causes a delayed spike of insulin and blood sugar levels. It can often take 2-3 hours before you see a blood sugar spike. You get an instant spike of blood sugar levels with potatoes.

The average American consumes 53 lbs of bread every year.

The question is, which is worse: bread or potatoes? Well, they are both bad in their own way. Potatoes will cause more instant blood sugar issues, and bread will cause more inflammation and nutrient deficiencies.

At what blood sugar levels should you start to worry about serious damage to the body?

0:55 When the damage starts to occur

1:43 What you could do

In this short video, I want to cover at what blood sugar level does a person start to notice organ damage.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) says that your A1C should be below 7.4. This is a blood sugar level of 166, which is way too high. The damage from high blood sugar levels starts to occur when the levels reach over 100.

One study indicated that fasting blood glucose levels between 110 and 125 already created a loss of 40% of the beta cells of the pancreas. The beta cells are the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. The more beta cells that are destroyed, the less insulin you have, the higher the blood sugar goes, the higher the glucose toxicity, and the more damage you’re going to experience.

The ideal AlC is less than 5%. It’s important to keep in mind that things like fruit, starches, and whole grains all have a lot of sugar. The best things to do may be to cut out the refined carbohydrates and sugar, and start doing intermittent fasting. You may even be able to reverse the damage if you catch it in time.

In this video, we’re going to talk about the real cause of melancholy. Melancholy is sadness, depression, or generally feeling blue. It comes from a Greek word that means black bile.

During the medieval period, melancholy was one of the four temperaments—these have to do with different behaviors or characteristics.

If you look at the characteristics of melancholy, you also get three additional symptoms—bloating, dissension, and constipation.

These all have a direct connection with the gallbladder.

Research shows that if you have gallstones, your risk of depression increases by 80%. The removal of your gallbladder can reduce your risk of depression by 20%. And a low-fat diet can increase your risk of depression. Why?

Fat triggers the release of bile. Gallstones come from a lack of bile. Gallstones can also decrease or block the flow of bile, which is why having your gallbladder removed can increase your bile and decrease your risk of depression.

What do all of these indicators point to? A lack of bile. But what’s the connection between bile and your mood?

If you have low bile, you aren’t going to absorb vitamin D. A vitamin D deficiency can create serious depression.

A lack of bile will also cause poor absorption of DHA, which is an omega-3 fats acid. Low DHA significantly increases your risk of depression and suicide.

Taking purified bile salts can help improve your bile and decrease the feeling of melancholy.

You Cannot Make Vitamin D Without Cholesterol

If you think that cholesterol is the bad guy, you need to watch this video.

0:00 Is cholesterol bad?

0:20 Sources of vitamin D
1:20 Vitamin D deficiency
1:33 Why you need cholesterol
4:15 Bad cholesterol

Today we’re going to talk about cholesterol and vitamin D. Did you know that you actually need cholesterol to make vitamin D? The majority of the world is deficient in vitamin D, so it’s important to know more about vitamin D and where it comes from.

It’s almost impossible to get enough vitamin D from your diet. There are only a few foods that have vitamin D.

Foods with vitamin D:
• Fatty fish (like salmon and sardines)
• Egg yolk
• Milk products
• Mushrooms (pre-vitamin D)

Sun exposure is the best way to get vitamin D. Cholesterol is a necessary part of how the body gets vitamin D from the sun.

Vitamin D deficiency symptoms:
• Inflammation
• High blood pressure
• A poor immune system
• Back pain
• A higher risk for autoimmune disease, asthma, and more.

Your body makes cholesterol every day—your liver makes it, and other cells make it as well.

You need cholesterol for many important things, including:
1. To make vitamin D
2. To make bile salts
3. As a precursor for sex hormones
4. Your cell membranes need cholesterol

Cholesterol is tightly regulated by a negative feedback loop. If you eat more cholesterol, your body makes less. If you eat less cholesterol, your body makes more. You don’t want to do a low-fat diet. If you do, you could potentially have less cholesterol, which could cause you to make less bile, vitamin D, sex hormones, and cell membranes.

Don’t fear cholesterol. But, understand that sugar and refined carbs will turn into the bad form of cholesterol that can create damage in the arteries. It’s not the dietary cholesterol or fat that’s the problem. It’s the sugar and refined carbohydrates.

2:05 Causes of kidney damage

In this video, we’re going to talk about the 7 early signs of kidney disease.

There are five stages of kidney dysfunction, ranging from mild to severe. At stage 4 and five, there are many dietary restrictions to prevent further damage, including potassium and phosphorus.

Interestingly, potassium has a protective effect on the kidney. However, in later stages of kidney dysfunction or kidney disease, your kidney can no longer process it.

1. Metallic taste or ammonia breath

2. Protein aversion (dislike of protein—especially meat)

3. Nausea/vomiting

4. Difficulty concentrating

5. Itchiness

6. Loss of appetite

7. Swollen face, hands, or feet

If you have any sort of kidney dysfunction, you always want to check the glomerular filtration rate. This is a measurement of how well the kidney filtering.

One of the most common causes of kidney damage is diabetes and prediabetes. Years of chronic consumption of carbohydrates can cause kidney destruction.

If your glucose level rises too much, you can develop glucose toxicity. This causes damage to the kidney’s filtration system.

If you have kidney dysfunction, the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting can help.

The herb astragalus has been shown to decrease creatine, which improves the filtration rate of the kidneys.
