Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

What is the best diet for peripheral neuropathy? Find out.

Today I’m going to share with you the best diet for peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition where you experience tingling, numbness, or burning-type pain in the bottoms of your feet or your fingertips.

The most common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes. High blood sugar can create a lot of inflammation, free radical damage, and destruction to the proteins on the inside of your arteries. This can lead to peripheral neuropathy.

However, it can be easy to get relief from this condition. You may want to start consuming a low-carb diet (the healthy keto diet). You also may want to make sure you have very low amounts of omega-6 oils, as well as do intermittent fasting.

Potential natural peripheral neuropathy remedies:
1. Benfotiamine (4 capsules spread out through the day)
2. Alpha-lipoic acid
3. Tocotrienols

Today we’re going to talk about what you can do if you have heat intolerance. Heat intolerance is a situation where you get overheated easily in warmer weather. You could either sweat excessively when you shouldn’t be sweating, or you may not sweat at all in hot weather. When your body is in warmer weather, you may also feel weak or dizzy.

Heat intolerance can be a symptom of:
1. MS (multiple sclerosis)
2. POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
3. Dysautonomia
4. Hyperthyroid conditions

All of the above conditions have a common thread. People with these conditions typically have low vitamin B1. Increasing vitamin B1 may help improve the symptoms of the above four conditions. You may want to take a good amount of vitamin B1 for these conditions. You would also want to find a natural B complex. Nutritional yeast is a good source of vitamin B1.

Vitamin D3 may also be beneficial. But, if you have POTS, you may not want to take more vitamin D. Something else to keep in mind is that the more carbohydrates you consume, the more vitamin B1 you need. Consuming more carbs may aggravate a vitamin B1 deficiency causing you to have more heat intolerance.

Did you know that taking the wrong type of vitamin B6 can cause a vitamin B6 deficiency? Vitamin B6 is a cofactor for over 100 different enzymes. It’s involved in many biochemical reactions, including controlling cortisol, making serotonin, and converting amino acids into glucose.

Getting enough vitamin B6 could potentially help prevent depression, stress, and anxiety. But, if you take the wrong kind, it could potentially give you depression, stress, and anxiety.

You may want to stay away from the form of vitamin B6 called pyridoxine. The type of vitamin B6 you may want to take is called pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P5P).

Vitamin B6 deficiency causes:
• Taking the wrong kind
• Alcohol
• High stress
• Inflammation
• Birth control pills
• Malabsorption problems
• Genetic alteration (polymorphism)
• Certain medications

In this video, we’re going to talk about how to sleep off your belly fat at night.

Wouldn’t it be nice to go to sleep and wake up with a flatter stomach? Well, there’s an incredibly important role that sleep plays in weight loss. Few people emphasize this vital point.

If you’ve watched my videos before, you know the standard things you need to do to lose weight. Lower your carbs (keto diet), do intermittent fasting, exercise, and lower your stress. If you’re doing all of these things and your weight plateaus, the next thing you have to focus on is sleep.

When you get less than five hours of sleep, you significantly increase your risk of obesity.

Take a look at these key points.

1. You burn the most body fat while sleeping

2. Sleep reduces stress, which improves cortisol levels

3. Sleep improves blood glucose levels

4. A lack of sleep increases weight gain, metabolic syndrome symptoms, insulin resistance, and appetite

You need 7-8 hours of high-quality sleep each night.

Here are some tips to help you get better sleep:
• Add plants
• Take calcium
• Get plenty of potassium and magnesium
• Get plenty of vitamin B1
• Consume more celery
• Lower your EMF exposure
• Exercise (especially long walks)
• Go to bed when you’re tired
• Stop watching the news

5:15 Need keto consulting?

In this video, we’re going to talk about keto desserts and gut issues. Keep in mind that I never recommend snacks throughout the day. I’m primarily talking about keto desserts that you’re having right at the end of your meal.

If you have gut issues, you should not be having any keto desserts. The ingredients in keto desserts can add to the inflammation in your gut.

Let’s break down the ingredients you should avoid.

1. Sugar alcohols
– Erythritol
– Stevia
– Monk fruit
– Xylitol
– Maltitol
– IMO (Vita Fiber)

2. Flour alternatives
– Almond flour
– Coconut flour
– Chia seed flour
– Chickpea flour
– Hazelnut flour

3. Vegetable fats
– Coconut out
– Safflower oil
– Sunflower oil
– Corn oil
– Soy oil

4. Nuts and seeds (all of them)

If you have gut issues, it’s ideal to consume full-fat animal proteins—including fatty fish, beef, organ meats, and sausage. These will help keep inflammation down in the gut.

You want to have a 2:1 fat to protein ratio if you have gut issues. Primarily stick with animal fats and animal proteins.

Magnesium is needed in a lot of different functions in the body, but its primary purpose is to act as a calcium antagonist. Calcium is very toxic in the body unless it’s in normal amounts. Taking 500mg or more of calcium per day could potentially increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Calcium is essential, but we need it in smaller amounts. Calcium doesn’t exit the body very easily. There are even many different disease processes out there that involve the accumulation of calcium. Magnesium is the key mineral to help prevent this.

Hypercalcemia is a condition where there is too much calcium in the blood.

Symptoms of hypercalcemia:
• Arrhythmias
• Abdominal pain
• Paralytic ileus
• Vomiting
• Excessive or reduced urination
• Psychosis
• Strong desire for sleep
• Constipation

Foods rich in magnesium:
• Pumpkin seeds
• Avocado
• Leafy greens
• Nuts

Tired While Doing Intermittent Fasting?

Talk to a Dr. Berg Keto Consultant today and get the help you need on your journey. Call 1-540-299-1556 with your questions about Keto, Intermittent Fasting or the use of Dr. Berg products. Are you feeling tired while fasting? Try these tips.

0:10 Keto adaptation
1:12 Low potassium and magnesium

In this video, we’re going to talk about why you might be feeling tired while doing intermittent fasting and how to increase your energy levels.

When you go from a high-carb diet to a low-carb diet, there’s going to be a stage of keto-adaptation. This is where your body is switching from using glucose as your primary fuel source to using ketones as your preferred fuel source.

During this time, you can experience keto fatigue. You’re going to be tired until your body fully adapts.

The problem is, many people start adding in more carbs because they think it will help with the adaptation process. This only makes keto-adaptation more difficult. If you cut out the carbs, adaptation won’t drag out and leave you feeling tired and fatigued for so long. It can take up to a week for adaptation.

Another cause of keto fatigue is not having enough minerals—particularly electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium.

Lastly, you may feel keto fatigue if you’re low on vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 is vital to energy levels. Fat does not contain vitamin B1, so you may have to replenish it on keto.

If you’re having a lot of coffee and tea on keto, you may have even lower B1 levels because they tend to deplete vitamin B1.

Wine can make you more fatigued because alcohol and sulfites can deplete vitamin B1.

If all of you’re only eating cooked foods, you may have low nutrients levels as well. Get plenty of raw vegetables. Keep in mind that raw fish can also deplete vitamin B1, so stay away from that.

Medications for type 2 diabetes may also be the cause of fatigue. Talk with your doctor about fatigue if you’re using any medications.

If you are low on vitamin B1, nutritional yeast is a fantastic natural source.

4:09 The glycemic load and insulin index

In this video, we’re going to talk about the huge problem with the glycemic index.

The glycemic index covers a wide range of foods on a scale that rates their ability to raise your blood glucose. A type of food food that is less than 55 on the glycemic index is considered low. Between 56 and 69 is considered medium, and 70-100 is considered high.

You wouldn’t believe the foods that are considered low on the glycemic index:
• Twix candy bars
• Pizza hut supreme pie
• Betty Crocker chocolate cake
• 100% stone-ground wheat bread

There are five problems with the glycemic index that I want to highlight.

1. It’s not based on real-world serving size consumption.

2. People never eat just one type of food.

3. Combining protein or fat with sugar creates advanced glycation end products, which are harmful to your body.

4. Low GI fructose is worse than glucose.

5. It ignores the glycemic load and insulin index.

Check out my other videos on the glycemic load and insulin index.

I believe vitamin D is the most important vitamin for asthma. Here’s why.

0:00 Vitamin D for asthma

1:13 The immune system
2:32 Traditional asthma treatment
2:55 Natural asthma remedy

Today we’re going to talk about vitamin D and asthma. Typically, someone who is asthmatic has a vitamin D deficiency.

Symptoms of asthma may include:
• Wheezing
• Shortness of breath
• Chest tightness
• Cough

It could actually be the vitamin D deficiency that causes:
• Changes in the thickness where the gas exchange occurs in the lung
• Changes in the mass volume of the lung itself
• Changes in the composition
• Changes in the smooth muscle

There are a lot of structural things that are being altered when you have asthma, mainly because of inflammation. At the lining of the lung tissue where it’s exposed to air, you have complex immune protection.

With asthma, there are two areas in the immune system where things aren’t working that well. One is with the T helper cell, and the other is with the T regulatory cell. Both of these are involved in the coordination of immune reactions and regulating inflammation to make sure there’s not too much inflammation. When there is a dysfunction of these cells, you can get inflammation.

Now, not only do we not get the gas exchange, but there is also hypersensitivity to various triggers. There is an overreaction in the immune system, and inflammation is easily triggered. With asthma, there is a problem with the immune system, the lung, and cortisol.

Vitamin D may start to turn around and remodel the lungs in a positive way. It can potentially slow down and stop inflammation and fibrosis. Vitamin D can also allow cortisol to work better in the lungs. It can even act very similar to cortisol. Vitamin D is a very powerful anti-inflammatory. You may want to consider taking at least 20,000 IUs of vitamin D3 to potentially see a difference in the way you breathe, as well as reduced asthma symptoms.

In this video, we’re going to talk about the absolute worst way to convince people to do keto.

When you show someone the research and amazing results of keto, and they still don’t give it a chance, it feels hopeless. Why aren’t they willing to give it a try? Well, it’s often because they do not perceive that they have a problem to begin with. In their mind, they’re healthy!

You cannot invalidate them by telling them that they have a problem—this just doesn’t work.

I can only help people if they can perceive that they have a problem. You can gently push them in the right direction slowly over time.

Another reason why people do not try keto is that they don’t have a weight problem. Weight isn’t the only issue. Health is the primary focus of keto.

Find out if the person has a problem that they want to solve first. Then, you can introduce keto.

Never explain the diet. Instead, explain why it works.

The absolute best way to do this is to send them my videos and books. This gives them an opportunity to discover the keto diet on their own.

5:10 Need keto consulting?

In this video, we’re going to talk about diabetes and inflammation. In my last live show, I discovered that many people still have some confusion about inflammation, insulin resistance, and obesity. I’m going to clear up these concerns in this video.

There are many different chain reactions that happen in the body when you’re dealing with diabetes and weight gain. It’s sort of a chicken or the egg situation: does diabetes cause obesity and inflammation, or does obesity and inflammation cause diabetes?

Inflammation does contribute to insulin resistance. Then, insulin resistance causes diabetes—which can cause weight gain. The more fat in your body, the more inflammation you’re going to have. This is a cyclical situation.

Keep in mind that inflammation, in general, does not cause fat directly. However, it can worsen type 2 diabetes and hinder your ability to lose weight.

The primary cause of inflammation is glucose—too many carbohydrates. Secondary causes may include too much iron, too much omega-6, alcohol, cortisol resistance, and infection.

Glucose is the primary driver of fat, too—it triggers insulin, which is an energy storage hormone that prevents fat burning.

In my live show, I asked the question, “what is the primary way to get into ketosis?” Not everyone said decreased carbs. Some people said taking ketones. This won’t cause you to lose weight.

The two things you need to do to get into ketosis are to drop your carbs and decrease the frequency of your eating.

The keto diet and intermittent fasting are powerful weight loss tools. If you want faster weight loss, you can then focus on lowering inflammation by avoiding alcohol, fixing infections, lowering omega-6s, and fixing cortisol resistance (lowering your stress), and avoiding iron supplements.

Today we’re going to cover the first symptom of a fatty liver. The first symptom of a fatty liver is malaise. Malaise is a general discomfort or uneasiness. You feel like you’re coming down with something. Malaise isn’t specific to a part of the body. It’s kind of an all-over feeling that’s very vague. You may feel a little bit of weakness.

Your immune system has been activated. There are cytokines that are activating the immune system at a certain level. Not enough for an infection, but just enough to make you feel like you’re coming down with something. The second symptom of a fatty liver can be right shoulder pain. If your gut sticks out to where you can’t see your feet when you look down, you may have a fatty liver.

A few other causes of malaise:
• Infection
• Low blood sugar
• Caffeine withdrawal
• Flu

Isn’t Our Body Supposed to Run on Sugar?

Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

Is the body really supposed to run on glucose? Here’s what you need to know.

Timestamps
0:00 Is the body meant to run on glucose?
0:45 What is the purpose of fat?
1:22 Certain parts of the body can only run on glucose
2:18 Ketosis

Today I want to cover some important information on whether or not the body is supposed to run on glucose. It’s true that certain parts of the body can only run on glucose. But, the greater portion of your body can also run on ketones and fatty acids.

I believe the fat you have is fuel storage to help you survive between meals. Our bodies only have roughly about 1700 calories of stored sugar. But, a thin person has about 100,000 calories of stored fat. Our bodies were meant to run on fat more than glucose.

But, it’s true that certain parts of the body can only run on glucose, such as:
1. The red blood cells
2. The liver
3. 30% of your brain
4. Certain parts of the kidney
5. The lens of the eye

The key is that there is something called gluconeogenesis, which is where your body actually makes glucose from non-carbohydrate sources like fat and ketones. If your body needs glucose, it can make it from ketones. You don’t actually need any glucose from your diet. Being in a state of ketosis can have amazing benefits for the body.

The hippocampus is a structure in the brain, and if it’s damaged, this can lead to dementia and Alzheimer’s. The hippocampus may actually thrive and improve on ketones and worsen when fed glucose. Both the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex thrive on ketones.

Noom Weight Loss: Dr. Berg’s Opinion

Thinking of trying Noom? Here’s my opinion.

Timestamps
0:00 What is Noom?
0:47 Where Noom goes wrong
3:46 Why keto and intermittent fasting work
4:34 Amazing keto and intermittent fasting results

In this video, we’re going to talk about my opinion of Noom. Noom is a weight loss app.

On Noom’s website, they describe themselves as an anti-diet habit and behavior program. No food is off-limits. Noom primarily focuses on calories, which promotes the idea that if you eat fewer calories, you will lose weight.

The goal is to get you to track your calories with the hopes that you will become more aware of what you’re eating and how many calories you’re getting each day.

Eating less junk food and fewer calories will definitely be a factor in weight loss. However, there are a few big problems with Noom. Take a look.

1. The first time, it may work. However, it’ll start to work less and less over time.

2. Low-calorie diets slow your metabolism!

3. Dieting like this is not compatible with a long-term healthy lifestyle.

4. Noom assumes all calories are treated the same by the body (they aren’t!).

5. Aging slows your metabolism further—Noom doesn’t account for this.

6. They allow snacking, which causes insulin resistance and weight gain

The ketogenic diet is a far better way to lose weight. You don’t feel hungry, you don’t have to count your calories, and you burn fat fast. Check out my channel to learn more about keto and intermittent fasting.

Find out why you may want to use probiotics with liver disease. Check this out.

Timestamps
0:00 Probiotics and liver disease

2:11 Probiotic sources

Today we’re going to talk about why you may want to use probiotics if you have a liver problem. This could include problems like a fatty liver, a liver that has inflammation, or cirrhosis. If your belly sticks out, you may have a fatty liver.

Probiotics can help prevent bacterial translocation. When there’s liver damage, the bacteria in your colon have the ability to migrate beyond the colon and into the lymphatic system. Once the bacteria get into the lymphatic system, you can have immune reactions, and you can trigger cytokines. This can cause inflammation, increase endotoxins, and increase TNF alpha.

Probiotics can also help reduce ammonia. One of the side effects of advanced liver problems is an excessive amount of ammonia in the blood.

Probiotics may significantly reduce symptoms associated with liver disease. Probiotics may also help slow down fibrosis and reduce ammonia.

How to get probiotics:
• Take a good probiotic supplement
• Consume kombucha
• Consume sauerkraut
• Consume kimchi
• Consume kefir (plain and unsweetened)

Today we’re going to talk about why a person might have a high pulse rate when starting the ketogenic diet. When you do keto, you’re lowering your carbohydrates. But, going on keto doesn’t necessarily require you to increase other nutrients.

However, there is a version of the keto diet called “healthy keto.” This means that you’re doing a low-carb diet, but you’re also making sure that you’re eating foods that include all of the nutrients your body requires.

One of the interesting things that happen when you go low-carb is that you’re no longer holding on to a lot of your stored glycogen. This especially occurs when you do fasting. Glycogen is very hydrated with water.

When you store fat, you’re not storing fluid. When you get on the keto diet, you’re dumping a lot of fluid. Now, you’re also going to lose potassium and magnesium—your electrolytes. Unless you’re putting these electrolytes back into the diet, you could end up with a higher pulse rate.

This is because magnesium and potassium help keep the pulse rate lower and regulated. This is also why when someone starts to consume more refined carbs, their pulse rate goes up. It takes potassium to store the carbohydrates as glycogen. Both a high-carb diet and a low-carb diet without enough nutrients could cause a potassium deficiency.

To help with this situation, you could start consuming more vegetables or take potassium as a supplement. Low vitamin B1 (thiamine) could also cause a high pulse rate. If you still have a high pulse rate after having more potassium, you may also want to add vitamin B1 or nutritional yeast.
