1:18 How sulforaphane works
2:00 The best way to consume broccoli sprouts

In this video, I talk about why you should add broccoli sprouts to your diet. I recommend having them a couple times a week. Here’s why:

Broccoli sprouts have more sulforaphane than any other food on the planet.

Sulforaphane is one of the most studied phytonutrients. It has many health benefits. Most of all, it inhibits breast and prostate cancer and tumors.

Sulforaphane is actually a defense mechanism of plants. If a bug or microbe begins to eat the plant, the sulforaphane can kill it.

In the human body, it can actually detoxify carcinogens, which are things that cause cancer. It’s also a powerful antioxidant, which may help decrease your risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disease, and autism.

Some people do have a sensitivity to plant foods that have high levels of sulforaphane—so if you notice adverse effects, don’t continue eating broccoli sprouts. However, most of the population won’t have a problem with them.

One drawback is that broccoli sprouts can deplete your iodine. However, you can take some sea kelp to counter this effect.

I recommend that you consume broccoli sprouts raw—they have 10 times the amount of sulforaphane raw.

2:38 Lots of exercise
2:50 Acute Intermittent hypoxia
3:45 Whole vitamin C

In this video, I talk about what to do after a stroke. Now, it’s vital to do these things to help restore brain function and prevent more damage.

When you have a stroke, it causes something called hypoxia. This is a situation where you have low oxygen in the brain and damaged brain tissue. The brain needs a lot of oxygen. Although the brain only makes up 2% of body tissue, it uses 20% of your oxygen.

What you need to do is focus on increasing oxygen in the brain. To restore oxygen to the brain after a stroke, do these 7 things:

1. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy – This forces pure oxygen into the body. I recommend doing this right away.

2. Ketones – A keto diet and intermittent fasting will increase ketones and give your brain more oxygen.

3. DHA – This is an Omega-3 fatty acid that can help improve a damaged brain.

4. Vitamin D – This powerful vitamin can help a damaged brain.

5. Lots of exercise – Excercise helps flood the body and brain with oxygen.

6. Acute Intermittent hypoxia – This creates a hormetic effect that can stimulate certain genes to increase the growth of brain tissue.

7. Whole vitamin C – The whole complex of vitamin C can help strengthen blood vessels and prevent future strokes.

Dear Eric,
This journal presents data before peer-review. The journal is good, however, because it accepts comments from scientists before the paper is published. The article was removed from the internet after we posted the comments below. It appears that none of the authors were familiar with the details cancer energy metabolism. They will need to reevaluate their data and experimental design.
Regards,
Tom

Comment on Sperry et al., “Metabolism of fatty acids and ketone bodies for glioblastoma growth: Implications for Ketogenic Diet Therapy” (doi: https://ift.tt/2S4b5Tj).

Sperry et al., have provided another interesting study showing how a ketogenic diet fails to manage glioblastoma growth in the U87-MG xenograft mouse model. The results are consistent with the previous findings of Dang et al (PLoS One. 2015 Jul 20;10(7):e0133633, doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0133633), and Kalaany and Sabatini (Nature. 2009 Apr 9;458(7239):725-31. doi:10.1038/nature07782.) showing that neither caloric restriction nor ketogenic diet have any therapeutic effects on brain tumor growth when the tumors are grown in the brains of Non-Obese Diabetic/Severely Compromised Immuno Deficiency mice (NOD/SCID). It is important to mention that NOD/SCID mice not only have a compromised innate and/or adaptive immune system but also express characteristics of both Type-1 and Type-2 diabetes (Chaparro et al, PNAS, 2006; DOI:10.1073/pnas.0604317103). These findings are inconsistent with other studies showing that caloric restriction and restricted ketogenic diets can reduce U87-MG growth when the tumors are grown in mice that do not have characteristics of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes (DOI 10.1007/s11060-013-1154-y; DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-04-0308; doi:10.1186/1743-7075-4-5). Although Sperry et al were careful in their in vitro experiments to maintain normal glucose physiology, they chose a mouse host for their in vivo studies that has no relevance to either normal human or mouse physiology. It remains unclear whether glucose and ketone levels would be linked to tumor growth in this mouse host. The sensitivity of some tumors to metabolic therapy is dependent on host energy metabolism and microenvironment, which are abnormal in NOD/SCID mice. Hence, their conclusions that ketogenic diet fails to manage glioblastoma growth must be viewed with caution.

Comment on Sperry et al., “Metabolism of fatty acids and ketone bodies for glioblastoma growth: Implications for Ketogenic Diet Therapy” (doi: https://ift.tt/2S4b5Tj).
In their recent study, Sperry et al conclude that the U87-MG model of glioblastoma can utilize fatty acids and ketone bodies for growth. However, their data presented in Figures 1C & 1D argue against this conclusion. It is clear that neither supplementation with fatty acids (Fig. 1C) nor B-OHB (Fig. 1D) could replace glucose as a fuel for maintaining U87 proliferation under lower glucose conditions. If fatty acids and B-OHB could be utilized for growth, then FA & B-OHB supplementation should be able to replace glucose for U87 growth under low glucose conditions. Their data do not show this.

It is also important to mention that human GBM express abnormalities in mitochondrial number, structure, and function all of which will compromise energy production through OxPhos (DOI: 10.1177/1759091418818261). These abnormalities will force the tumor cell to rely more heavily on fermentation then on OxPhos for growth. Neither fatty acids nor ketone bodies are fermentable fuels and cannot replace either glucose or glutamine, which are fermentable through substrate level phosphorylation in the cytoplasm and mitochondria, respectively (DOI: 10.1177/1759091418818261). The data presented in Figures 1C and 1D support this view in showing that neither fatty acids nor B-OHB could replace glucose for maintaining U87 growth rate. Hence, their data do not support their main conclusion that U87 can utilize fatty acids and ketone bodies for growth.

There’s a new study out there that shows that eating eggs will clog your arteries and lead to premature death. So now, I need to delete all of my videos on eggs—joking!

This study is complete BS.

The people who endorse this study either…
A) Never read it
B) Don’t understand it
C) Hope no one reads it and calls them on their BS
Here are three things you should know about this study:

1. Who funded it? Multiple pharmaceutical companies and other related businesses who profit from the results. In fact, pharmaceutical companies gave some of the authors money.

2. Observational, not clinical. The authors used a food frequency questionnaire, which is self-reported. This was not a clinical study, and they didn’t use randomized controls. Meaning, the data is very unreliable.

3. Only looked at eggs and not cholesterol. All other variables were ignored. They didn’t ask if the person made good lifestyle and diet choices.

3:48 What to do

In this video, we’re going to talk about when NOT to take bile salts.

Most people need bile salts. Usually, they’re not producing enough.

What are bile salts?
Bile salts are made by the liver and are stored in the gallbladder. When the gallbladder stores the bile salts, it concentrates them. Bile is a super-concentrated mixture to help break down fats so you can extract fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids from your food.

We make about a quart of bile every day, and 90% of the bile is recycled. There are many benefits of bile. It is also necessary to help a person detoxify chemicals. You can take purified bile salts to help digest fats and prevent gallstones.

When not to take bile salts:

1. If you have diarrhea
2. If you have a hyperthyroid condition
3. If you have bile malabsorption

What to do if you’re body is making too much bile, or you have too much bile:

• Lower the amount of fats in your diet to about 60g per day (not any lower)

In this video, I want to talk about apple cider vinegar and the three situations where you would not want to take apple cider vinegar or any type of acidifiers.

Most people benefit greatly from taking apple cider vinegar. This is because many people don’t have the normal stomach acid they need in the stomach to digest.

When not to take apple cider vinegar:

1. If you have an ulcer
Natural remedies for ulcers:
• Zinc carnosine (50mg 3 times a day for a month, then reduce it with a blend of trace minerals)
• Chlorophyll (wheatgrass juice powder mixed with water, drink on an empty stomach)
• Healthy keto and intermittent fasting

2. If you have gastritis
Natural remedies for gastritis:
• DGL licorice
• Probiotics (unless you have SIBO)
• Zinc carnosine
• Marshmallow root

3. If you have Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Today we’re going to talk about good and bad LDL cholesterol.

People are typically taught that LDL is the bad cholesterol. But that’s not actually true. LDL actually stands for low density lipoprotein. It’s not cholesterol. It’s a type of protein that carries cholesterol through the body from the liver to the tissues. HDL takes the cholesterol from the tissues and brings it back to the liver.

The two types of LDL:

sdLDL-P
• This is type B.
• This is the bad type.
• The LDL is a smaller dense type.
• It can invade the arteries deep into the tissues and create problems.
• It has oxidized cholesterol that can increase your risk of heart attack by 4x.
• This is the type you normally see with a diabetic because it comes from a high carb diet.
• It also comes from high amounts of fructose. Fructose can create more of this than glucose.

ibLDL-P
• This is type A.
• This is the good type.
• The LDL is a large buoyant type.
• This is the type you normally see with a keto diet because it’s a high-fat diet.
• When you do ketosis and intermittent fasting, you’re releasing fat and cholesterol from the fat cells. You need these LDL carriers to transport the cholesterol to different places.

The other thing to look at is the triglycerides. You want your triglycerides to be low, and you’ll usually see them low if you’re doing keto and intermittent fasting. You will also want your HDL higher. If you’re on keto, you might see that you’re ibLDL-P is high, but your sdLDL-P is normal or on the low side.
