Many people think that when you’re fasting, you’re starving. But, you ARE actually eating. I’m going to explain more about why this is in this video.
When you’re fasting, your cells are eating their own fat. They’re not being fed from your diet, but they’re being fed from your storage.
The only time fasting is starving is if you go too long and you’ve used up all of your fat. If you have no more fat, at that point, the body will start using up its muscles. But that will take a very long time.
Fat gives us glycerol and fatty acids, which turn into ketones. About 60% of the fuel your body uses while fasting is fatty acids. As far as the brain is concerned, two-thirds of the fuel can be ketones, and one-third will be glucose.
The body does need a small amount of glucose. However, there is something in the body called gluconeogenesis, where the body can make glucose.
Where does the body get glucose from?
• Glycerol – 20g of glucose per day
• Ketones – 10g of glucose per day
• Recycled lactate – 40g of glucose per day
• Organs – 80g of glucose per day
• Alanine – 15g of glucose per day
Our bodies are very well designed for fasting and intermittent fasting. There are a ton of fasting benefits, and the body does will on this. But, the body does not do well on frequent meals and snacks.

In this video, we’re going to talk about recovery and how you can determine your recovery level.
If you’re an athlete, there are a lot of different tests you can do to determine your recovery. But, if you don’t have access to tests like a heart rate recovery test, you can go by other factors.
You have the body recovery rate, and then you have the being recovery rate. In your mind, you may be someone who can handle intense exercise, but your body may be older and not able to handle it. This can result in serious injuries.
Body recovery has to do with your ability to repair. There are repair proteins or enzymes in the body that do the work of repairing damage at the DNA level. These repair proteins require nutrients, or they don’t work that well.
Your adrenal glands help you adapt to stress. If you have a lot of stress in your life, it builds up, and your adrenals won’t be able to function as well. One of the most important things to do for this is to get plenty of sleep.
How to measure recovery level:
• Heart rate – Test
• Sleep – You can’t sleep at night after a good workout
• Blood pressure – Your blood pressure goes way too high for many hours after you work out and it doesn’t rebound
• Mood or stress reaction – How long does it take you to bounce back from stress mentally

Today I want to answer the question, “why can’t we kill a virus?”
Are viruses alive?
No. You can’t kill a virus because viruses are not alive.
What is a virus?
A virus is a piece of genetic material wrapped in a sack that invades the body. They go into the cells and latch onto the machinery of the cells (usually the DNA), and they use our own body’s energy to replicate.
You can’t kill a virus, but you can put a virus in remission. When a virus is in remission it’s in a dormant state which is called a latent virus.
For example, if you’ve had a viral infection in the past, the virus is still in your body. It will stay dormant until you’re stressed, sick, tired, and nutritionally deficient, and then it comes out and is reactivated. But, this time, it may show up as something like type 1 herpes, EBV, HPV, CMV, or shingles.
3 important nutrients that help suppress viruses:
• Vitamin D (Decreases the risk of cervical cancer, influenza virus, and respiratory infections)
• Zinc (Decreases the frequency, duration, and severity of viruses especially with herpes and shingles)

In this video, we’re going to talk about genetics. How much of your disease is genetic, and how much of your health is genetic?
Are diseases genetic? People often think they simply have “bad genes.” But, that’s not true. Only 5-10% of disease is caused by a genetic defect that has been passed on by your parents.
Most gene mutations are not inherited; they’re somatic mutations. Somatic mutations mean it’s not inherited, but caused by your environment.
Epigenetics means above genetics. For example, think of DNA as a DVD and epigenetic as the DVD player. You can select what you want to activate and control. 90-95% of your health, and whether you get a disease is epigenetics.
Exposome is the accumulation of all the exposures of an individual in a lifetime and how those exposures relate to health. We’re talking about the exposure to your environment, which started when you were still in the womb. Everything adds up and can trigger certain genes, which leads to certain diseases.
With epigenetics we include:
• Environmental factors
• Stress
• Social experiences as a child
• Nutrition
Another huge factor is your mental state and how you view and deal with life.
Your genes have a lot less to do with your health than you might think, and you have the ability to control your genes way more than you think. You are not predestined to have certain genetic diseases or genetic disorders.

Today, I want to cover a really fascinating trace mineral called molybdenum.
What is molybdenum?
Molybdenum is a coenzyme for many chemical reactions in the body.
Foods high in molybdenum:
• Legumes
• Grains (not keto-friendly)

I recently received a question about menstruation and acne from someone on my live show. They were wondering why they get acne during their period. If you’ve been wondering this as well, this video is for you.
Every other month the ovaries take turns in ovulation. This month, it may be the left ovary, and acne may start to show up on the left side of your jawline. The next month it would be your right ovary, and you may see acne on the right side of your jawline.
What causes acne during menstruation? Well, let’s take a look at the whole month.
• On day 14 when you’re ovulating, you get the highest spike in estrogen.
• About a week later, you get the highest spike in progesterone.
• During menstruation, you have the lowest amount of estrogen and progesterone.
Why would you get acne when both estrogen and progesterone are low? Well, there is actually another hormone involved called testosterone.
Women have a certain amount of testosterone, but if there is too much, it can cause things like acne.
What’s happening is you’re getting too much testosterone for the amount of estrogen and progesterone that’s in the body. Testosterone enlarges the sebaceous gland, which can release more oil and bacteria, which then results in acne.
How to get rid of acne:
1. DIM (androgen antagonist)
2. Decrease cortisol (monitor your stress level)
3. Normalize insulin (ketogenic diet)
